When given a choice between soba or udon, I usually go for soba. I don’t mind either, but I don’t really like the chewy, slippery texture of udon. Some udon noodles are so slippery that picking them up with your chopsticks is a chore! But that’s not the case at Yummy Delight. Its unoriginal and not at all Japanese-y name aside, this restaurant serves the best udon. It’s located on the fourth floor of Windsor House, on the same floor as the UA Cinema. They do a sort of DIY udon where you can pick either a small or large bowl, and which toppings you want added. Each topping is a different price, and they range from seaweed to shrimp tempura to barbecued pork. I have always opted for the large bowl, which isn’t actually very big at all so I can’t imagine how small the small bowl would be. My go-to topping is seaweed — you can’t have udon without seaweed! And sometimes, I’ll add either shrimp or pumpkin tempura. I love that the soup base of the udon is very clear. Some bases for udon taste like pure MSG, making it extremely salty and leaving you seriously thirsty afterwards. The udon is soft but not slippery. I often get seaweed as toppings and they’re pretty generous with the amount of seaweed they give you — in my opinion, that amount can be shared between two bowls of udon. The tempura is nothing too remarkable but is not bad. Don’t worry, the tempura isn’t literally a topping — it’s just a side dish. There’s nothing more I hate than soggy tempura! When my friends and I are here, we order some things to share like the fried tofu or some sushi. The fried tofu is really good too and comes out piping hot. They also do lunch sets, but I have never ordered a lunch set here because I always go for the DIY udon which is never part of a set. Definitely give Yummy Delight a try next time you’re at Windsor House, and order their udon. You won’t be disappointed!
