Its actually quite hard to find a quiet place in Hong Kong: fact. Its even harder to find a quiet mall in Hong Kong: fact also. Cyberport is something that bucks both of these facts. The location has something to do with it in the sense that this is not the easiest place to get to as it is on the South West coast of Hong Kong Island in Pok Fu Lam. Further to this is that this development has fallen far short of what it was expected from it hence they are at a fraction of the occupancy rate of what they were expecting. Would you go there? Depends. If you drive and you were looking for somewhere to watch a film, just lounge about with the kids or a quiet lunch then yes this could very much be the place for you. Its clean, its big and its a new place so everything is very well thought out. Only that theres not much to do. There are a number of restaurants on offer at the mall itself and an even smaller number of shops. It does the job of providing shops to the the Bel-air development but that’s about that. The cinema is a good place for drivers in the sense that it offers free parking for moviegoers which is rare in Hong Kong. In all, if you do want a quiet weekend with the kids with no particular aim in mind; this is worth a visit.

I don’t think I’ve been to the Cyberport Arcade more than five times in my life — the first time to watch a movie, and the subsequent few times because I tutor a kid who lives at Cyberport and if I arrive early, I walk around there(mostly at the Parknshop International) before it’s almost time. Cyberport Arcade is basically 90% furniture and home decoration stores. There’s your G.O.D., Indigo, and a couple of smaller stores selling things like lighting appliances and kids’ toys and furniture. There’s one clothing store that I wanted to go into but couldn’t figure out the entrance(it sounds harder than it is! From where I was standing, I could only see the back of the store with no door in sight), and that’s it. The mall is extremely quiet — and it’s pretty obvious why. There’s really no reason to come here unless you have just moved in to Bel-air and need furniture, or if you want to catch a movie. Speaking of which, I watched Monsters University with my friends here because it was the only cinema that showed it in English and in 2D(3D hurts our eyes). The concession stand area was almost empty and we didn’t even have to wait in line to get snacks. The house was pretty empty too — I think my friends and I were three out of fifteen people or so in there. There are a couple of restaurants in the Arcade though, but not many. I had an early dinner with my friends after the movie at Oh Sushi, which just like the rest of the mall, was almost empty except for a table or two. The food surprisingly wasn’t bad though and service was good. Overall, the Cyberport Arcade is almost a ghost town of a mall. The only saving grace is the cinema, which is super empty most of the time so if you’re looking to catch a movie and don’t want to be stuck in the first few rows and leave with a sore neck, check out the Cyberport cinema. If you’re coming from Causeway Bay, take the 69X outside Sogo. This is the most efficient minibus route I’ve ever been on actually because it barely stops between Sogo and Cyberport, so you’ll be here in fifteen minutes flat! Otherwise, even if you happen to be in the area, are curious about what’s in the mall and want to go in, save yourself the trouble!
