If I could give this place zero stars I would. When I went there the staff was extremely off-putting and the food was terrible by any standard. I had fried chicken wings appetizer and bun rieu. The chicken was raw in the middle and the bun rieu tasted like tomato water. YOUDONOTFEEDPEOPLERAWCHICKEN. And IF you have something on the menu at least make sure you understand how to cook it in an edible manner. I was so mad I paid and left.

This is a very pleasant restaurant, nicely decorated with attractive paintings, and the staff have that Vietnamese sweetness. We are vegetarian/pescaterian, which may skew our experience. We don’t eat beef, chicken, or pork, which are in a lot of Vietnamese dishes. That said, we had the grilled prawn salad rolls, which were very good, and the vermicelli rice cakes with lettuce and herbs, also very good. But the tomato and crab soup was, in my opinion, awful. The crab tasted terrible, and the broth could not compensate for the crab. My husband liked it, but then, put enough hot sauce in something and he likes it.

I am absolutely thrilled with this little place on the 7th floor of the Sha Tin mall. I had been stumbling around the mall for a while trying to find a suitable place for a single person to dine on authentic cuisine at an affordable price. Nha Trang was definitely a winner in this case. After you scramble your way to the 7th floor and round yourself towards the back beyond the inviting dessert places, this Vietnamese restaurant catches you eye immediate with inviting décor. I lettered my way through the menu which is placed NY style out front and could not get enough of the amazing food pictures displayed. I was quickly seated and left to my own devices with the menu. Honestly, I wanted to order everything as it look so delicious however made my way through one by one cautious of my cash only budget. Warning! I ordered too much for a single person. I finally decided on an appetizer and an entrée as well as tea, however honestly I wish I would have had somebody to share with. In contrast to all other hong kong dining places I had visited, there is no complimentary tea served with dinner [as it is vietnamese style]. You are given a glass of water immediately. But aware your american touristness this is not to drink it is hot water to clean your utensils with [I’m still getting used to it]. I ordered the Vietnamese Lotus tea for me to drink. You will get about 5 cups out of it, so perfect to share, or, in my case, to indulge in long after your meal is done. Honestly, I wish i had settled for the Jasmine as the Lotus as a unique taste a little too bitter for me. But on it’s ownself it quite delicious and light. As an appetizer I ordered the Lemongrass Chicken skewers. There were three of them, served with a side of Peanut sauce which was very tasty. The peanut flavor was not too overpowering, the chicken was well done, however I did not taste a pungent lemongrass flavor as I was expecting, which personally left my disappointed, but did not take away from the dish. As an entrée I ordered the dish that brought me in, the Hanoi Tomato and Crab noodle soup. You will get a large bowl of soup, with 1 or two well done crab balls [dumpling-esque] and hunks of tomato pieces. This is over a noodle arrangement which is light and gives texture to the dish. I am personally still learning to navigate the chopstick and soup spoon dilemma, however I would like to call myself a quick learner. There are slices of european style bologne in this dish which I did not care for myself but they are easily taken aside. Warning, this is a lot of food for one person. Ask for a take out box you will have a whole second meal for the next day and definitely worth the additional $ 3HK for it. I will definitely be coming here again during my stay here.

Nha Trang is my Vietnamese restaurant of choice. With five convenient locations spread across HK, good food that never disappoints and at affordable prices too, what’s not to love? In my opinion, the best time to visit Nha Trang is in the late afternoon when they have their tea sets. Their sets are pretty worth it for the amount of food you get — for $ 54, you can either get the ‘main course’ and a drink or a side. Or if you want, save yourself the hassle of choosing and add $ 10 to get both! For main courses, you have the option of picking between dishes like the signature phở, cold vermicelli and rice with pork chop. For the sides, you can choose spring rolls, rice ravioli and salad, to name a few. I always go with either the spring rolls or the salad rolls, and the phở with raw beef. The spring rolls are super crunchy, though a little oily. The salad rolls are a far healthier fare and go really well with the traditional sauce. And the phở — so, so good. The soup is very well flavored and not too salty, the noodles are soft, and the beef is juicy and tender. The beef kind of soaks up the soup and it’s incredible — often, I don’t like the beef that comes with phở because it tastes kind of funny, but this one at Nha Trang is a different story! The beef is a little thick though, but is manageable. The portion is huge for an afternoon tea, but hey, I’m not complaining! Word of advice — don’t order the coffee. It’s the traditional Vietnamese drip coffee they serve you, and I don’t know if it’s just Vietnamese coffee in general, but it’s the strangest coffee I’ve ever tasted. It’s thick, overly sweetened and has way too much condensed milk. My suggestion? Add $ 5 for the young coconut. I was there today, and virtually every table within my sight had at least one person with a young coconut! Overall, this is a great place to come if you’re craving phở, or just looking for a nice restaurant that won’t break the bank. You’ll leave full, satisfied and with the urge to come again!
