MTR Kowloon Station

The most purposed-​built MTR station here in HK.
If you are hitting Elements for some shopping. Good on you. If you are living at one of those high rises above the station, this is the station specifically built for you (but hey, let’s not pretend those residents don’t have their own cars anyway). If you are tourists going to Ozone, here’s the station bring you right there. If you stay with W Hotel or Ritz-​Carlton, bonus points to you as well to have such a convenient station. You can have in town check-​in and go straight to the airport from here, luggage-​free, as well.
But, well, if you are the unlucky ones who used to work in Central, and somehow your banks (looking at you, CS, Deutsche and MS) decided to move the office to ICC at the dark side, then Kowloon Station seems to be the only reasonable choice. You used to drive you fancy cars from probably Stanley to Central, but crossing the harbour is another story.
Other than all of the above, Kowloon Station is a bit of a passer-​by, really. I went to Elements for lunch with an ex-​colleague now works at ICC, I did’t even have to touch ground. If you want to go to TST or Mongkok or anywhere in Kowloon, it always seems a bit inconvenient from Kowloon Station.
That’s why I said it’s a purposed-​built MTR station, not your general station where it connects to everywhere near it.

This station rocks, it’s huge, spacious and clean!
(1) It’s located near Elements shopping center, practically attached. Convenient for you to stop at this station and go shopping or eating with friends
(2) This station is one of the drop-​off points for the Airport Express subway/​train. I think it’s the 2^nd stop after the Airport, and only a 21 minute ride from the airport. Super convenient!
(3) This station is also where you can hitch a complimentary Airport Shuttle ride from Kowloon MTR station to the nearest hotel in Kowloon. There are multiple buses you can take, labeled K1 to K5. The bus ride is very short, likely 10 – 15 minutes and you’ll be taken to the front door of your mainstream hotel.
There’s also FREE wi-​fi available at this station, although I didn’t get to use it.

Um die Station herum ist derzeit alles im Umbau und daher kommt man sicherlich zu Fuss etwas schwer dorthin. Das ist aber auch weder nötig, noch ratsam, denn die kostenlosen Shuttlebusse verbinden den vom Flughafen eintreffenden Reisenden mit den wichtigsten Hotels und Sehenswürdigkeiten in Hongkong und Kowloon. Die Informationen über Busse und MTR sind vortrefflich, alles ist sauber und sehr transparent — nicht zu glauben, dass dies eine Grossstadt in Südostasien ist.

Kowloon Station is probably one of the most important stations along the Tung Chung Line.
1.) This is one of the two stations where you can check in your luggage in town and take the airport express to the airport– saving a lot of time and hassle if you are flying with no time to spare.
2.) This is one of the few lines where Tung Chung Line and the Airport Express both stops at, some people may opt to change here for the local lines.
3) This is one of the two park and ride stations that caters for drivers wishing to go as far as possible without crossing the harbor– fees are constantly changing and you would be well advised to check with station staff.
4) This station sits below Elements (one of the biggest malls in HK), the ICC (the tallest building in HK) and 4 different residential estates.
5) This station is big– spread over two levels with a complete public transport interchange that caters for flyers heading into town.
6)This station actually has restaurants inside (lower level).
In all, the design of the station had growth in mind hence the vastness of the station now seem diminished, nonetheless, I still think this station is a good template for all stations to follow in the future.
