I have eyed this restaurant since it’s opening way back but have never successfully persuaded anyone to eat with me. It is always packed with crowds but tonight I got lucky. Only 7 tables in front of us !!! The place serves legit shanghainese food tailored to Hong Kongers. it was nothing too sweet nor spicy. We ordered a sweet and sour yellow fish with pine nuts(fav!!), Xiao lun bao(famous Shanghai soup dumpling) and a shanghainese fried rice cake(spicy version). Dishes came out pretty fast and service was not bad. I was impressed with their efficiency! In terms of food, I enjoyed it a lot and would definitely come back to try the menu !

I’ve enjoyed all of my meals here and think that most of the dishes are good. Be prepared to queue

A friend and I were thinking of having dinner at either iSquare or The One — but the red rainstorm outside made that decision for us. iSquare is directly connected to the TSTMTR station so we wouldn’t need to go out in the rain — so iSquare it was! It just so happened that I was craving some xiao long bao, and that there was a Shanghainese restaurant — Shanghai Po Po. Compared to the others, this had the largest crowd of people waiting, but we had plenty of time so we decided we could wait it out and got a number. Why this restaurant doesn’t have a little screen showing what the current number is is beyond me. The poor lady had to yell out a new number whenever it changed, and even though she wasn’t soft, it wasn’t very clear because it was pretty crowded outside and there was lots of chatter. We got our number — 83 — and they were only at 51, but it was surprisingly faster than we thought it would be, owing to the fact that the lady was skimming through the queue numbers. She would announce each number once and if nobody came forward within three seconds, go to the next. There were many instances of people missing their number because of this, and by the time she got to 80, we just stood next to her to be sure she doesn’t jump to 84. On to the actual food — we got xiao long bao to share, my friend got a dan dan mein(the spicy peanut noodles) and I got the soup noodles with pork chop. The food came really fast — the dumplings were pretty good, though I felt that the minced pork inside wasn’t very smooth, if that makes sense. My noodles and pork chop were great — the soup of the noodles and the pork chop weren’t too salty, and my friend said that the dan dan noodles were quite spicy. I felt my noodles were a little on the small side portion-wise though. When we were there, the restaurant was super busy and there definitely weren’t enough waiters serving. It was hard to get their attention — the tables next to us shared our frustration as they, too, waved their hands in the air for a waiter to come but to no avail. Overall, I’d recommend coming here if you’re craving some Shanghainese food. Just remember — don’t miss your queue number or you may have to wait quite a bit for the next table!
