Tired of spending big €€€ on planes for booze?! Well fear not! It’s easy now, just find«The Loop» for your booze-y needs. Yes, they have a booth purely dedicated to liquor AND it’s duty-free. They have a nice selection of name brands but sadly no cider and the wine selection is not all that great. Although, they do sell the wine in smaller bottles so it’s easier to drink of the plane. I guess that’s better then the alternative… Nothing says alcoholic like opening a full bottle of wine on the plane!

I travel a lot and I’ve seen much duty-free. the loop isn’t all that different. the one thing that makes it stand out to me is how new, shiny, futuristic and well-branded it is. you’re wandering the airport and you see all sorts of mention of this mythical«loop» and you wonder to yourself«am I in disneyland? what IS this thing?» you soon realize it refers to the collective of the Dublin airport shopping and eating experience. it’s nice! the rest if the airport might drive me to drink but when that happens at least I have a pleasant place to buy my booze :)

Yikes, there’s a wagon of booze at The Loop! World Travelers will be well familiar by now with the lure of cheap jugs of gin and rum, stripped of their tax and infinitely more affordable than buying at the local offy. The game hasn’t changed at Dublin International Airport, just the location. Step inside the still-fresh Loop shopping concourse and hope you have the arm strength to lift all those bottles into your over head compartment. The selection is as generous as most commercial Off Licenses, including specialty bottlings like Middleton or Jameson Gold, however once you get past the big names there’s nothing particularly rare. Prices for those heading outside the EU are obscenely cheap, but those staying closer to home can still get a fair deal on a handle of name brand vodka… just try not to feel envious of those brandishing a boarding pass that pulls the price farther down.

A bit of a tease, this. They display the prices for those lucky travellers going outside of the EU zone, so you initially get excited at the prospect of a bottle of vodka for € 5 but you then realise that you are not one of the lucky ones who can avail of it. In saying that though, they do have some good deals for EU travellers, and it can be handy to get a little bottle of something in case you are travelling into somewhere where the bars will be closed and you don’t want to break the bank at the mini-bar.
