History

Established in 1997.

Box Architecture was created in 1997. Since conception, the company has been established as a leading design practice having won 17 Irish National Awards to date. Quality has remained the focus of Box throughout and this has been employed to a variety of projects including urban schemes, libraries, public and religious buildings, apartment units, corporate offices, crèches, housing developments to one off houses and award-​winning private commissions.

The success of Box Architecture is achieved through a personal approach to understand client needs. With a hands-​on approach, technical expertise, creative execution and a commitment to continued education, the company applies a philosophy of the highest principle in order to contribute to a sustainable future and maintain quality architecture.

Gary graduated in Architecture from Dublin Institute of Technology in 1995 after having previously studied civil engineering from 1988 – 1990. Since an early age, he has worked extensively as a carpenter under the opuses of his father who was a cabinetmaker on an array of projects that included design and build projects. This has lead to more practical approach and understanding of the building process. With this insight, he lectured in the final-​year of Architecture at DIT Bolton Street and was founding member of an international summer school in Italy, a member of the RIAI Council, ²⁰⁰⁴⁄₅ and spent 10 years in the AAI (Architectural Association of Ireland) and was a past president in ²⁰⁰³⁄₄.

Currently Gary is a board member on the ‘Irish Architecture Foundation’ and for the RIAI’s member’s magazine, ‘Architecture Ireland’.
