Kowloonbay Intl. Trade and Exh. Ctr. Cum Emax

Malls in Hong Kong fall into several categories– there are ones which you go to if you own a mall, there are ones which you go to if you work in a mall and there is this, EMAX. EMAX is a weird creation as it did not start out life as a mall, it was planned to be an exhibition ground because it was right next to the airport (Kai TaK back in the day). You will notice this even today as you go in you will find this location to be absolutely huge with relatively small number of shops.
Inside you will also find a mixed bag of shops: there is a used car centre down below and a shopping section that is aimed specifically at mainland tourists selling brands you have never heard of. On ground level you will find various restaurants, none of which seems to offer anything enticing. Upstairs the same story continues, shops are dotted around the vast building and some rather uninteresting food outlets seem to prevail.
The only saving grace here is the new cinema which provides somewhere to get tickets for really new releases. I say this place is strange in the sense that I do not know who they are trying to cater to (apart from tourists) as the shops here have no theme and seem to be randomly dotted around. This is one of those places I would describe as you will only go there if you had to go there.
