Battle Of The Boyne

I’m guessing this is a much better place on the weekends, but today it was nearly deserted. A couple of rooms with multimedia presentations and some costumed mannequins and examples of period armaments. I don’t think folks come here for that though. It’s more to understand the cause of all the Protestant and Catholic hatreds in the North, as well as to find out how this speaks to people today.
All in all, this place is tidy to the point of antiseptic, and not all tha engaging in terms of the history it commemorates…

If you aren’t Irish, you may not of heard of the Battle of the Boyne. It took place in 1690 but let me assure you, we are still talking about it — feel free to bring the subject up in pubs. It was a seminal battle that pretty much altered the course of Irish history, between Protestant King William III and his father-​in-​law, the Catholic King James II. The contestants were playing for the Irish, English and Scottish throne.
The battle, won by William, helped ensure the continuation of Protestant supremacy in Ireland.
