Guilty pleasures: ice cream at mid night, beer at lunch(not sure that qualifies as guilty but my boss sure does think so), having a chocolate cake after an 8 course meal… these are all things you shouldn’t really do but it just gives you great pleasure in doing so. For me, it would be a massage chair. Now most people would be thinking: what’s so guilty about a massage chair? I mean you pay good money for one(upwards of 30k in some instances) and they are built to be used a lot right? Its cheaper than getting someone to do it by hand or flying to BKK for a spa surely? Yes yes yes, you are all correct. Except one thing: I never buy it. I had been in the market for one of these chairs for as long as I can remember– and Osim is probably the best brand in HK at the moment. They are comfortable, they can in a variety of choices so that even the pigeon holes we have in HK can fit them and in general they are just a very nice thing to have when you are watching tv. So began my quest around town looking for one, at the right deal with the right price. This meant that everytime I went out to a mall, I would visit a shop, sit in the chairs and try them out. Of course you would ask for the details and so on but the deals are usually the same(they are a chain afterall). Then I realized something: I am basically getting a massage everytime I go these places… for free. I’m sure I will be banned for life from Osim shops but I am happy to report that their staff are more than happy for you to try their products and ask away. I was once left on my own for a good 15 minutes before they returned to see how I’m doing. Now that’s what I call service and I promise I will buy a chair eventually.
