Hertz Rent A Car

Hertz is a scam. I traveled from the US to Dublin Airport in the 13^th of November 2015. I booked my car via Hertz iPad app with a AAA discount. Called Hertz to make sure their wasn’t any additional charges. We discussed my credit card company policy of covering the additional insurance up to $ 50,000.
Arrived at airport was presented with three options. If I waved the insurance they would hold $ 5,000 on my credit card or hold $ 3,000 and charge a daily rate or not hold any funds on my credit card and charge me about 60 euros per day. I argued but the women behind the counter said I agreed to their terms and conditions and pulled out a copy (wasn’t the first time she had done this) defending her position. I complained saying I had called and confirmed. They didn’t care. I had pre-​paid the rental of about $ 158. They subsequently charged me $ 823 for a 8 day rental. Almost a $ 1,000 in total. If that fair? I will lodge my complain with AAA and Hertz. At the very least disclose the option so you know. My sons traveling via Belfast had a much much more reasonable cost and experience.

Weil der Irland Urlaub schon problemlos starten sollte, haben wir frühzeitig über den ADAC einen Mietwagen ab Dublin Airport gebucht. Die Einweisung am Quick-​Schalter, wie wir zur Hertz Station kommen, ging schnell und gut über die Bühne. Wir sollten nur neben dem Parkdeck auf den Shuttle-​Bus warten. Gesagt, getan. Was wir nicht wussten war, dass sämtliche Shuttlebusse (es gibt dort massenhaft Fahrzeugvermietungen) von diesem einen, kleinen Standort starten. Wir reihten uns also in einen Riesenpulk von Menschen ein und es begann mit jedem Shuttlebus ein Hauen und Stechen um einen Platz. Ganz schlecht organisiert!
Nach etwa 30 Minuten hatten wir einen Platz ergattert und waren fünf Minuten später am Hertz-​Center. Dort war eine wahnsinnig lange Schlange und wir mussten fast zwei Stunden warten, bis wir an der Reihe waren. Wir hatten aber das Glück, das wir einen fitten Mitarbeiter erwischt haben. Unsere vorgebuchte Autokategorie (Kleinwagen) war schon vergeben und so bot er uns ohne Aufschlag einen SUV (nagelneuer Nissan Qashqai) an, den wir natürlich gerne annahmen. Dazu noch ein Dieselfahrzeug, mit extrem niedrigen Verbrauch. Super!
Die Rückgabe erfolgte problemlos, das Auto wurde abgestellt, die Schlüssel in einen Briefkasten eingeworfen.
Wir würden immer wieder Hertz wählen, würden es aber begrüßen, wenn Hertz beim Shuttleservice und der Abfertigung besser organisieren würden.

Complete disaster, during the return no sufficient shuttles and no lines. Driver yelling like handling a cow ranch!

Shysters.
They lied about pretty much everything. Fees, taxes, fuel costs.
Their customer service is as bad as I’ve experienced anywhere in the world.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Recently picked up a rental car from Hertz at the Dublin airport. We had a reservation for an automatic car. It took 2 hours from the time we got to the desk to talk to a representative to the time we were given the keys to the car. If a customer has a reservation, the car should be available at the time the reservation was for. I would recommend arriving at this location early and planning on waiting a while.
There is a second location in Dublin to rent a vehicle, but I was told by my travel agent that their prices are higher. The taxi ride from our hotel to the airport was less than 30 euros, so it is up to you to decide if you time is more precious than your money.
To be fair, if we rented a manual car, we probably could have been out of there after a 30 minute wait since manual cars are most common.

So I rented in Dublin, from the great and internationally known Hertz rental agency. and this is what I got:
I ended up with a flat for which I was charged $ 25, as if it is my fault. when I called the service number on the key fob, I immediately received a recorded message telling me that I am NOT eligible for this service. no human contact, an immediate pre recorded message. when I called the rental location directly, the idiot on the phone said, just change it yourself! my question to him was what if I were 99 years old and could not do so? what if I did not know how to? Of course there was no answer. So I commenced to change the tire by myself. in the spare well I found a dirty partially deflated spare from a different vehicle. additionally, some of the tools required to change the spare were missing. it was with the help of a kind motorist who used his own equipment that we got the spare on the vehicle. when I called Hertz I was advised that there was nothing that could or would be done. clearly Hertz has absolutely no standards that it makes its international name holders adhere to. I will not do business with hurts again anywhere, ever.

Horrible experience with hertz. Visited from America and everything about hertz was bad from the customer service (there was none) when we picked the car up to the way they treated us when our car broke down, which was a problem on their end. That was almost a month ago and we still have not received a response from customer service. Maybe their different here at home but I would never recommend them to anyone looking to rent a car.

Way to go. Pick up your car from the premier position in the terminal. Cars are cleanest and best of all the Irish operators. Drop off is now much easier since they installed the new signage. The guys at drop off always impressed but this week nov 18 late evening they drove me to my hotel in the car itself so I didn’t have to even lift a bag!!! Usually there’s a shuttle bus and they will drop you at the Radisson but this time was even better!
Don’t forget to fill the tank before drop off. There’s a «real» gas station at the airport terminal but on the road by the drop off location there are only nasty self service prepaid places that are difficult to use.
If you rent the Diesel VW Passat it’s a lovely car.

Rented from Hertz — Dublin Ireland. The car had damage to the driver side mirror on it prior to me renting it. When I returned the car we found minor scratches on the left lower spoiler that could easily be buffed out. I wasn’t sure that I had caused the damage, but was told by the Hertz agent that the damage was about 300 Euro, which was simply outrageous. The car was then taken to the Hertz repair shop where the cost for repairs went from 300 Euro to 669. When I tried contacting Hertz, Brian Goldsmith responded telling me that if I didn’t like the estimate that I could return to Ireland to dispute it. They have since refused to answer any correspondence. This is a scam plain and simple. WARNING TO TOURIST GOING TO DUBLIN. DO NOT USE HERTZ.

Sorry to see that previous reviewer had a really bad time with Hertz.
My experience was quite different.
The car hire started at Shannon Airport and finished in Dublin.
Very efficient check-​in at the airport desk in Shannon Airport. Had me sorted and on my way very quickly. Even gave me a choice of «Insignia or Passat». Took the Passat as they’re both on the same tariff.
Return at Dublin is a little bit of a pain, as you drop the car off outside the airport compound and then get mini bus into the airport.
Quite efficient, though.
Overall, I’m happy with the service.
Hope that previous reviewer comes back to Ireland and has a better experience.

Terrible experience with Hertz car rental at Dublin airport!
We reserved a family sized car before we travelled from New York for a certain price.
Arrive to collect the car and we were told that my husband couldn’t get insurance as he wasn’t over 30. We agreed to get a mid sized car and ended up paying twice as much as we were quoted online.
When they took the car round for us is was a Ford Fiesta (a small compact car). We were travelling with our 2 year old daugter so that meant 3 passangers, 3 suitcases & a stroller in this small car — never going to work!!!
So they gave us a bigger car reluctantly. Never offered to put in the child seat either.
All in all it took us over 3 hours from we got off the plane to we got on the road…
NEVER EVER would hire from HERTZ again.
Very unhelpful staff & just a terrible experience!
