Kumon is a unique self-​study method of learning using the core subjects of Maths and English as tools to develop both academic and valuable life skills in children of all ages and abilities. Our worksheet and centre based programmes of daily study foster children with a positive, «can-​do» attitude to learning.

History

Established in 1958.

The Kumon method was developed by Toru Kumon, a Japanese maths teacher, who believed passionately in a well rounded education for young children. He understood the potential within every child and that that this could be nurtured with the right conditions and support.

From small local beginnings, Kumon has grown into an international child focused organization, with Kumon now being offered in more than 46 countries worldwide and helping to pursue the potential of more that 4.6 million students.

Kumon has a growing network of study centres in Ireland because we want to offer as many children as possible the opportunity to study Kumon and achieve success from the start.

I worked for many exciting and eventful years in the Irish film & TV industry, but always had a desire to work with children and find a new challenge. So I took a leap of faith and opened the Blackrock Kumon centre in September 2013. I felt that the individualised approach to learning and the flexibility of the Maths and English programmes, best supported students to develop their skills at a pace that was comfortable for them. The holistic nature of the support — being not just about the academic development, but also about the development of confidence and a positive attitude to learning also resonated with me deeply. I am very exited to grow my business so that I can offer these unique study programmes to more children in the area.
