History

Established in 1977.

Originally an Ironmongery shop in 1885 — William Weirs. It was reopened as a DIY store in 1977 by Mr. RM Brocklesby. The Weirs name was held onto with permission from the old Weirs family. Weirs of Baggot St as it is known today is one of Dublin’s leading hardware & DIY stores. It provides a leading key cutting service along with supplying a large range of Electrical goods from light bulbs to electrical accessories. Over the last decade it has branched out into additional areas such as homewares, childrens & gifts section. The store is well known throughout Dublin and was recently refurbished by Mrs Maeve Plower, the daughter of Mr RM Brocklesby. Weirs has a great history attached to it and when you ask someone do they know it — the answer is invariably ‘Yes’.

This is a cool hardware store, when you walk in at first you’ll find a really cool collection of on trend house hold items from the latest funky kitchen accessories to cool educational toys for kids.
They also stock some really great greeting cards. Not the usual boring cards, these are great. I buy all of my cards here now.
Down the back is the actual hardware section. Not huge but they have all the usual suspects to help you out when you need them.

This place is adorable. I popped in the other day while I was passing and the first thing that hit me was the smell, it was subtle but nice, kinda floral. Not many shops have a nice smell. Maybe I’m just sensitive to it but it was pleasant!
I had a little wander around, checking out all the little gifts and trinkets.
I was approached by a lovely guy with a huge smile, asking if I needed any help, I didn’t.
I spent about 30 minutes pottering around and it was lovely. I have my eye on a couple of things that I want now so I shall be making another trip out soon!

What a surprise this shop was! Expecting it as just a gifts and cards store, I was surprised by the host of other stuff here, scarfs, handbags, jewellery, kids games, housewares, key cutting plus a pretty decent hardware section.
Place was a lifesaver after some recent plumbing issues in my apartment, which the hardware section coming up thrum a with some tools plus the guy offered some great advice.
Staff are always very friendly and helpful, also such a pleasant store to just potter about, never feel like I’m in a rush or hassled to buy which is so refreshing!

This is one of my favourite hardware shops as I won’t go to any other hardware shops only this one. As it has everything that I need and the staff are very friendly and helpful there is great gadgets also.
I highly recommend this hardware shop to anybody its a pity there isn’t many of them around Dublin.

Weirs of Baggot Street is a pretty good store with most of your DIY needs. It’s fairly big from the inside with gardening, kitchen, cleaning, fragrance, gift products amongst other things. The guys who work there are super nice and give suggestions if you ask them about some household thing you need help with. Very helpful folks and great service!
A bit on the expensive side but a very handy store in the neighborhood.

I adore this shop. Ok so it’s expensive for the gifts and toys but the menfolk who work in the hardware section are pure awesome. As a single girl I have had occasion to go in with a few DIY issues over the past few years and they could not be more helpful. They have never made me feel stupid even when I am probably asking the most obvious question and they have probably had to stifle a giggle or two. The last time I was there I was having trouble replacing a light fitting and they spent so long trying to help me fix the issue — and I ended up spending the grand total of € 2.70. They told me to come back if it didn’t work and they would help me sort it out. They also have a really nice stock of gifts and homeware and I usually end up leaving with some smelly candle or picture frame that I didn’t need but I would definitely come back here if I had another DIY issue.

i dunno why everyone’s gushing about this place, there are better hardware stores in dublin. BUT, in lieu of going across town to lenehan’s on capel street, Weirs certainly does the job. it also happens to be really close to my house :)
it’s true they have strange and interesting things and i do love going in there just to browse. as far as being a hardware shop tho, it’s not incredibly useful. you can find your garden variety of nails, screws and all that, but it’s more of what other’s have been alluding to — a sort of home ware and gifts shop.
i think i’ve only actually bought something from them once… oh yeah, keys… that was fine. but in general when i’m looking for DIY supplies, i don’t find what i need there and end up having to go northside. it’s kinda annoying.

Updating this review to 4 stars upon a return visit.
Went to Weirs again this weekend to prepare for a house move, and found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. They quickly pointed me to the right direction of the store for what I was looking for and even had advice on which brands to purchases. Furthermore when they found out I was moving, they offered me several free boxes to help with the move. Great service!

Weirs have a little of just about everything! we went in looking for Miele hoover bags the other day — difficult to find pretty much everywhere but Weirs had them!!!

This was not what I was expecting. What I was expecting was more of a DIY shop. Yes they had items for DIY but I was not expecting the kitchen equipment, gifts for children, snazzy garden tools etc. I was impressed.

Shopping for homeware or hardware stuff is never a dreadful task when you go to Weirs. It feels like the kind of place you could expect to be greeted by your first name when you step in the front door and the friendly staff is always more than happy to help you find just what you need.
They have a good selection of kitchen utensils and always seem to be unpacking boxes stuffed with new stock whenever I arrive. Here I got my first coffee press, a set of pots and a good cheese knive. And the price range is not out of reach for law-​abiding people.

Weirs is amongst a number of cool shops that describe themselves, for want of a better definition, as hardwares stores.
You’re as likely to find an ornamental and scented dragon candle-​statue here as a hammer to be honest and this is why everyone loves it.
There’ll always be the day where you just can’t face having to sit in your living room shrouded in darkness anymore and have to go buy a light bulb. When this day comes though you won’t rue it, you’ll embrace it because nobody regrets coming home with an hilarious Pirates of the Carribean waste paper bin, and a light bulb.

Weir’s is a little treasure trove. It has anything you need when it comes to home ware or hardware.
For example they stock: cards, kids toys, frames, candles, chopping boards, cutlery, baking trays, light bulbs, mugs, baskets, glue, plugs, fans… and they have a key cutting service in the back too!
The staff are super friendly — I think it’s family run — and they’re really helpful to assist you in any way they can.

I like Weirs, mainly because there’s always something unusual in there. There’s serious hardware stuff, a bit of home interior kind of stuff, and then a whole heap of things you would never expect, like model planes and coloured lunch boxes and novelty umbrellas. A great place to shop for a gift, and convenient if you need hardware and live in D4 (I haven’t seen many other places about where you can buy nuts and bolts and the like). The girl behind the counter never smiles, and a lot of the stuff you could probably get at Argos for half the price, but we should support local businesses, especially interesting ones.
