OK, this one might not be as healthy as the other ones I mention but I have to put them on the list because their vegan burger is so so good they are the best I’ve ever had in my life! This place, like its name, is decorated in a 50s, 60s vibe from San Francisco, California and they even have a California state flag flying right at the restaurant(I immediately recognized that, once a Cali always a Cali LOL)! They also have various old-fashioned decoration items that take you right back in time. Even the menu is in a retro-style! It’s basically your typical American diner food place, VEGAN edition. :P So the most important food here– the burgers. I’ve tried different kinds but the best ones in my opinions are the ones with the patty made from beetroot and lentils. The sweet taste from the beetroot is such an outstanding flavor that adds to the entire flavor of the burger. The cheese in the burger is also vegan so the entire taste is very light. Unfortunately the buns are just regular ones made from flours so if you are gluten-free you might want to order something else. With that being said, there’s still plenty of options to choose from on the menu. The nuggets made from soy is so so so good and very addicting too. Even though you know they are fried and might not be as good for you but at least I just couldn’t help getting it every time I visit! There’s also a Southeast Asia dish with Indonesian influence, a rice dish, that seems extremely popular among other customers there so it should be pretty good. I’m quite a salad-addict but this place might not be a good place for salad if you need a good salad-fix. The base is the regular lettuce and no superfood or anything added. Plus the price seems a bit unreasonable for what you get both in the quality and the portion of the salad. In terms of other mains there’s plenty to choose from, with sushi rolls, Vietnamese noodles, pastas and Mexican dishes to offer. One thing to complain other than the high price($ 148HKD for the burger alone), is that they only take cash and they close as early as 9pm so you can’t do a late night burger run in here… I would say this place is a perfect spot to introduce your non-vegan friends and those who are new to the idea of eating healthy since they can satisfy all their fast food cravings here in vegan version without losing any of the yumminess. My ratings: Flavor — Environment — Price — Location —(Right in the heart of LKF.) Vegan/gluten-free options: Overall — Recommendation: The beetroot burger and the crispy nuggets See my photos and the full list of my Top 5 Restaurants for Eating Vegan/Gluten-Free in Hong Kong:

Been here 3 times. As with most western vegan place in HK. Menu is pricey(~150 lunch). Over the few occasions that I’ve been here, I’ve tried their burger lunch, soup and salad. My first impression of the place is that is it very cosy and nicely decorated. However seats are not comfortable as they try to fit many chairs Into a tiny space. Presentation of the food is excellent and taste is not bad. Portions are big enough to fill tummies, however service only deserves a two star ! On my last dining experience here I actually saw a piece of foam stuck in my cranberry(!!!) thank god that I like to look and pick my food before I stuff it my mouth. Upon informing the waiter lady there, she actually did not apologies and just took the dish away from me(my dish was not even half eaten). As with 99% of people on earth, I was expecting that a manager would come and speak with me but I waited half an hour before I asked the manager about the incident. He of cause didn’t not really respond and when I told him my salad was only half eaten, he only said he will give me a 10% off from my bill

If the girl down on D’Aguilar and Stanley had not been standing there with her giant sign advertising the place, we would not have known VeggieSF was here(so it goes for so many Hong Kong restaurants). It is located about a block away from the street corners mentioned above and my husband and I thought it was a worthy place to stop in for a late lunch. We walked in around 2pm on a Friday and had missed the lunch crowds. We specifically had wanted to go to this spot for it being a vegetarian establishment and everyone on this earth(including us) could hazard to get more greens into their daily diet. Veggie SF spin on this is that with so many outbreaks in the world of listeria and other animal based diseases that have made it into the human food chain, eating vegan is the right choice to avoid all this. Early reviews mentioned a busy lunch hour and a surely staff, but this was quite the opposite of our experience when we went at 2pm(In Hong Kong, if you are with the 3 million people in about a two square mile radius that is trying to eat lunch, this is just a consequence of your environment… it is what it is and nobody should be shocked when an eatery is busy at lunchtime). We had a delicious meal and were impressed with the creativity the menu choices(spinach oyster puried soup was scrumptous!), weekly rotation of some new items on the menu(the mock chicken skewer was so good, you could not have known the difference from the real thing), the visual feast of «circa 1960 décor meets San Francisco neighborhood cool» to keep your eyes busy while you are sitting there(we especially loved the SF49er display!) and loved seeing the owner there on sight. Everyone should eat more greens. Make it easy and fun for yourself and your family by disguising those greens binto the creative meals at VeggieSF. We will be back.

This place gets very busy during lunch and I I called to reserve a table with the noon to 1pm slot. Next appointment slot is 1−2pm. Love the décor here! Very unique with lots of vintage American items. My friend who came with me is a regular here, and she recommended the salad and veggie burger. We also ordered the tofu nuggets. This was my very first veggie burger and was not disappointed! There were 3 burger options and I went with the beetroot pâté one. The beetroot pâté was very delicious! Burger buns were very fresh as well. The big portion was very filling. It was satisfying even for a big eater like me. Gotta give props to the potato wedges with just the right amount of seasoning! My favorite was the tofu nuggets! It’s definitely better than McD’s! I would highly recommend the tofu nuggets. Overall I gave it four stars and would definitely come back!

Veggie SF is a funny little place that serves veggie food(believe it or not!), in a kitschy faux Americana diner environment. And, whilst the menu is not very substantial, it’s actually one of the better places to get vegetarian food. The offering is mainly veggie burgers, the choices being portobello mushroom, beetroot patty, or soy patty(like a Quorn burger), as well as a couple of Asian dishes, and a couple of pastas. The menu is a bit confusing, so bring your PHD with you; some dishes are only available on week nights or holidays, if you come at lunchtime, but not Saturdays, it includes salad or soup, and beverage, there are minimum spends before service both at lunch and dinner(ugh, I really hate that, it’s just so uncivilised). As a price guide, you’re looking at HKD138 for a burger and fries(well, pumpkin wedges), and HKD148 for a pasta. The food is a but hit and miss. I have had occasions when the burger was quite possibly the nicest thing I have ever eaten, followed by times where I wouldn’t give it to my cat. I tend to find the food worse at lunchtime, probably as they are trying to turn tables and chucking everything out fast. I think the fastest lunch I had was being given my food less than five minutes after ordering. Pre-made anyone? This relentless pace, makes it vital that you book(it is a small venue that gets busy), and probably is the cause of the slightly surly staff. They just seem so grumpy and inefficient most of the time. Maybe if the staff actually had a beef burger occasionally, they would cheer up? The style of this restaurant is casual, slow going, drop in for good food, but it is exactly the opposite for me. It’s book, get rushed, get attitude, get«blah» food, get out!

As soon as I got off the elevator and took my first step into this restaurant you are bombarded with cheesy café décor. This cheesy is good and made me feel like I was back home in the U.S. The smell of incense filled the air and there was familiar music playing in the background. I had just entered a new world in Hong Kong.
Several of us started out with the tomato and lemongrass soup. It definitely tasted fresh, but tasted like someone squeezed a bit of lemon in the soup instead of actually using lemongrass. We were a bit unsure whether lemongrass had been used until a stringy remnant showed up on my spoon. I ordered the grilled portabella and sweet pineapple burger. I was a bit disappointed that I had to go bunless because of my gluten intolerance. Also, the pineapple was not ripe on my burger, which is a major fail because sweet pineapple is in the name of the burger. The service at this place was impeccable. I dropped a spoon, and it was replaced so fast, that the five second rule wouldn’t have applied. Our waiter, Tommy was happy, understanding, and patient with accommodating changes we made in our order for the afternoon.
The concept of this place is great and they have an extensive selection of vegetarian items. I think they need to kick up their flavors a bit. My friends and I left feeling like we had a good meal, but nothing about the food really stood out. If you have SF in your name, you need to truly represent San Francisco, and have some alternative menu options to accommodate gluten free and other various diets. Despite this, the service and ambiance of this restaurant is unique and will keep this place going. I would normally give this place 3 stars, but fantastic service kicks it up to a 4.
