As part of my review on Chiuchow restaurants, this one is probably the one with a bit of a twist. A) the other two are restaurants with an indoor area, ACs to keep you cool with bearable small wooden chairs for you to sit, b) the other two are not exposed to the elements so you could still enjoy yourself if it rains and c) you won’t have people gawking at what you are eating. Ming Kee is situated bang on in the middle of Tsuen Wan, just a block from the Lo Tak Court carpark. Its central location means that the shop itself is actually tiny, but the shop«area» is everywhere you see outside the shop– come 7 pm or so every evening you will see tables being turned out and little plastic chairs being wiped down(i say wipe but just don’t wear your sunday best when you go there). The tables are lined every where hence you will find yourself eating right next to people doing some window shopping or just walking by. The food is a bit of a mix– I would say that the Chiuchow food is more of «something it does» rather than it is known for; the«siu chao»(wok fried items) are the masterpiece around here. The added bonus of all this is that beer is served here and to wash down the food with a cool Skol or Tsing Tao is one of life’s better experiences. Yes you will get people looking at you eat and your dining experience will depend heavily on the weather on the day. Still, this continues to qualify my maxim– which is that the grubbier it is; the better!
