Rudeness personified. The guy in the shop evidently came off a call that didn’t please him because when I asked for help he was short, rude and snippy to me. When I pointed that fact out to him he just ignored me. I was in to buy some bulbs and a desk lamp but I decided I could get those elsewhere. Won’t be going back there again.

«New year, new lights», as the old adage goes… So having put the last few touches to the house on the very long finger, it was time to go get some lighting to replace the rather industrial/primitive/ugly lighting we inherited and replace it with something modern, sleek and sophisticated. «Like myself», I lied to myself. In we went and it was like going through Boosco’s magic door. It was a lighting wonderland! Floor upon floor of wall-to-wall lights, light fittings, shades… you name it, they had it. Shopping for light fittings isn’t high on my list of ‘Things I Like To Do At The Weekend’ but it was as enjoyable as shopping for light fittings can possibly be. The staff were really helpful too. We asked for some advice and the easy option would have been to recommend the more expensive fitting but the one they thought would look better, given the photos we had, was the cheaper/less expensive option. Honesty! Call me a old fashioned but I value that highly these days.

While on a mission to redo a rather dark loft bedroom, I drifted down from MRCB Paints to wander through Hicken’s with stars in my eyes. Sure the astronomical costs for delicate steel-ribboned chandeliers and huge, dripping front hall-bling pitched most of the stock far out of my budget. But it was fun to stroll through those forests of designer lights, poking at architectural lamps and structurally inspired porch lights. The showroom itself is incredible, and it’s clear to see why major hotels and developers look here for something special to sparkle in multi-million euro lobbies.
