Dice Bar

Liked the bar! I’ve been here a few times and it’s just a 2 minute walk from the Smithfield Luas stop! It’s a lovely bar to go to on a summers day! It’s tiny but cute! It’s a must go to if ever in Dublin!

Dice Bar is a great place for a lazy drink with friends. There is always great music on, there is a decent selection of beers (although it could be better) and there own homebrew Revolution Red is fairly damn tastey. Suring the week the place is usually queit, but on Saturday and Sunday the place ends up completely rammed. But even when it is packed, there is still a pretty good but somewhat sweaty atmonsphere.

A must go if you are living in the Smithfield area. Incredible prizes and a big variety of beers with a very nice and friendly waitress. The atmosphere and the decoration are really good too.

I love to pop into Dice bar from time to time just off Benburb Street in Dublin 7.
They have a grand array of craft beers including Franciscan Well Rebel red and Guinness to name but a few. Well technically Guinness isnt craft beer but it certainly is crafty when you say you are going to the shop to get milk and fall into a bar stool to devour a delicious pint! The Guinness is good here.
The upmarket crisps here are a brand called Pipers, I once made a meal out of 3 pints of Guinness and 2 bags of pipers in Dice — basically Bear Gryllz does not have a patch on me. If it wasnt for the kind barmans non judgmental service I would have looked like a greedy pig but thankfully he even turned a blind eye. Even when I began licking the excess flavouring left behind from the packet between my thumb and forefinger.
when here a couple of months ago there was a big fire across the road and the staff saw to it that the residents whose safety was in jeopardy had somewhere to sit whilst the dublin firebrigade tackled the blaze next to their dwellings. This makes the staff here a bunch of good folk if you ask me.
When in Smithfield you can always count on the roll of a dice…
They do 2 bloody Marys for I think € 10 on a bloody Sunday, I recommend U2 should try em

Dice Bar is off the beaten track if you’re tourist but easy to get to with the Luas line running right past it. I have fond memories of this bar as it was one of the first I went to when I arrived here, an unpretentious little rock bar that plays a variety of tunes depending on the DJ.
The bar staff seem genuinely happy here and have fun with their jobs, they have a great selection of cocktails and the crowd is mix of young, old and some backpackers who have wandered in out of curiosity.

Out with a group of four lads and out for drinks /​food before going to a Dara O’Brian gig I was made fun of for choosing here while we waited for a table at Fish Shop!!! They didn’t complain about the great beer selection when got in though! This place has been here since the early 2000s and according to their website there has been a bar at that particular spot since 1770!!!
I chose a Macivors Dry Cider and they gave me a pint glass with ice.
Great beer and cider selection. Really nice vibe about the place, decent music but not so loud you can’t carry a conversation. Pretty busy for a Wednesday evening but we managed to grab a low table that’s beside one of the entrances door so got some air too :-)

Great place! Good music and the staff: gotta love it! Worth dropping by, absolutely :) Get off of that Temple bar area and get your thirsty butts over here. You won’t be disappointed.

Great little spot, dark with great music. Friendlier than it appears from the outside, which is like most places in the area actually. Nice selection of beers on tap too.
100% worth a visit if these types of bars are what you’re into. Whether for a quick pint or, you know, loads!

Great place for a quiet drink with a good selection of beers on tap and on bottle! Spirits selection is not bad also! They stock Fever Tree mixers, which is great! Not a place for everyone tho, as the other reviews said staff can a bit ‘bold’ at times, but it all adds to the atmosphere, for me anyways! Reminds me of the old Eamonn Dorans somewhat!
Dog friendly also! The barman gave Mr Pickles a bowl for water, which was very nice of him.
Definitely a place to check out!

Fantastic dive bar hidden away off the quays. Worth travelling that bit out of the city for it. Banging tunes (rock, funk, soul, swing, blues, all things retro) and a nice selection of locally brewed beers along side the old reliables. Bar staff are sound and laid-​back.

Smelly, dirty and the staff are mostly rude although one girl is friendly enough.

I wanted to like this bar so much. Staff let it down for me. Everything else about it was cool so it’s disappointing.

I’m a fan of this bar. There’s not much that can be said to add onto all the reviews already put forward. It’s a little slice of New York, right bang in the middle of the north side.
Sundays go off here — it starts quiet enough, cosy enough, then around 8 or 9, the music gets cranked loud. Now this is the crux — if you’re not into 50s bebop or western, or general retro tuneage, you’d better get yourself to another Sunday session. People here love it and you’ll always see folks dancing in any free space possible, and generally getting into it. It’s so loud that you won’t really have a choice — so make it before it’s made for you!
My favourite thing though is the massive bar that you can sit at and booze, just like back in the Big Apple. *Rose-​tinted-​reminiscent-​sigh*

Great vibe to this place good music not a great selection of beers on tap well none that stood out to me hence why I went with becks vier it’s dark and it’s rocking the small barman is hard to get his attention the bar women are better the dj is huge with a big beard and is all serious about what he is playing but can’t mix and jumps from one extreme to another like led zeppelin then cuts to ska! Asked for a track to be played but he couldn’t have been bothered oh well! Also a guy whom I think May be the owner was behind the bar every 2 mins pulling his own pint and grinning like a Cheshire Cat at the people waiting 15 mins to be served !!! I think it actually was the owner listen up old man not cool and me dj smile more

This is the first pub I went to when I arrived in Dublin seven years ago. Where to start… I like it all: the décor, the people, the music, the atmosphere… It does get packed so brace yourself on those busy nights, but it’s worth it.

This is a great bar in an unlikely place. It’s off the beaten track of the usual central Dublin trails. But very popular nonetheless. It’s a funky kind of bar with great beers and music. At the weekends it’s always packed. It reminds me of the kind of place you see a lot in Berlin.
The only reason for not getting a fifth star is the location which doesn’t always suit. But that can work to its advantage as you don’t always have to go all the way into town to go out.

There is something about Dice bar that I really like, I just can’t put my finger on it. Maybe it is the old building, it has a large frontage with great big windows, I assume it was a family store in times past. There is something I love about the juxtaposition of drinking in this dive bar, set in my imagined 19^th century store as the sleek Luas tram glides by the windows.
The footpath in front of Dice is a nice spot to grab a couple of pints in the evening before the sun goes down, this spot seems to catch the last of the sun. It can be quiet earlier on in the evening, however this place really picks up when it gets dark. At night, this place has a great vibe. It really fills up and attracts a varied but nice clientele. The music can be equally varied, I had a night where half the bar was up dancing to 1920’s jazz, I was waiting for the flappers to arrive!
There is a good selection of bottled and draught beer, not just the usual suspects. I enjoyed the revolution red, and at € 4.15 it’s not bad at all.

And as I watched from the window of the LUAS, an extraordinary spectacle was presented to me. Not a hundred meters from my face was an astonishing public house. Now, I must concede that I had been expecting to see this bar but it’s appearance was most unconventional.
It was as though it were completely fat — like an enormous painting of a pub. I knew for certain that this could not be the case but as I passed the building the perspective I had upon the place did not falter, allowing me to view the front door even when — under typical circumstances — the corner of the building might obscure it.
With no other options apparent, I reasoned this must be the place I have been looking for and resolved to enter. The barman is hunched over some papers with his back to the patrons. As I approach, he asks «is it about a bicycle?»
«Not at all, sir. I did arrive here by the carriage of my own two feet upon a LUAS.»
He turns around and with a puzzled look upon his face exclaims, «I wasn’t talking to you.»
«OK.»
Without warning, another barman appears at my side and deposits a set of empty glasses unto the bar; he opens his mouth, from which flows an interminable stream of jargon about clip-​less clips, cadence and Kona with such fervor that his face begins to turn blue, all the while, the first barman nodding. The pair continue in this manner for quite some time and I begin to believe I would never be able to leave. It is only when the second barman spots a table full of empties that I am able to procure a drink for myself.
Inquiring as to what’s available, the first barman informs me that I may have anything my heart desires and that around these parts, a Wispa-​vodka is not unheard of. I contemplate this for some time, but determine that a request for a more conventional drink (of greater volume) may endear me to my new acquaintances.
The barman promptly reaches for a set of dials on the bar and begins to make very precise adjustments. This goes on for several minutes with further and further refinements to each dial until eventually he pulls a lever, opening a hole in a large pipe, in turn, creating a trickle of beer, which falls into my glass.
Acquisition of a seat was remarkably difficult. For reasons incomprehensible to me, there is only sufficient seating for approximately ten people, despite the large size of the bar. I lean against a wall opposite a dimly illuminated golden god.
It’s here I stay for some indeterminate amount of time while the pub seems mostly unremarkable and uneventful. It remains so until the DJ begins playing music. He begins by playing the most obscure band I have ever heard. Inside my head, a voice says «I liked their earlier stuff better.» The DJ, upon hearing this changes the music, playing an even less well-​known band. Every new track is played by a band identical to the last in every way except they are an order of magnitude more obscure. This continues track after track until the bands become so obscure and so niche that they may as well not exist at all.
This prompted me to begin a somewhat spiritual investigation into myself. The outcome of this was that I determined I was not nearly cool enough for this bar.

I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty dead, although they had Hoegaarden on tap so that’s a saving grace.
Old looking pub with seats patched up with black tape — but I’m sure all these will look different when you’re there at night with proper music going although not sure I’ll come back then anyway.

Sometimes you are lucky enough to experience that ‘look.’ Unexpected joy.
Where someone looks so deep inside your soul that you fuse in the moment into something wonderful and full of future possibilities. Everything was ordinary before but now that mutual explosion of lust, love, curiosity has awakened and everything is so much brighter.
This happens every time I darken these doors with my shadow.

Voll fünf Punkte für Ambiente und Stimmung, 2 für die sanitäre Einrichtung.
Diese Bar ist eine tolle Adresse für tolle Abende ohne gezwungenen Chic. Da sie am Rande des Stadtzentrums liegt, findet man hier kaum Touristen. Ich habe quasi direkt nebenan gewohnt. Das Publikum ist zwischen 25 und 50, die Musik klar Rock. Zwischen Studenten und Rockern findet man hier alle Styles. Essen gibt es hier keines, dafür rund 10 Biersorten. Preislich bewegt sich die Dice Bar rund 10% unter Innenstadtpreisen. Um 1h ist Last Order.
Die Toiletten sind ein wenig gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber das ist oft bei älteren Pubs in Dublin so.
