Abbey Court

Wonderful place to stay right in the heart of Dublin! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hostel itself is so cool– there is graffiti and artwork all over and a hammock room for relaxing (personal favorite!). They run a pub crawl every night and walking tours everyday. Highly recommend!

I stayed here for a few nights recently on the recommendation of a friend who had stayed here before, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone asking me about it.
First of all, it was very easy to get back and forth from here to the airport, which is a big plus. The location is in a very popular area of town, which along with a lot of benefits that I will talk about later, means that there is a plethora of transportation options in the immediate vicinity. The Airlink 747 bus was definitely the easiest way to get to and from the airport, but I ended up taking the Aircoach 700 bus one morning because it was the only one running that early. Regardless, both of these bus lines have stops very close to the Abbey Court.
Once here, check-​in was a breeze. I was actually in here much earlier than my check-​in time, but I was able to store my bags here until I could actually get to my room. They have a gear room downstairs that is self-​store, but it isn’t really locked up or anything and I wasn’t very comfortable with that. However, I paid 2 euro a day to keep my bags behind the desk in their paid storage area, and felt confident about that because they give you a ticket with a number and also attach the same number to your bag, so aside from just people not having access to it, there is a system in place to ensure ownership of the bag. I also used this for a few days as I traveled to a different country and didn’t want to take all my stuff, and it was a huge convenience to have. The staff at the front desk were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. I got a lot of help from them figuring out how to get around, and what places I should go see. My recommendation, as long as the weather is nice and you are in mediocre shape, is to just walk the city. It’s very accessible from this location. The best way to find all of the big attractions is to get a map of the hop-​on-​hop-​off bus service that they have at the front desk and just follow that course. There is also certainly no lack of nightlife within just a few blocks of the front door of this place. If you like to have a fun time, then this hostel is in a great location for you. There are more pubs and restaurants within a 15 minute walk from here than you could possibly make it to in one trip.
The hostel itself is exactly what I would have expected. It’s definitely comprised of a mostly younger crowd, and has a great mix of people from all over. It’s a really big place, so there are a ton of people around all of the time. Their common areas were very full, and made for a fun place to go meet new people. It isn’t a nice hotel, so don’t set your expectations on it being ritzy, but for a cheap place to stay, they certainly had all the amenities you could ask for. There was way more smoking in the outside area than I could stand, but the dining room was a nice place to hang out. I didn’t use their kitchen, but it was setup nicely and definitely being utilized by a lot of people there. The rooms themselves were pretty much just a bunch of bunk beds, and a bathroom/​shower if you booked a room with that. The beds were decently comfortable, and the storage lockers that each person had were plenty big and very convenient. Just make sure to bring a lock for them. The rooms each have electronic locks on them like a hotel door, so only the people staying in them have access. If you didn’t have a room with a bathroom, the showers and bathrooms located in the hallways were always easy to get to, and I never found myself waiting for one during the few days I was here. The linens were nice, and everything seemed clean.
The price for my room during the week was great, but it got quite a bit pricier during the weekend. The noise level wasn’t too bad late at night, but it was definitely quieter on the last night I was there when I stayed on a higher floor than it was when I was on the first floor earlier in the week. The rooms definitely need more electrical outlets, as sharing the few that were in the room with 10 other people wasn’t really easy. The wifi worked great in all of the areas of the hostel that I was in, and was fast enough to not have any issues with a face-​time call. I only did the breakfast one morning, and while it certainly wasn’t anything worth writing home about, it was definitely nice to have that available.
If I make it back to Dublin, this is definitely a place I will go back to for the ~ 15 euro price I had for the first couple weeknights, but I think I might look around a little more before committing to ~30 euro a night on the weekend.

Not exactly what we had thought! Needs a good facelift for sure. Never felt unsafe, however and that’s a plus!

Repéré rapidement dans plusieurs guides, le fait de trouver une chambre libre au Abbey Court pour notre premier jour en Irlande nous a enlevé une épine du pied. En effet, trouver un hôtel raisonnable en plein coeur d’une captiale n’est jamais aisé.
Pour être en plein cœur, là on né peut pas mieux, c’est peut être l’hôtel le mieux placé dans sa catégorie. Situé sur les bords de la Liffey, collé à O’Connell street et à 2 minutes de Temple Bar, que demander de plus !?
Côté logement, c’est pas tout à fait ça ! Notre chambre était minuscule, avec salle de bain tout de même mais le tout dans à peine 10m²; c’est tout juste si on pouvait ouvrir nos valises par terre… Autre soucis, le bruit, les portes qui claquent, notre impériale vue sur cour et ses ventilateurs et autres moteurs de climatisations qui ronronnent. Bref, nous avons été assez déçu de notre passage ici d’autant que la partie petit déjeuner né fait pas rêver, la salle se situe au sous sol et un buffet bas de gamme est proposé avec tout de même le strict minimum (pain, confiture, salade de fruit, céréales,.).
La devanture est clairement attirante mais ça s’arrête là ! Certes, c’est économique mais le rapport qualité/​prix n’est pas des meilleurs…

Réservée sur internet pour notre première nuit à Dublin (voyage entre copines), j’ai adoré la succession de couloirs, mini salon, salle de douche, et chambres tous plus colorés les uns que les autres. L’ambiance était vraiment très sympa, tout le monde se saluait. Niveau hygièné, c’était parfaitement correcte et les tarifs particulièrement attrayant!
Petit bémol, il n’y a pas de parking, nous en avons trouvé un pas très loin mais le stationnement est compliqué dans toute la ville.
Nous avions réservé dans cette même auberge le dernier soir de notre séjour en Irlande, il y a eu un cafouillage sur la résa internet, il n’avait plus de lit dispo. Ils se sont donc débrouillés pour nous trouver une place dans une autre auberge au même tarif.

Our room was on the third floor and connected to the smoking area outside. When we would walk onto our floor, there would be a nauseating plume of cigarette smoke that would greet us. Also– the wifi would only work in some hallways and the ground floor, making stair wells a popular area for gathering and making it difficult for anyone else to move around. The staff was great and very helpful, can’t see my self visiting again in the future though.

This hostel was perfect for my solo trip. I was only there for a super short weekend. The wi-​fi worked nearly everywhere, though the bandwidth too low/​slow for me to backup up my phone photos over wi-​fi to my Dropbox.
The room (Female 8+bath) and other facilities were clean, though all the common and private toilets/​showers are quite small. More importantly though, hot water and excellent pressure came spouting out with minimal delay. For someone like me used to traveling in developing countries, these are luxuries to relish.
Free breakfast is quite limited in selection (toast/​jam/​cereals), but gets the job done at the price point. The staff making sure breakfast runs smoothly are definitely a hard working bunch who I applaud.
The front desk staff is very attentive, friendly, and helpful. They’ll answer any question and won’t look bored in the process. There are more rules and policies here than I’ve ever experienced before, but nothing that isn’t ultimately in the best interest of safety and sustainability.
Location wise, I thought it was perfect. Not smack dab in the middle of tourist central, but a 5 min walk in either direction to the happening spots and close to multiple transportation routes.
My only con would probably be the amount of stairs! It’s a very vertical building, and climbing up and down all the time to get the things I need is exhausting when you’ve been walking around all day trying to catch in the sights. This is nothing that the establishment can change or anything, but if you’re weighing options, you might want to take this into consideration.
I’d be back again if I was desperate a short-​term place, but I’d also be more than willing to see what other hostels have to offer in the same price range.

That picture of Abbey Court is outdated or something, because the building is purple now which makes it easy to spot.
I feel like everyone’s experience varies here at Abbey Court. And I definitely have mixed feelings about the place. My friend and I initially booked one might’s stay in a 6 bed room. However, they overbooked and gave us two options:
1) Stay in the 6 bed room and be separated
2) Move into a 28 bed room (WHUT)
We chose the latter option because it was my friend’s first time staying at a hostel and the thought of being separated made her uncomfortable.
We stayed in the rainbow room.
Pros:
1) great way to meet people. I met quite a few people from different parts of Spain that invited me out to pub crawl.
2) There are lockers beneath the bed
3) beds are very comfortable and the sheets were clean
Cons:
1) It was absolutely ridiculous trying to find my room. I’ve never been in a place that was more of a labyrinth. I got lost. SOBER. I walked down a couple of flight of stairs, took a turn, only to walk up another flight of stairs. To this day, I really don’t know where I stayed. I just followed the signs.
2) To get into the room, there’s a code that you punch into a keypad and, because there’s 28 people that was staying there, the door is always opening and closing.
3) There isn’t an outlet for every bed.
That’s not to say that this is a bad hostel. —-The service was impeccable; the front desk gave us a huge discount on our stay for the inconvenience (we paid 12 Euros each which was a steal) and helped us find different attractions around town.
–The continental breakfast was pretty good (and free): coffee, tea, cereal, orange juice, sausage rolls, toast.
–There are plenty of places to socialize including the dining room, computer room, hammock room.
The entire place was just a little crowded for my taste (it’s so gigantic there), but if you want to meet people, this is a great place to be. Just make sure to bring a towel and a good pair of shower flip flops.

This place is acceptable in terms of safety and cleanliness, but there are so many hostel options in Dublin that you’re better off going somewhere else for a longer stay. I only stayed at Abbey Court for one night before traveling around Ireland. I had planned on coming back afterwards, but the pace gave me a bad vibe so I stayed somewhere else.
The good;
~ Wi-​fi throughout the building. I was on the 2^nd (3^rd for Americans) floor and had a great signal
~ Plenty of public spaces for socializing and lounging; huge dining area, computer room, music room, and hammock room (!!) just to name a few
~ The building is really easy to spot with the bright paint job and central location
The bad;
~ No lockers in the rooms so your stuff is unsecured. They do have luggage storage down in the basement, but it’s out in a locked wooden shed.
~ I stayed in a 10 person room and was the only one there… creepy
~ Really really loud all night long. The doors essentially need to be slammed shut

Eh. Some disclaimers before I start this review:
1. I’m almost 30 years old, LOVE to travel but am too poor to stay in a solo hotel in Europe and am also too old to stay in a hostel in Europe.
2. I used to work in a hostel in San Francisco (HI City Center, represent!), so I compare all standards to that hostel.
My stay:
The ride from the airport was pleasant enough. The bus was cheap and the walk from the bus stop to the hostel was short and pretty easy to get to from O’Connell Street.
Check in was really quick and the staff seemed pleasant and enthusiastic.
There was free wifi throughout the hostel, which was a bonus.
The common areas were pretty clean, as were the bathrooms. Speaking of which, there were TONS of bathrooms spread throughout the hostel, which was a good surprise.
I didn’t have the breakfast, but I’m sure it was pretty standard.
It was a cold weekend and the beds were super comfortable. Seemed clean enough with no bedbugs!
I stayed in a 20 bed female dorm room. Read that: 20 FEMALES IN ONE ROOM.
Never again homies! All in all, I’m not sure if I would stay in THIS hotel again, or ANY hostel. I would definitely never stay in a room with 20 other chicks again.
I was only there for a weekend and the price was right, so meh.

I’m giving Abbey Court four stars based on my experience, although I’m pretty sure my experience will differ significantly from everyone else’s.
When I got to Dublin to study abroad, my program put us up in Abbey Court so we could get accustomed to the city during our orientation. I thought the location was great. We had an included lunch buffet (although, I think you normally have to pay extra for it). There is a lounge with a TV and other various amenities. We met some guys from Cork who were in town for something like the Irish version of American Idol. They were really fun to talk to. Anyway, my rooming situation was really good because I stayed with people from my program. I can’t say what all the other rooms are like. I had a really good experience at Abbey Court. I think the location is perfect for anyone making a trip to Dublin.

Abbey Court is a hostel and tourist apartment complex on Bachelor’s Walk, right beside O’Connell Bridge. In terms of location, you can’t get much more central, and most rooms have views over the bridge and the River Liffey.
They are refurbished to very modern standards, are clean and very secure (you need keycards to get in and out and there are individual lockers in every room). Dorms have 4 – 12 beds with prices ranging accordingly from € 19 – 31. Private en-​suite doubles are € 79 – 89, which seems a little steep…
