A friend of mine suggested to try out this hidden secret in Sheung Wan. The house is nicely decorated, the cuisines are fine. While I need to wait for a friend before ordering the main dishes, perhaps I looked hungry, the waitress offer me a complimentary — ’ Thousand years egg with sweet and sour preserved ginger, surprising me, it was appetising. Then I ordered another starter — Marinated Goose Meat Roll before the main and I think this is good worth a round of applause. For the main course — the crystal king prawn is a signature dish as told, not sure, it could be better:)

Make a reservation ahead of time! They don’t have many tables but it’s always packed because it’s amazing! Also, the tables are placed close to each other, so don’t plan to have a too private conversation in this place. One of the best places for dim sum and char siu I swear! Also their signature dish«The crystal shrimp with Chinese cured ham» cannot be missed. As I type, my mouth starts watering already… Succulent shrimp with the perfect texture drizzled with flavorful stock served with a piece of decadent Chinese golden cured ham. Words and photos don’t do it justice. Just go try it! Another must-order dish is the Chinese BBQ pork with rice. Honestly I’m not a fan of Chinese BBQ pork(char siu 叉燒), guess I ate some bad ones(very common) and I was scarred. But my mom told me it’s really good here so I was like what the heck I’d try it. I ended up finishing the plate of char siu… The pork was tender and flavorful, and the honey sauce was the perfect hint of sweetness, not to mention the rice was delicious too! On to the dim sum… Some of the dim sum was just okay, nothing to write home about, but there were four that I highly, highly recommend. 1) Golden deep-fried dumpling with meat and veggies(咸水角) — crispy, sweet and salty, buttery pork and crunchy veggies as filling 2) Shrimp dumpling(蝦餃) — this is really the best shrimp dumpling I’ve had, and I had a lot of dim sum in my lifetime. Thin, chewy, soft and not-too-sticky clear wrapping completely filled with tightly-packed, perfectly seasoned and succulent shrimps. They are not stingy with the shrimps! 3) Crispy sesame mochi dumpling tart — everything I love about Chinese desserts morphed into one item, how can I not love it? The idea was great, and the execution was even better. On top of that lengthy description, may I add buttery too? 4) Red date glutinous cake — We didn’t plan to order that, but we saw the diners right next to us raving about it, so what the heck let’s get that too. Wow! So good! I love red dates and they turned those into a sweet sticky cake dessert! If you love sticky food, this is for you. I’d love to go back again for all of the above and try some new ones!

If you ask me to recommend a good Chinese restaurant in Sheung Wan district, Tim’s Kitchen has to be the one. Tim’s kitchen has several signature dishes, including the roast suckling pig and the crystal King prawn. The suckling pig is no doubt one of the best I’ve ever tried. As for the crystal King prawn, you cannot miss this and you will never forget how tasty a prawn can be after you eat this one. To start with, I recommend the appetizing chilled marinated wood fungus. Sometimes they even give you a complimentary dish of century eggs with baby ginger. Other dishes I recommend are the sweet and sour pork and the fried glutinous rice with Chinese sausages. For dessert, the almond tea is really yummy.(When I say it’s really good, it is really good as I’m never a big fan of Chinese dessert soup.) Be aware that some of the dishes require ordering one day in advance. Check their menu on the website to see what you need to pre-order.
