This is by far the most amazing fish and chips I’ve ever had. Stellar. Ok, let’s back up. Leo Burdock’s is the most well known joint in Dublin, perhaps Ireland, for fish and chips. Celebrities from all over the world have made this a food stop, from Anthony Bourdain to Ray Charles. The place itself is nothing special — a counter, a few tables and chairs. But the fish and chips… I salivate just thinking about it. The fish — cod, perfectly battered and fried. The chips — Fresh, also fried well and crispy. There really isn’t much else to say. Price was about 10 euros. I can’t believe it took my third trip to Dublin before I ate here. Go!

Life changing fish and chips. Coming from New York we asked around for the best fish and chips and this was the spot that most people mentioned. Ambience is nothing special. They had plan fish or smoked fish. We tried one of each and the smoked fish was the hands down winner. Both were incredibly flavorful but the smoked fish was delectable beyond belief. Travelled around Ireland after and sampled other fish and chips, but alas, they all paled in comparison. This place is truly the place to go.

Great fish and chips shop. I don’t love how they leave the skin on, but that’s a personal thing. The plate is big enough to share. As with everything else here, sauce is extra. Garlic just tastes like ranch. Skippable.

This is THE place for fish and chips in Dublin, or so we were told. And like the Irish say, it’s grand. It’s not going to blow you away, but there’s a decent amount of options and they seem to do what they do very well. I have had the fresh cod and the lemon sole, and I preferred the latter. Wife always gets the fish bites, she loves the extra crisp from having smaller bits. It’s a hole in the wall kinda place, but if you want to sit down the Temple Bar location has quite a few tables. I guess the one thing that disappointed me was the whole atmosphere. When I was told it was the oldest fish and chips place in Dublin I imaged something old — a bit like the old part of the Gravedigger’s next to Dublin Cemetery. But it’s actually just a new-ish place with early 90’s décor, kinda geared towards being touristy. That said, the Hall of Fame with every celebrity that ate there is pretty cool!

It’s Fish & Chips people! That’s all they do, and they do it right. Super crispy and delicious, no gross frozen fish fingers here. 10 euros gets you a great portion, a huge filet or some smaller bites. Yes the tartar sauce is in packets, but that’s just the kind of place it is, it’s still good. The staff are very friendly and there’s seating in the back. I definitely wouldn’t go anywhere else if I were craving fish & chips! Convenient location in Temple Bar makes it perfect for bringing anyone visiting the city, it’s definitely part of the Dublin experience.

I popped into this fish and chips shop in Temple Bar boasting«best fish and chips» Complete disappointment. Fish was good size but bland and really oily. Chips were soggy and also very oily. My plate was just a sea of oil. When asking for ketchup and tartar was given a weird look and then reluctantly handed two squeeze packets. I didn’t even bother with lemon. Malt on tables was old and flavorless. For a fish and chip shop couldn’t they at least make their own tartar? Very disappointing. € 11.75 for fish & chips including a soda

This restaurant has an unfairly low rating currently. The service was quick and everything was tasty. I can highly recommend the garlic sauce for the extra 1.75. There are bathrooms upstairs also. You won’t typically find that in a Fish & Chips place, especially in such a tourist-trap bar area.

Just like the previous reviewer, I too am slightly confused by the low ratings here. Oh no wait I’m not!, one reviewer seemed to give one star because he had to order at the counter in a chip shop before taking his seat! and then got mightily insulted when someone called him«Pal»! It’s Dublin mate, it’s an expression. Just like when I say«Mate», again an expression! And unlike he says the food is not the same in Supermacs!, if you are looking for an authentic fish and chips, Supermacs doesn’t even come into the debate. Listen, if you ask someone in Dublin city centre for a recommendation for fish and chips 9 times out of 10 they are going to direct you to a Burdocks outlet. Here you will enjoy a very decent meal of your choosing. Will it be the best fish and chips you’ve ever had, well you can debate that over your meal! It’s not the best I’ve had either in Ireland or elsewhere but it’s very decent and Burdock’s is a famous Dublin establishment. As for this particular location, it’s not my favourite. I personally prefer the one in Christchurch where you can take your food away and eat it in the open air, in the pleasant surroundings of Christchurch or St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The Burdock’s in Temple bar however does offer you the option of a seating area which is a plus. As for the cleanliness, for a chip shop in Temple Bar it was perfectly fine. I know other reviewers have complained about this, so I don’t know, maybe things have improved since. But when I walked in every table with people not seated at had been cleared and wiped clean. While I was there, as soon as people left, tables were cleared and cleaned instantly. If only other establishments were as quick at doing this. There was also a good general standard of cleanliness in the dining area and bathrooms. The staff here were very friendly, witty and chatty, and hey this type of «banter» may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s what you get in a traditional Dublin fish n’ chip shop!

For a restaurant that presumably serves the same thing over and over, and given that we were one of two groups of people inside, the food took quite a bit longer than we expected. The fish was quite good and generously sized. I wish I had asked for tartar sauce instead of curry sauce, but it was very good nonetheless. The chips were not fantastic, with a harder inside and a thinner outer fried layer than I like. If you’re into that kind of chip, though, try the place: it’s actually a fairly good deal.

I had a great experience here. The service was fast, the prices reasonable and most importantly a delicious cod and chips. Fried perfectly, the fish was great, the portions appropriate and a heap of chips. I will be back.

Confused by the low ratings here. Leo Burdock may not be the BEST fish and chips I’ve ever had — spots in the UK definitely get that nod — but in Ireland, these were pretty dang good. I asked several locals and Irish friends where the place to get fish and chips was in Dublin, as that was something that surely needed to be checked off my bucket list. Leo Burdock was the consensus, so here I went. Ordering is easy, and the food comes out fairly quickly. It is hot, of course the chips are delicious, and the fish is great without tasting overly fishy. The garlic sauce is wonderful — get more than one cup. You’ll want it. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone wanting an authentic Dublin fish and chips experience. We came at an off time, I can imagine ordering and finding a place to sit during a meal rush could be a bit chaotic, but we had no trouble on our visit.

Not a bad stop for fish and chips. At about 11 Euro, my portion was massive! Both the fish and chips were fried perfectly, although I wasn’t expecting the smoky flavor from the fish. I found the counter staff to be very friendly and they brought my food out to me within 5 minutes. I agree with other reviewers that the place could definitely use a scrub. While I didn’t think it was filthy, it could certainly stand to be cleaner. If you don’t want this location, there are other(cleaner) locations a short walk away.

My friend told me this was THE place to go for fish and chips. At least, that’s what she heard. I’m not sure where she heard this from or why, because it seemed like pretty standard fast food fare in the fish and chips market. Not horrible, by any means, but not anything I’d say is a must-see in Dublin. This is also the first time I really had to salt my food. And I mean, SALT. MY. FOOD. Just saying.

I love Leo Burdock Fish & Chips and I do think it’s one of the best spots to pick up these traditional eats. However, this location in particular is not as appealing as the others. It’s in Temple Bar, on an alley, and off the beaten path a bit which is cool. And, there’s a dining area so that’s a plus. But it could use a bit of deep cleaning. And as for the service, I had to interupt a conversation between the staff and a ‘passerby’ just so I could place my order which was a bit odd. As for the eats, well, as usual they don’t disappoint. One order of fish and chips is enough for two peeps to share! And, boy are they tasty! I really love the smoked fish and chips! If you can get past the less than appealing dining space, then eat in, or just take them to go. But, if you stay, check out the old photographs /celebrity hall of fame as you head up to the restrooms. They are worth checking out and there are lots of familiar faces! I give this spot 3.5 stars! And, if they give the establishment a good scrubbing, I’ll raise it up a star :) Regardless, the fish and chips are consistently tasty! Keep the malt vinegar flowing!
