I consider myself pretty lucky to have a solid spot for Thai in my very own neighborhood — really good Thai is harder to find than one would think in Hong Kong! I’ve only visited Na Thai for takeaway, but the restaurant has a lovely, dimly-lit interior. Because the space is small and Na Thai enjoys an excellent reputation across the island, I’d recommend making a reservation if coming in for dinner. I dropped by last night(a Sunday) around 7pm and the restaurant was completely packed! I’ve tried several different dishes over my three visits, and though it’s a «typical» dish — the Pad Thai here is anything but. You know how sometimes Pad Thai can taste overly sweet, be drenched in oil and sodium, and have a gloppy texture? Not this one, my friend… Na Thai’s rendition is so light, it practically tastes clean. You won’t feel like you overdid it afterwards, and they get the portion size just right(read: not the excessively large American-size). Additionally, I’ve had the coconut fried rice which they serve in a scooped-out coconut for even takeaway orders! Definitely not what I was expecting as the texture is rather creamy, but if you love the flavor of coconut then you might enjoy this. I adore coconut, but it was just a little too much a quarter of the way in. The sticky mango rice is a real winner for dessert. They package it so nicely, with the ripe mango kept separate from the compartmentalized sticky rice, so you can DIY once home along with the small container of coconut cream. Na Thai is now firmly in my regular takeaway rotation, and I’m looking forward to slowly working my way through their delicious offerings.

Thai food is the ultimate comfort food for a night in. We came here one day just strolling around the city looking for something to take home. We came across this little restaurant. It was really packed when we got there, I mean the restaurant was quite cozy but there were no seats. So we made a quick decision and went on to buy takeout, go home and eat in front of the tv. That is exactly what we ended up doing. We got a Thai green curry with chicken, a tom yum gong soup and a pineapple fried rice. The tom yum gong soup was good, but expected, nothing extremely exciting. Good amount of ingredients. The thai green curry i think would be the highlight of the night. I love those round little eggplants, eggplants aplenty in that little bowl of curry. The curry was really fragrant as well. As soon as we opened the disposable containers, that aroma of lemongrass filled the room. Nom nom nom. The pineapple fried rice was also delish. I mean, I am sure it would be prettier if we ate in and have it served in a half pineapple, but we had to make do. there were big chunks of pineapple and the rice was fried pretty well, just the perfect texture. I am so happy that there is this thai restaurant in happy valley, I think it’s the only one but boy, is it a good one! I haven’t been back since last time but i am excited to try their other dishes.
