This restaurant offers wonderful food in delightful environs. We ordered the 5 course set meal, which included a soup, fried termite mushrooms, sweet and sour wheat gluten, watercress, and agarics with chestnuts in brown sauce. The meal also included tea, rice, and fruit. I especially enjoyed the sweet and sour wheat gluten. I was pleasantly surprised — I am usually wary of sweet and sour dishes, as they often come up goopy, cloyingly sweet, or imbalanced in some other way. This dish blew my preconceptions out of the water, offering balanced flavors and crisp yet chewy wheat gluten. I also really liked the termite mushrooms, which were delicately battered and fried to perfection. Those were the highlights, but in truth, the entire meal was superb. Although the meal was pricier than most meals we’ve had in Hong Kong, we found this to be some of the cleanest, tastiest, and most wholesome food we’ve had during our stay. Note: reservations are highly recommended, as they fill up their dining room quickly. However, it is possible to get a seat as a walk-in, if you’re lucky. We happened to be lucky and were able to get seating for two without prior reservation.

Pretty darn good. Minimum HKD120 per person is ok, it’s like 17USD each. Try to be seated on the first floor, where you get a view of the waterfall of water wheel out the window. My friend ordered the lunch set, which gets you a variety of dishes, each uniquely flavored and tasty. But I mistakenly ordered off the main course menu and got a huge family style plate of Singapore curry rice noodles($ 88) and stir fried vegetables($ 78) for myself. Don’t do that. Both were ok, and the former were more noodle than interesting flavor. As for dessert, do try the cashew and peach resin. Thickly nutty and sweet. It’s like peanut butter soup.

Vegetarians, this is a decent place to go to. This is a rather difficult place for me to review, with pros and cons. Pros — good place to bring a date, this restaurant is in the middle of a garden, similar to Boat House in Central Park NYC. You can take an after dinner stroll in the beautiful park. Two sides of the restaurant windows have waterfalls right outside the window. So if you get a window spot, it is spectacular. Cons — you must spend a minimum of $ 150 per person for dinner, slightly less for lunch, I think they are trying to target a specific crowd. The food is quite pricey We had four dishes for 2 people. We had the sweet and sour«pork», they don’t actually say the meat name, but this is my favorite dish, quite flavorful and it’s a big dish. Had the spring rolls, the spring roll skin was way too thick, the filling inside was way too little. Had the mei fun, expensive, did not taste good and was just ordinary mei fun, don’t order this. Also had the sliced beef round, this was delicious also but was just an appetizer, so portions were small. You need to make a reservation, it got quite crowded.

Came here as soon as they opened for lunch and the place filled up in literally 5 minutes! We were in line to get in and next up to be seated when I was side swiped by a middle aged Chinese woman. She cut me off and proceeded to get the hostesses attention. Next thing I know, she is being seated at our table. We graciously waited as she took our table and we waited for the next one. Once we were seated, the service was poor. We could barely get the attention of a server to place our order, get our drinks, and pay for our food. The food was pretty good. I’m vegetarian so I was grateful to be able to have my pick of anything on the menu. If you are visiting the Nunnery you should eat at this restaurant at least once =)
