Tung Choi Street / Goldfish Market

So the Goldfish Market isn’t a market, but an insane street filled with animals. Not just goldfish but bunnies and cats and puppies and everything else you could possibly want to take home as an adorable pet.
But it’s the fish that blow you away, bags upon bags of fish all of shapes, sizes, colours, in clear plastic bags so they’re easy to see (and even easier to photograph). It’s a really beautiful street, and really kind of weird, but it’s absolutely worth checking out if you are in Hong Kong.

So clean Those pet stores from hamster to bunnies to cat to dog the lightlings interior so bright and colorful I wish NYC have pet stores like this!!! I bought cat treat (crab flavor) which they dont have in america and my cat loves it ALOT!!!

I always saw on TV or TVB about this area, so i finally decided to come, now i’m hook! every time i’m in HK, i always come here just to look around, but mainly here for the food! they have a lot of good food to choose from, after a full belly, stroll down the street and walk around window shopping at all those pretty fishes

one of my favorite and super busy streets to come to in mong kok which is a walk over from the ladies market… the goldfish market is an entire street that sells plastic bags of goldfish of all sizes, types, shapes and colors (I’ve seen ones as big as two baseballs combined!!) that are literally hanging on walls (kind of sad) and other types of fishes… this is also the area where you get all your pets and their needs as well in Hong Kong. the environment hasn’t changed much since my first visit over a decade plus ago when I was a kid visiting in Hong Kong… it seems to remain the same in this well known tourist area of mong kok…

Quite sad to see so many beautiful fish in small plastic bags… really not worth the time in our humble opinion…

Overall, definitely a place to check out when you are visiting HK.

As kids we were all excited when we went to pet shops– the different animals– puppies, kittens, birds and of course– gold fish. The perennial goldfish seems to be a favourite amongst first pets and I can imagine why: they are cheap to buy, cheap to keep, doesn’t take much up keeping. Just feed the things and they will be happy swimming around in their little bowl all day long. That’s of course will you flush it down the loo eventually.
What I said about goldfish was my impression, as a kid, of what keeping a fish means. There was only one type and there is not much more you can do apart from giving it a bigger tank. How wrong could I be.
Coming here to Goldfish street you will find yourself in a streetside makeshift aquarium– I have seen more fish here than I have at sea world and they don’t have piranhas there. The variety aside it is the scale that hits you– an entire street of shops that devotes itself to the sale of fish and other related items. I found that champion Kois can sell for 20−30k and that if you really wanted to pimp your fishbowl– you really can go all out and get it a playboy’s penthouse. You can pick up any fish or fishy-​related items here.
Fish aside there are a number of normal pet stores springing up nowadays– its not the norm and I think they are diluting the feel for the place. However, if you are in Hong Kong for a short time then don’t miss it for the world!

Most people know Tung Choi Street as Ladies’ /​Women Street, but that’s only the portion of it south of Argyle Street. Tung Choi Street north of Mong Kok Road, however, is a completely different street, known as the Goldfish Street to the locals.
Almost all shops that bank either sides of the street in this segment sell pet fishes. Walking along, it’s as if you’ve ventured into an aquarium street. Kids get oh so excited, and adults are turned into kids here too. It is a cult-​favorite shooting place for photography fanatics as well. Colourful tropical fishes, goldfishes, are displayed either in fish tanks bathed under neon-​blue UV light or in smaller stalls, pre-​packed in batches into plastic to-​go bags, which are then pumped swollen with air, so that you can simply purchase one of these ‘fish balloon bombs’ — as I call it, and take home directly, pretty neat packaging idea~
Besides the feast to the eye, it is also a one-​stop goodies haven for fish pet-​owners. You can get all sorts of feeding materials (fresh raw red worms, for example), tank enhancement gears such as thermometers, thermostats, heat tubes, air pumps, UV lights, decorative ornaments, stones pebbles, sea weeds, artificial salts for sea-​fishes etc. etc, anything you need. The shop owner are also very friendly, helpful and professional. You can present pretty much any problem you encountered when you are caring for your pets, and they would give you good advice on what to do to enhance you set-​up. It is like a physical hobby-​forum, where you can immediately sort out for things you need once you get the invaluable advice~
