The cheap drinks here seem to be cheap for a reason… I couldn’t finish my white wine and my friend said it was the worst Guinness she’d ever had. Then they wouldn’t let my partner in because he was wearing ¾ length pants but there were girls inside with denim short shorts? Found the bouncers very rude and the only nice thing about this place is location.

Have to say previous review seems a bit harsh. In on a Tuesday w football on it’s reasonably full and comfortable. And beers are € 4. It’s huge mind so everyone keeps themselves to themselves but it’s fine otherwise.

I am very surprised there’s no reviews here. This is a very well known bar in Dublin. It was similar to Flannerys as in country folk /​GAA nights /​students /​busy Sunday’s and midweek. The nightclub was horrific and never frequented as you would just go to the very very popular bar and then Coppers!
Around 2008 – 2010, the bar had become so empty that they shut off ¾ or more of the bar, so you have a fraction of the bar to «enjoy». Post 2010, we had the nightclub reopen as «Rain» I think. Did you ever hear the phrase «grab a granny»?!Average age 50?
Seeing the patrons leave as you walk by after a night out, they are in a mess and seem to cause a lot of trouble. It would be an unusual week to not seeing folks in their forties and fifties threaten each other outside the nightclub.
Back to their limited bar and while they gave it the most modest makeover and a little more room in recent years, it’s most well known for fights and somewhere to avoid. I reckon if country based students who went to college in Dublin ten years ago came back and re-​visited the Portobello, they would be shocked.
Oh and have a look at the bouncers when the bar is open and the nightclub is due to open later, the bouncers outnumber the number of patrons in the bar! From when I did go in, there are familiar faces in the bouncer mix and they were absolutely awful in terms of meeting the criteria for their job. Rude and crude
Avoid this bar.
Oh there’s a hotel too. God forbid!
