SOGO Hong Kong

Always a great shopping experience. I can’t pass through Hong Kong without a stop here. I like the kitchen wares floor, lots of demonstrations going on and unique gadgets. I’ve bought everything here from bedding, to cloths to cologne and yes kitchen gadgets including my good knives. Again they are very helpful and patient and a pleasure to shop here.

Upmarket shopping at SOGO with designer brands. Each level is dedicated to different things like sporting wear, handbags, children’s clothes /​toys etc. there is an extensive selection of goods. Service is also very good. But you are paying a premium for the goods.

I grew up in Causeway Bay most of my childhood! When we want to wait for someone! We always said, ‘Let’s meet up at Sogo front door!’ You will never miss it! What a landmark in HK island! I used to buy my toys, clothes, stationaries, lunch and dinner, etc … However, I haven’t been back to HK for 5 yrs. When I saw the Sogo recently, I was almost in tears! Packed of mainlanders tourists pushed me! Full of mainlander tourists packing the luggage in the middle of the road! Couldn’t understand why can’t they pack their luggage back their hotel? The lobby and the first bottom floors are all about cosmetic counters but I can never walk close to the counters cuz it was way too crowded and they only serve mainlanders? Because I don’t carry a luggage? I felt like Sogo is a war zone now! Does not have any comfort and not enjoy shopping there! I ended up went to the toy level and bought some Sanrio toys there! I went to Aeon at Hong Yee the next day, they have more stuff and less crowded! The sales lady at Aeon served me really nice than Sogo!
Get away Sogo if they couldn’t control the crowd and if don’t serve local people and other foreigners right!!! The Lovely Sogo from the pass is gone! This is a War Zone Sogo now!

Ladies: On the lower floor directly out of the MTR entrance, you have two choices for bags. The super expensive (not for my budget) and reasonably priced bags and accessories. Food emporium is good. During Holidays, they carry a wide array of packaged lap-​cheong sausage, sesame balls and other exquisite delights.
Mens’ and ladies’ shoes — lots to choose from as well on the lower level.
SOGO Hong Kong is fantastic. Prefer this location to the one in Tsim Sha Tsui. The SOGO coffee shop on the main floor has exceptional service, serene atmosphere — and the cakes look good (have not tried yet). Coffee is great, they also have a variety of herbal teas — served in a see-​through teapot on a burner. Light lunches available as well.

Great department store.
Much more interesting than a US Macys or an Australian Myers.
They have a very eclectic collection of brands and designers.
I’ve found some great jackets here that I’ve never seen elsewhere.

Some of my happiest moments in childhood are connected to Sogo. That’s because its toy department is one of the largest and best in Hong Kong.
Remember those Japanese die cast Tomica cars? Sogo used to have a wall of them, along with train sets and other miniatures that kids then so sought after. It’s a much smaller collection now.
The basement holds another surprise: vignettes of cakes, chocolates and all sorts of diabetic inducing goodness awaits. Welcome to the premium food mart, where visitor of all ages would delight in the delights on offer: Beard Papa cream puffs, Lucullus chocolates, KeeWah moon cakes and so much more.
The Causeway Bay MTR station connects directly with the store so there’s no need to see daylight whatsoever.

I agree with SOGO crossing akin to Shibuya crossing. food court down below but never been particularly impressed with the food there.

The Hennessy Road pedestrian crossing to the 29-​year old Sogo department store always reminds me of Tokyo’s Shibuya crossing. Coincidentally, the Sogo department store is very similar to Shibuya’s 109 Building. If you try cross the road during a red pedestrian light, prepare to have hundreds of eyes staring at you from both sides. The only time this area isn’t busy is after 2 in the morning — trust me, I’ve been there.
In total, Sogo has 19 floors of shopping madness, including two basement floors. Recently, I’ve always been visiting the 10^th floor looking for travel accessories. I always make sure to hit up my favorite travel accessory and anti-​theft travel goods brand, Pacsafe, to see what new products they have. The last time I was there I bought a passport holder with an RFID-​chip blocker. The peace of mind Pacsafe brings me whenever I travel is unparalleled by any other travel brand.
The 10^th floor also stocks great products from brands such as Miele, Samsonite, and Victorinox. If you’re a regular shopper at Sogo, get the Bank of East Asia Sogo-​VISA platinum card which offers cash rebates for majority of the stores, which guarantees huge accumulated savings.
Because of its size and the sheer number of daily consumers, Sogo tends to be on the overcrowded side. It doesn’t matter what day you go as long as you are in Sogo, it is always packed to the brim. Therefore, it isn’t a mall I visit very often. Whenever I do, I usually zip up to the 10^th floor and be out of the department store within 20 minutes.

Sogo is probably my most visited department store in Hong Kong. It’s conveniently located in Causeway Bay, making it super easy to get to. I think that for people living in HK, at some point, they’ve used ‘outside Sogo’ as a meeting spot. I know I’m definitely guilty!
Good olé Sogo’s got a little bit of everything, and well, a LOT of some things, like kitchenware, for example. My mother heads straight for the seventh floor almost every time we’re here, because for some reason, we’re constantly in need of new pots and pans. There must be some sort of a vortex in our kitchen I’m not aware of! The seventh floor is pretty much dedicated to kitchenware, be it utensils, chopping boards, or even exquisite china.
Sogo’s got you covered if you’re looking to do some clothes shopping too. For that, head to the second and third floor. The third floor is where most of the casual fashion is, such as brands like Guess, Chevignon and Miss Sixty. There are a lot of brands on the third floor, so the floor space devoted to each is small. This means that if you’re looking for an item that you saw in another store, you may not be able to find it here in Sogo.
For some reason, Sogo is always pretty crowded. The supermarket on the basement floor is probably the most packed supermarket I know — at any given moment that I decide to go down there, and I’m not talking specifically about just weekends or holidays, the place is packed like sardines. It doesn’t help that the aisles are really narrow too! Sogo has something called ‘Thankful Week’ twice a year, if I’m not wrong. Sogo basically goes on a store-​wide sale then, and that’s when it gets REALLY crowded!
Sogo is currently undergoing renovations, so quite a few sections are closed off and it’s a little annoying because some escalators aren’t open and you have to walk to the other end of the store to go up or down. This actually isn’t a huge issue, because width-​wise, Sogo really isn’t that big (well, that’s the case for buildings in general in HK — that’s why all our buildings are so tall!)

Sogo is THE department store for HK. Sure, you can go to the more local joints like Wing On, or the ultra high end lie Lane Crawford. However, for those of us how are middle of the road, Sogo is our best bet. If you are familiar with the UK stores, you could probably equate Sogo with John Lewis.
As with most department stores around the world, you can imagine what Sogo sells. They have a good range of home-​wares, male and female clothing, sporting goods, travel goods, jewellery, perfumes, make up. The store is even laid out like every other department store in the world. There must be some psychology to it!
Compared with local shops, so that is a little on the pricey side. There are very few discounts to be had, they don’t very often have sales. You are pretty much buying the RRP on all products. However, they do stock a very good range, so if you are after something in particular, it’s very likely that Sogo will stock it.
I also find the staff at Sogo a little bit more knowledgeable about their department products, so I often go to browse products, get advice, and then buy from a cheaper store. A good example is the electrical products, where i can have a good look here, and then buy in Fortress.
What I do particularly like about Sogo, is their returns policy. I find that many Hong Kong stores have a pretty rotten returns policy, stating in big letters on all their receipts, «No Refunds». I recently had an issue with some poor manufacturing of a product that I bought from Sogo, and they very graciously and very quickly replaced the product without any fuss. They took it upon themselves to replace it with the manufacturer.
Sogo also has a very good wedding list service. Having browsed many shops and department stores in Hong Kong, in the pursuit of a good wedding list, I found Sogo has by far the best. They have a great range of stock to choose from, their credit policy is very flexible, whereby you can replace any item with store credit and vouchers.
I think a lot of local Hong Kongers do love to hate Sogo, but it is a very good department store. If you’re visiting or living here, it is definitely worth a visit for a bit of a shop.
