small and quaint restaurant located off the radar from the hot spot area in kowloon. the restaurant is opposite dorsett kwun tong hotel and the beautiful display of braised goose /steamed chicken and baked fish in sea salt will lure you in. as for me, the braised goose was calling my name everyday when i walk pass, so i decided to try it last night. and it was pretty good. hung;s delicacies is pretty famous and was listed in the HK michelin guide for 5 consecutive years. just like dadong roast duck in beijing, the shop is filled with awards and certificates from all over asia as well as usa, something the restaurant is very proud of. i ordered a «lai tong»(soup) to start which they claimed has no preservatives. really good with generous pork cubes, dry scallop and fish maw selling for HKD25. for mains, i ordered a dry noodle dish(i hate rice, btw) with steamed chicken in aromatic garlic sauce. i wont settle just for a noodle and steamed chicken, so i asked if i can add in braised goose as extra. my wish is their command, the waitress said mou man tai(no problem!). the portion’s just right, accompanied with a whole steamed chicken drumstick as well as thin slices of the famous braised goose. simple and delicious. i notice that the try to maintain very clean flavors to the goose as it is not too salty or overpowered by the smell of chinese herbs. you know what i mean. i am quite surprise that they only have one branch in kowloon(in kwun tong area) and not even in HK island. other outlets include at the airport, HKIA and macau. that’s it! so if you find yourself nearby kowloon east area, check out this place!

Hung’s Delicacies(«HD») is a cozy bistro, renowned for its Chinese marinade dishes; a culinary technique commonly called«lo sui». After closure of their North Point branch, HD reopened in Kwun Tong. The place wasn’t easy to locate; just lean on Google Maps to lead the way. My expectations of HD were quite high; the North Point branch even attracted praise from the prestigious Michelin guide! Did it live up to my expectations? Not really, the Chinese marinade cuisine is really not my thing. I wasn’t brave enough to try some of the odd dishes like duck tongue & duck chin and the vegetarian goose, one of their signature dish, was rather disappointing. The fried rice and noodles, tossed with the homemade XO sauce, had an amazing taste, full of flavour and with a hint of heat. Too bad the dishes were way too oily. A rookie cooking mistake that shouldn’t happen in a superstar restaurant. The oyster congee(= rice porridge) was a bowl of goodness; light, delicate, simple and heartwarming. The dishes of the superstar eatery are really reasonably priced and the friendly service should also be mentioned.
