The Boathouse

Petite escapade le weekend à Stanley, ancien village de pêcheurs qui se trouve un peu de l’autre côté de l’île de Hong Kong. Peut-​être 40 minutes en bus local pour le sud de l’île où se trouve une plage, un marché et habitent un certain nombre d’expatriés, locaux et endroit forcement fréquentés par les touristes. Marché avec bibelots orientaux, bijoux, meubles, souvenirs dans un dédale de ruelles.
C’est donc sur le front de mer que se trouvent un certain nombre de petits restaurants où soufflé une douce brise. Rien de vraiment très chinois et plutôt une cuisine internationale dans des lieux plutôt décontractés. C’est donc au «The Boathouse «que nous nous arrêtons sachant que l’établissement propose des terrasses avec vue sur la mer de Chine méridionale.
Le long donc de la promenade, c’est sur un coin que vous découvrirez «The Boathouse «qui se différencie des grands immeubles par cette maison de taille restreinte à la couleur jaune.
Une terrasse sur la rue qui né se distingue pas vraiment des voisines et un accès par l’intérieur pour accéder aux deux étages supérieurs ou se trouvent également des salles à manger.
Le bar est plutôt sympathique avec ce côté assez marin, bois brun et blanc.
La terrasse plutôt petite offre un agréable point de vue est se trouve être bien ventilée.
La carte est plutôt banale et très américanisée avec burgers et autres sandwichs.
Une salade Boathouse avec un assortiment de légumes et fruits avec une sauce à base de cidre et romarin. Fraiche avec pommes vertes, pastèque, mandarines, concombre, noix et feuilles de salade. C’est plutôt bien pensé et une agréable salade.
Quelques frites plutôt quelconques même si l’apparence est plaisante.
Mon Fish & Chips dans une pâte à la bière, accompagné de sauce tartare, vinaigre de malt et citron est franchement bon et né pâlirait devant une bonne adresse britannique. Croustillant, léger, finalement pas si gras et le poisson est bon.
Une sympathique adresse pour apprécier la vue qui propose une cuisine simple mais bien faite.

I went there only for appetizers and wine. Would have stayed for dinner if the service was better. The steamed mussels were excellent. Service staff were poorly trained and no where to be found during my stay. It has a very nice location and view if the harbor, this could be a nice romantic place for dinner if they improve their service. Price is average.

One of my favorite restaurants in Stanley. I think it is quite sharp with its sky blue exterior along the main street. Go early with a reservation to enjoy some peace and quiet (it is quite popular among tourists…) Ask for balcony seats when you make your reservations.
I always order the mussels in garlic cream sauce. The mussels are usually plump and juicy and I love dipping the garlic bread in the sauce. If I had to complain, there is never enough bread so we always order another as a side.
The seafood platter is also very pleasing to the eyes and looks great in pictures. Nevertheless, I think you can get better value for the money elsewhere.
Open a bottle of wine and enjoy a relaxing morning with your buddies!

The Boathouse Hong Kong in Stanley, is really not the same as The BoatHouse Restaurant in vancouver. Though both boast an ocean view with patio, not all the bells and whistles exist for this dated restaurant in Stanley. It is located beside the Pickled Pelican, which usually is jammed action packed. As such was the case on this particular day, that we went next door only to be deeply disappointed.
Dear old paint needs a face lift and table clothes appears to be uncleaned. Crumbs and stains throughout, while the tables were sticky. Services were slow and spotty.
A beer is a bear and there is not complaints here… or so you think. An ice cold glass would be much appreciated as opposed to the warm sleeve. For crying out loud the heat was sweltering about 30C and I can’t even enjoy a decent Tsing Tao in a Carlsberg glass.
Seafood Chowder: A salty mess with barely a morsel in sight.
