Dublin City Council

My only purpose here is car parking permit applications… And having had to deal with other council offices, this one is a pleasure. Very open spacious, modern building it’s pleasant to go to. They have a good ticketing system in place and despite long waits in other offices, this one is always very quick and prompt.
Staff were friendly and professional, they offered me great advice on how to best renew in the future plus whilst waiting for the official permit they provided me with enough temp permits to keep me tied over which saved me a lot, at the time without the permit I was paying 3.20 per hour to park outside my house! So quick service, friendly and within a week I had my official permit :-)

This is a review for the customer service /​reception area of the DCC. I have had a few dealings with them recently, and I have never found them to be anything other than informative, friendly and completely on point. What are the chances! A county council that knows it’s shizzle, and is happy to impart this information on those who call! All whilst seeming like they’re enjoying their day and their time in work. Slim to none I’d say. Yet there it is folks! Bingo!

In writing these reviews I have found the Ireland is a country that likes to have things in halves, mainly pubs in fairness but also the civic offices in dublin city centre.
This is probably the most controversial building in the city, there were fights that lasted twenty years just about this building and the site it is on. Now any tour guide will tell you that Dublin is a viking town, founded by those scandinavian warriors, and what would you expect Dublin City to do when they found the foundation of Dublin, the very spot where it started? why they would make it a historical site of course! No, the stupid council wentand decided to build their big ugly offices on the site. Here comes the bit about the two halves, the first half of this building was built in the sixties when they discovered the viking site. Then they decided to only build half of the building but then the ninties came and they decided, «sure we might aswell build the other half and completely take over the start of Dublin» so they did, the one mildly interesting thing about the second half is that it is modeled on the UN building in New York. Still no historial viking site. I think some of the walls have been left intact insde somewhere though and you can rent the space out to have an event, just one small nod to dublin actually having a beginning.

Before I applied for my grant people kept telling me how inefficient Dublin City Council was. So I wasn’t exactly looking forward to having to deal with them. But I couldn’t have been more surprised when I finally dropped by the Grant’s office for the first time. Yes, you might have to wait for a few minutes even if you come here in person, because usually there is a queue and only one person answering questions. However, when you do get to speak to them they are super-​helpful and friendly. Going out of her way to accommodate a friend of mine who couldn’t come down in person, Maire even gave me her direct email-​address to give to him. Small changes to my application were done within minutes and without a hitch or any big fuss. Why can’t bureaucracy always work like this?

These people give me my grant so I like them very much. Actually considering their history and the general expectation of incompetence I found myself very much surprised by my dealings with them. Despite the myriad of things they deal with they’re generally quite efficient and forthcoming with information. The website is also pretty good for standard questions and information.
Whenever they had to post me forms I got them pretty quick. You may be left waiting on the line if you call at busy times though.

There are a lot of people who think that this building is an eye sore and ill keeping with it’s surroundings. Then there are people like me who really like it. I think the mass of glass is refreshing amongst all the concrete. It’s angles are also very interesting, I do not claim to be a connoisseur when it comes to architecture but it’s hard not to notice this building as you enter Dublin.
