Andrews Lane Theatre

I have this thing about standing out from the crowd just a little bit. I’m pretty sure that it’s thanks to a bohemian lifestyle that I’ve happily taken up and has been fueled by the thriving indie/​alternative scene in London. So I’m always delighted when that sort of scene grows a little bit more in Dublin.
WAR is pretty much value for money. We turned up at a reasonable time and managed to get free entrance in, we liked this whole free policy very much! We then proceeded to take advantage of the drink offers. 2x vodka and red-​bull for 10 Euro, our money was carefully squandered on checking that the alcohol content was in check. My hangover the next day is evidence enough that 30 euro goes a long way… however lets ignore the bottle of wine before hand that I mainly drank… I’m greedy like that.
The music is a nice seedy mix of general chart movers and ultimately cringe worthy tunes that you will still deny that you even danced to… let alone sing it word for word at the top of your voice.
The bouncers are friendly and helpful. The only bad thing about the night was that it wasn’t to it’s usual capacity, thanks to the flood fest that is Oxygen (one of the organisers of this night was due for a DJ set the following day) but it was still a lively night. The crowd that attends WAR is friendly and approachable despite them, as my friend so cunningly put it, having a very fierce appearance.

One of the best live venues in Dublin. Adorned with a graffiti of Dublin’s own Maser, it hosts great shows (Super Extra Bonus Party play here regularly) and is also famous for good DJ sets and mixed evenings.

Was here the weekend of Hard Working Class Heroes.
Great atmosphere and excellent bands that weekend. Prices were fair, they easily could have knocked up their prices for an event like HWCH. Also, the bathrooms were clean each of the three nights that weekend which was no easy feat considering the traffic they got.
Decent venue, I really want to check it out again!

ALT is one of my favourite places to go out to in Dublin. It’s a relatively new addition to the Dublin club scene, having been primarily a venue for gigs for the past few years but now the crowd who run it (who also run Whelan’s and the Village) have begun doing club nights.
The music played is mainly electro/​indie kinda stuff, and their Wednesday night is cheap and great craic.

Popular club which has very quickly cultivated a reputation for bangin’electro. I have to say it’s fully deserved. The crowd can be a bit too trendy for their own good sometimes but better that than being boring .
Good buzz, well worth a look.

Andrews Lane Theatre has been recently turned into a music venue and I have to say it was defeinitely a job well done.
I had never been in the Theatre before it was converted but the room is a great shape for live music. There are no odd angles like lots of the other music venues around the city centre and its a nice big space. Fits around a thousand people.
Some great bands have been booked in to play there and they have regular club nights.
The sound has not always been the best though and I often find it sounds very muddy which is a shame for a room that lends itself to live music. The PA does not seem to be up to scratch so hopefully that will get sorted out and it will be one of the best venues around
