Hilton Dublin Kilmainham

Not impressed for being a Hilton.
Lobby is clean and cool.
Hallways are muggy. We were here with a tour group. Multiple rooms had inop AC units. Windows that don’t open. Very uncomfortable to sleep. Finally got a pedestal fan which helped but still stuffy and warm. Restaurant food was better than expected. We left after the 2^nd night and went to the Crowne Plaza.

Really nice hotel. Helpful staff, nice food and cool spa area. I was with a group on a student trip so it was handy for to the Kilmainham Gaol.

We had the pleasure of staying at this fine Hotel near the Kilmainham Gaol. It’s a fantastic location within walking distance to the Modern Art Museum, and the Kilmainham Gaol. There’s a pub across the street and bus stops along the way. The very courteous staff will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. We were in Ireland for 2 weeks and our favorite place to stay is and always will be the Hilton at Kilmainham. To whomever is the supervisor of the front office staff on the morning/​early afternoon of August 22, 2015, give them ladies a raise! The Wetenkamp family thank you immensely. You gals were great!

We reserved a room for 3 people. when we arrived and could not get our luggage into the small room. We were told that they only have one size room at this Hilton. We are still here but only one of us can moved around at a time unless we put someone in the bathroom. It is really unbelievable that they treat people like this. I hope it isn’t a reflection of the Dublin people.

We arrived at the hotel early and I had paid for early check-​in, but of course the rooms were not ready. We went to the breakfast and it was pretty decent. Drank a few cups of coffee and went for a walk. When we returned one of the rooms was ready. We dropped our backpacks and went on the double decker bus that has a stop in front of the jail right down the street. So that was very convenient. When we returned the other room was ready and was told that since I was a Hilton Honors Gold member our room had been upgraded. Upon entering the room we noticed it was a handicapped room. By no means did I request that nor did we need it. My son took a shower and since it is a handicapped room there is no place to put your clothes except for the floor, which became one giant wet floor from the shower. His clothes were soaked. I went back to the front desk and asked if that was an upgraded room, she replied yes it is you have a view from that room. I replied the only thing I could see out of that room was a bunch of construction and the road not the jail. She said yeah that’s the upgrade you get the view. I laughed and then asked to be moved to a regular non-​handicapped room. She did and put us in a normal room. After that the rest of the trip was uneventful. Used the double decker bus a lot and walked a whole lot! But overall a good time in Dublin!

Dublin is such a great city. It’s a vibrant place with a great pub scene, a magnificent music scene and history at every turn. The Hilton Dublin Kilmainham is ideally located to give travelers the best of all of these options. Although the hotel is outside of the main «city» of Dublin, it is really closely located to some great historic sites.
The hotel is clean and modern. Although a Hilton property, the hotel is actually quite small and very manageable with a nice bar/​restaurant in the lobby and a big fitness club in the basement. The hotel was undergoing a few maintenance projects during my stay and this was hardly noticed — a great sign. I stayed in a 5^th floor room with a balcony. The room was clean, with modern furniture and well maintained linens.
I found the location and general construct of the hotel to provide good sound-​buffering. I also found that I barely noticed my fellow guests in the rooms in proximity.
What sold me on the Hilton Dublin Kilmainham was the location just across the road from the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Ask for a room with a balcony. The view is awesome and makes the morning and evening sun a delightful compliment to your vacation or stay in the beautiful city of Dublin. In addition, ask for a 4^th or 5^th floor room to get fully buffeted from street noise.

Really nice. I’d spent two weeks wandering through Ireland, staying in assorted pubs and B&B’s and it was nice, at the end, to come back to a good hotel. I stay at a lot of Hiltons (for work), and find that I don’t have much to review – for the price and the name, these should be GOOD hotels. It was true here– attractive public spaces, nicely sized room, comfortable bed, good linens, hot and powerful shower, helpful staff, etc. All good, all made me very happy.
A couple of notes: just FYI. This Hilton is across the street from the Dublin Gaol, on the west side, a fair bit (2 miles) away from most, but not all of the tourist sites. A solid cab ride away, usually. Parking, if you have a car, is $ 20 euro/​day.
There’s a gym in the basement, which I didn’t use. but which also has a fun pool/​hot tub complex. Not your standard hotel pool, more of a Roman Bath sort of idea, but we liked it.
The breakfast buffet was a combination of full Irish/​American/​European options. There’s probably something for everyone there, if you looked. The quality was good, but as is usual for a breakfast buffet, not stellar.

As a person who lives on the road, I understand people, places, and things (expectations). But I also understand I am special (not like Corky)
I knowingly and understood the type of hotel room I reserved. That being said, when I pay for the Hilton, I always get the cheapest room but I also know that being gold (you have to stay 50 nights a YEAR in a Hilton to be gold., most people dont spend 5 nights a year in a hotel) you will get upgraded. So, the first time I travel abroad in years, I reserved 2 twins (solo) thinking there is no way I will actually have to sleep on them. I’m also 6’4, if I thought there was any way i would sleep on a kids bed, I would have reserved the «luxury» double bed. Its like going to a restaurant you go to all the time without a reservation and knowing you will never sit next to the bathroom.
So, when I check in Hans told me they were sold out and couldn’t upgrade me. Yes, I have heard that before, but I am Jason Gray and I am a Gold and I always get upgraded. Ohm dee ohm dee ohm dee, Hans apologized but couldnt help me. Ok, I am not travelling for the hotel room but I didnt expect the attitude. Then to pour salt into my wound, I got the 1^st floor like the local help and people who dont know better to ask for a better room. So i thought I would drink the pain away…
Being a decent hotel they have a bar. But their system is AFU so they cant run my card so I need to pay as I go. Part of a staying in a place with a hotel bar is like an all inclusive resort: you order, sign a slip and go on your way. I dont want to have to deal with money, cards, etc. i am on vacation. You deal with it… i want to drink and talk to hairy Romanian chicks.
Back to the room, who needs 2 twins? Luci and Desi Ricardo? George and Gracie Burns (if you dont understand the reference, its because its apropos (and you need to watch Nick at Night for the classics), NO ONE SLEEPS ON A TWIN if they are over 12; even 2 people who arent having sex and have to sleep together. They would rather both sleep with spanx on in the same bed then have to sleep on a twin. Its not like when I was in a Tokyo hotel room that was smaller than officers quarters on a Naval ship. This room is actually spacious, enough for a king, even 2 queens, ok, i will give you 2 doubles.
BUT, after all of this, I am still borderline OK with the room even though its on the first floor, over looking a preschool with children on the playground. Thats going to mess up my porn watching… sorry I digress…
Anyways, I went pub hopping and then I come back to check emails before bed (I might have had a few of the local brew called Guinness and the liquor named Jameson, so I am primed for bed). So I sit up to get on the laptop, watch TV, and get ready for the evening. I pushed both beds together like it was 1966 and I was expecting to have my quarterly nookie with my wife… So when i sat up, the bed started sliding. THE BED HAS WHEELS. Before I knew it, the bed slid across the room, my feet were above the TV, like the crazy people on Lil Jon’s video (turn down for what) and I started cussing like a tourettes stricken sailor.
Recipe for success; treat your loyal guests right, dont give attitudes, fix your credit card machine, get rid of twin beds, especially the ones with wheels.
Never staying here again oh by the way. The 2^nd star is that the place is very clean, modern and because its not ALL bad, It only takes one oh crap to wipe away all the atta boys…

This is my favourite hotel in Dublin. I try to stay here when I’m up. The biggest thing is to get a good price. Around the € 80 is good.
I stayed in the Hilton mid January 2014 it a very nice hotel with clean spacious rooms.
The restaurant is very tasty they have great steaks but pricey.
The bar doesn’t have much of and atmosphere most of the time but they do a nice pint.
There is a good local pub just across the road if your looking for a bit more life.
The breakfast is quite tasty but again pricy.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The breakfast was good and I enjoying trying some traditional Irish foods. Don’t be afraid to try the black pudding. The room was very nice, clean, and modern. The staff was helpful, even when I had an issue with my corporate card while trying to pay. As with most hotel restaurant the food is a bit overpriced but still good. The only issue I had with the room was figuring out how to not make a mess while using the shower. It may be a European thing that I am not familiar with but the glass door only covering half of the tub made for a mess of water on the floor each time I showered. I would consider staying there again next time I am in Dublin.

I only ate here, but had a couple of lunches both seated inside and out. If the weather holds, definitely sit outside! Service is adequate if a bit slow, and food is good enough but overall, unexceptional.

The Kilmainham Hilton is a good choice for those who want to be close to the action but not in the midst of tourists and traffic. If you live in a big city and are used to walking or public transportation, you can get around from the hotel with little or no problem. The hotel is near multiple tourist sites with the Museum of Modern Art and the Kilmainham Gaol (jail) museum being across the street.
My wife and I stayed here for a week and the staff was friendly and helpful at all times. The hotel and our room was clean. Our room was fairly spacious– especially for being a European hotel room, which tend to be smaller than American hotel rooms. The rooms have two outlets for American style 120v appliances. If you need another outlet, adapters are available for 5 Euro on the first floor in the vending machine. The buffet breakfast is ok but the baguettes served fresh every morning were our favorite. No store or many vending choices here. There is only one vending machine on the aforementioned first floor. The restaurant food is good, a little pricey, but choices are slim. Room service only serves a handful of items between 11pm-​7am, but you can order room service 24 hours a day.
All in all, this was a good hotel and we had a good experience. I would definitely stay here again.

So the Hilton in Kilmainham is right next-​door to me, so in theory it should be my new local… but its not…
Went on a Friday evening, was dying for a beer, and too lazy to cook, so took a jaunt down to check it out.
Unfortunately it had pretty much zero atmosphere. Was looking to go for dinner as well so went to the restaurant but got stopped by waitress saying, just to let you know there are only two customers in the restaurant so would you like to order from the bar menu perhaps?
Two customers? eek. Like walking into a really posh shop and getting pounced on by a bored, under-​worked assistant — no thanks!
So ordered from bar menu — pretty basic, burger and chips. Was okay, nothing to write home about to be honest.
Staff were friendly enough in fairness, but cant see myself going back, unless its just for a quiet beer.

Our room on the 3^rd floor appeared spacious compared to other European rooms & was modernly attired. Coming from the airport, the taxi cost 40E but luckily we could add that to the Hilton bill since this taxi doesn’t take credit card. On our return back, they have a contract with another taxi co for 25E. Conveniently located near the famous jail (a definite must-​see) & art museum (who doesn’t love free art access), we can walk everywhere we wanted to go so that helps alot. The $ is weak so mind your tourist dollars!

Oh l’arnaque ! «A dix minutes du centre historique», qu’ils disaient ! Eh ben non: c’est face à la prison historique de Kilmainham, d’accord, mais je né vois pas comment rallier le centre historique en dix minutes ! En bus, c’est plutôt 20, en tram, 30 en comptant les dix minutes de marche, et je n’imagine pas la voiture !
Bön, c’était un package tout inclus, c’était tellement compétitif que j’ai pas trop regardé… J’aurais dû !
L’hôtel lui-​même né casse pas des briques, le service est assez nettement en dessous de ce qu’on attend normalement de cette catégorie-​là. Et le coin est franchement glauque la nuit, et n’offre réellement pas de quoi se faire une petite balade à la fraîche. Non: on est contraint de rallier l’arrêt des bus 19, 51 et 78, à deux pas, et de se laisser emmener vers le centre. Tant pis.

It’s finally happened –someone has discovered the secret of time travel at Hilton Kilmainham.
Our once-​a-​month splurge of breakkie by Hilton ended with a bill straight out of 2003, with the cost of their breakfast buffet now coming in at € 18.75 per person. That’s an increase of more than € 6, pitching this meal way outside of our budget from now on.
On the off-​chance that the management actually hasn’t collected enough plutonium to fuel their Delorean for a trip back to an era when charging almost € 20 for a buffet of unexpectedly poor (read: petrol station-​quality) meats and treacly coffee was acceptable, I think we might have a problem.
When ringing up the shocking new cost of € 37.50, HImself and I asked Doc Brown — err, the waitress –why the costs had changed.
«We’ve added new items to the menu, price had to reflect that.»
The new items tallied to a jug of room-​temp cranberry juice, a platter of fish, a plate of single-​serve blocks of cheese, and potato farls in the toast department. I considered asking how new the cut-​cost sausages, hockey puck puddings and sour coffee were, and if those savings were included in the bill…
*sigh*
Looks like it’s time to go back… to beans and toast at home.

Stayed here for Valentines day last year. Was on a special offer price of half price, so got two nights for £100 including breakfast. The breakfast was outstanding, the best I have ever had in a hotel.
It is right on the main tourist bus route, and therefore easily accessible for all of the main tourist sites.
Difficult to find at night as our flight arrived quite late and we took the airport shuttle bus. Ended up getting a taxi in the end, but may be easier to find in the day.
Rooms of usual Hilton standard, huge bed, nice bathroom and clean and tidy. No complaints, would stay here again.
