this review is not just about the Arklow bay hotel but the surrounding area of the hotel. within the hotel itself you are met by a lovely big lobby area with comfortable red sofas and marble flooring. both times i have stayed here the rooms have simply been standard or in other words adequate. but i was’nt there to spend much time in the room. the restaurant is up the stairs to the first floor and i have no complaints about the food, although i think there should be more choice for breakfast. i would like to see real fruit on the buffet not tinned prunes or figs and mushrooms with the hot breakfast but the great thing is you can order smoked salmon or poached eggs from the kitchen. staff seemed to be unstressed even though the customers kept coming. on friday night the bar was very quiet but we were happy enough as they did not mind the children being in there as long as they didn’t run riot! on saturday night however we had a singer/musician who entertained into the wee hours and wow was his playing of the saxophone just brilliant! he played it and sang to Baked Street and actually got a standing ovation. outside the hotel you are met by lawns then paths that lead down to the lake which you can walk around and then visit the adult playground! there are lots of exercise machines you can either build a sweat up on or just act daft on! oh and if you walk up the path towards the rocks you will find yourself looking out onto the Irish Sea! waves and some beach although you have to either walk a fair bit or drive to Inch beach a couple miles away. The hotel also has a gym and swimming pool with steamroom, sauna and unfortunately tepid jacuzzi.
