Cloonacauneen Castle

I have been to this restuarant many times before (including afters of my own wedding, my 30^th Birthday party). I was annoyed at the fact that I had booked for a christening to have finger food and there was no where for us to sit with the function room earlier. There was tea and coffee included in the pakcage which I had selected, a few people out of the 30 that were there were asked if they would like tea or coffee, I certainly was not one of them. I was charged for 40 people but ahd confirmed that only 30 would be attending during the week. My husband paid the next day without my knowledge. I went back to Cloonacauneen Castle to get a refund and I was met with a Lady (the owner) who had the worst attitude I have cme across when I asked to be refunded I was told I will have to wait and I said no I would like to be refunded today. This lady then proceeded to tell me that «you shouldn’t really book finger food for the afters of a chrstening» as if I was dirt on her shoe. I have never been so insulted in my life and I will never go back there. Considering I am local, I was disgusted, highly offended and insulted.
I did have my daughters confirmation meal booked there but I feel that my money is obviously not good enough. I can’t understand people who treat their customers in this way considering we are in a recession do they not need tge business.

My sister had a party here after she and her husband were married overseas. There were about 200 people invited to attend and the arrangements were that there would be appetizers and a cash bar. My sister reserved the three bedrooms in the castle for the night for herself and her husband and her two bridesmaids. Upon arrival we were informed that there was «a problem» with one of the rooms and that one of the parties would have to stay in the guesthouse across the street. The problem was that the owners mother decided to spend the night drinking at the bar and stay the night in the castle and so they gave her one of the rooms. The outside of the castle was in complete darkness and it was difficult to find «the guest house». After knocking on a neighbors door we were directed to it. The room was dirty, hair in the bed, no trash can and there was no bathroom, the bathroom was across a hall. The castle owners also turned away other parties who were looking for rooms telling them there were none available. There was at least one other room in the guest house available which had three beds and a bathroom. We ended up using that bathroom. I would neither recommend nor ever stay there again. Too bad people dont realize that their guests pay attention to what is going on. Not all of us sat at the bar all night!
