I lived beside this place when I was a student 30 odd years ago. I was too scared to go in, what with Sherrif street across the road and all that.
I plucked up courage recently and went with two others to check it out. Stepping inside was a revelation. Well sort of. Its not changed in decades; maybe not even 10 of them. That stained wood and those bar partitions have seen generations of local workers and friends going to their local for a quiet night out. Though on our night it was mainly men on their own lining the bar in convivial solitude. The two women who accompanied me doubled the female count.
The beer choice was fairly standard but the Guinness was up with the best. The gin and tonics were consumed with relish.
We three all enjoyed it and it is firmly on my list of nearby favourites.
If you want a genuine old time local inner city pub which is professionally staffed and full of friendly punters, this is the place to go.

This Pub is hidden away near the railway bridge on Amiens st and the drink is very cheap, Cider was € 4.60 a pint and at lunch time this pub gives out a free small bowl of soup and bread, yes that’s right free soup!

Bar staff are old school and very friendly, the locals are def characters too.
