I remember from being brought shopping as a kid, with my Mum and Dad, and, occasionally, with my Grand Pa, that Garfield’s Bistro serves as a great meet up point for exhausted post-shopping parentals. With a hearty buffet for lunch, a good auld mug-o-schald and all the stickiest, creamiest buns, Garfield’s is the treat at the end of the shopping that parents and children alike look forward to, and is the best reason to do the shopping at the Merrion Shopping Centre. So, four stars for Garfield’s, because I have to go and buy an éclair now.

I think to call this place a bistro is a bit much, really. To me a bistro is firstly Italian, it is cosy, has a nice wine list, dogs eating spaghetti nose to nose in the back yard yada yada yada… What I dont think of is a caf(to be said in that Eastenders sort of accent), in a shopping centre with more plastic than wood. Leaving all that aside it is a great little caf and there are times when there is nothing like a sitdown instead of going shopping and throwing yourself into a coffee and sticky bun
