A staple for good congee at a really affordable price! I like ordering the fish congee, but my relatives also like the beef one. The Chinese donut wrapped in rice noodle is also a favorite to order. Service is standard, not super clean but not like a hole in a wall, and it’s a restaurant locals go to so you know it has their stamp of approval. FYI: As you will notice at most casual dining restaurants in Hong Kong, they don’t serve you napkins and will actually charge you for a packet of Kleenex so just make sure you bring your own if you’re a messy eater like I am!

Hung Lee is a fantastic spot in Mong Kok to get your congee filling! Not sure what that is? Congee is rice porridge and is popular in Cantonese cuisine.
The restaurant offers an array of congee options, as well as some bomb soup noodles as an add-​on/​alternate meal. The menu here has both Chinese and English, so do not fear if you can’t speak Canto. The ladies here will help you with your order right away.
Between the three of us, we got rounds of yàuhjagwái (fried ‘donuts’), assorted pig parts congee, thousand year old egg congee, and brisket soup noodles. Each item was roughly HKD25−40, so everything here was super affordable. Food came out fast and delicious.
If you’re looking for a low-​key place to grab some Cantonese grub, this is the place!

This place is all about the congee. You can have it many ways. Opens early enough (7 an) that this is one of my Chinese breakfast stops. Stick to the congee as that is their specialty. Fast and friendly.
