We came for a visit and the start of a radio station sponsored city scavenger hunt. City Hall is impressive from the outside, but doesn’t offer much amazement on the inside. I’m glad we had a chance to check it out, but didn’t see anything that I’d feel the need to label as can’t miss. Given its location to other tourist type destinations, its probably worth the short walk, unless the weather is truly down, which is probably why it was used as the start(and end) point for the hunt.

City hall is a beautiful building no doubt. Steeped in history too. If you look closely you’ll spot some bullet holes around. ;) I’ve shot a few weddings here and love it as a civil ceremony venue. The only downside is the acoustics as it’s such a large space and quiet echoey but if you don’t mind that, visually it’s stunning!

I visited here during culture night and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. They had quite a few poster boards with historical information about Dublin. I am not certain if this was just for the event or always there, but it was quite interesting. The building itself is beautiful with tile and mosaic floors and a beautiful dome. There is also nice stonework throughout and statues. My visit was rather quick as it was quite crowded for culture night but I was glad that I did decide to drop in as it was impressive.

Back in the day… waaayyyy back when my profession was that of an event organiser, I ran quite a few events here, it is always spectacular, always lends itself to a classy sort of affair and the events were always a huge success. due in no small part to the surrounds. Working with DCC was also a pleasure, the management there are great and obliging and hugely helpful. I am reminded of all of this as I attended an event here on Tuesday, it was a lot more plush than the events I used to run but spectacular and showed off the Hall at its best. As far as I know the Hall is open to the public most days and it is well worth a shuftie if you are passing!

City Hall was designed by Thomas Cooley and, when it was completed in 1779, originally housed the Royal Exchange. It is an elegant reminder of the wealth and opulence of Dublin in the city’s 18th-century time. Today, City Hall is in the ownership of Dublin Corporation, which has restored the building beautifully. The great central atrium, complete with gold-leafed dome and mosaic floor, is one of the most impressive public spaces around. The history of Dublin is told in a vivid, computer-aided series of exhibitions. When you visit Dublin Castle, tahe a trip into City Hall, and relav in the Tea Rooms when the feet are sore.
