If you are hankering for a Burger while wandering through Asia, then look no further this is your Place! I am from Texas and for us Texans, Burgers are a big deal. When I came across this place on Unilocal I was skeptical, because most burgers I’ve had outside of the states have been«different» to say the least. However, this place has nailed it, spot on. I am even willing to say it is one of the top burgers I have had so far. It by far exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was a great vibe, like stepping into my dream vintage industrial chic setting and to think it is in the middle of Honk Kong. The Sweet Potato Fries were delicious. They had local beers on tap to try, along with a good selection of premium cocktails. The place was crowded but not too over bearing like most places can be in Hong Kong. Only critique which is just a matter of personal preference would be for the Chili Cheese Fries on the Specials Menu. Not what we in Texas would define as Chili, but even still it had a good all around flavor. And needless to say the plate was cleaned, so I can’t say we were completely turned off on their take of Chili. Any time I am in Hong Kong, this will be my place to drop in and get a taste of home/nostalgia. Explore their creative menu, you cannot go wrong. If you come across any of the«burger» options like we did making our way through Asia, then you will be astonished at how you found this hidden gem of deliciousness.

Well I admit I am quirky, but I do like a bit of honey to go with my Earl Grey. I ordered the vanilla ice-cream, and as an ice cream fan, this one is sweet and creamy but not really dense and heavy on the vanilla flavour. I like those which has a bit of vanilla seeds. The banoffee is A-ok, it could be smoother. It gets a bit sickly sweet after the 2nd bite. Staff is super nice though!

In a city where restaurants live & die by reputation, Beef & Liberty lives up to the hype. We had the lamb & beet burgers on a friend’s recommendation — both were amazing. I’m def a carnivore at heart, so I was unsure about the beet burger. I was so wrong, and it’s definitely the best vegetarian burger I’ve ever had. The lamb burger was also delicious, moist and seasoned just right. Fries, esp. the sweet potato fries, could’ve been crispier but honestly, I was too busy devouring my burger to care. Throw in the free beer promo, and B&L has my heart forever. We started downstairs in the restaurant for drinks & had our burgers upstairs on the rooftop bar. Great space & amazing food drew crowds even on weekdays. Service was friendly, attentive & fast(even with those free beers). We were there with friends for a few hours & there was no rush or pressure from staff what so ever to turn over the table. Overall, great place for a relaxed meal.

For Hong Kong standards, it wasn’t bad at all! The beef patty was a bit dry though, and my friends ordered medium rare and it came as well-done… Lol, besides that the burger didn’t taste too bad, but I wouldn’t come here again, tbh. There’s one burger restaurant in Wanchai that is definitely better lol

Great burger/fries joint right in the heart of HK. The staff was friendly & spoke solid English. It’s also one of the more rare places you can get Coke Zero in Hong Kong(though they did accidentally bring out a Coke Light/Diet Coke at first and it took a long time to get it remedied). Ambiance is fun and casual — great place for a good burger & fairly quick service for a small group. Nothing crazy extraordinary, but a good option if you’re in the mood for American-style cuisine in HK. The salad(yeah, I know, burger and fries place, not a salad joint) was fairly disappointing. This is what I get for trying to karma-out my burger & fries by eating something healthy. Next time I’ll just own it and gorge on carbs, salt & fat when in a burger joint.

This was our backup after the Vietnamese place across the street. We were pretty hungry, so this was a good place to be. We started with a drop-dead spot on scotch egg appetizer. Very nicely done. Then my wife got a burger and I got a chicken sandwich. Both were very hearty and delicious. The fries were my bane– thick cut with the skin. Not crispy and very disappointing. The service was good, but I didn’t think the atmosphere was anything special. There were also a few large groups of teens out on a Friday night, so it’s not the most sophisticated joint. So nothing too offensive, but nothing mind blowing either.

Good place to get burgers and beef. They have other mixed drinks as well(Moscow mule, etc). Good vibe. They also have set orders(burger, fries, drink). Came out to be around 170 – 190 $ for the set if you get beer. I would go back.

Can not compare to burgers in the United States. I got a sampler(chicken, beef and vegie burgers) with fries. The fried were good, but the rest were very odd tasting.

A long time friend highly recommended Beef & Liberty as his all time fav burger joint. Note: Both of us are from the U.S., home of the all American hamburger. So, we’ve had our share of the all beef patties. We were coming from Lan Tau island so we just took the MTR from Tung Chung, exited at Hong Kong station and hoped on a red cab. It’s upstairs. Love the open laid back vibe & décor. There was no rush to order as you’d get in a typical HK eating establish. We were one of the 1st parties to arrive, so got to pick any seat in the house. Now onto the food… We started off with a bottle of their hand picked selection of red. For apps, the sticky ribs and heirloom tomatoe salad. The majority of us ordered the BACON& cheese burger. BACON! Need I say more? Based on my taste buds, house made pickles and BACON jam, crispy BACON, melted cheese to my liking with all the fixins. The beef temp was a perfect medium. I savored every bite as I sipped my glass of red. My daughter ordered the kids sliders, protein style(butter lettuce). She wasn’t too crazy about it as it was well done. But, she loved my sweet potato fries, fine chocolate milk shake, and apps. By the time we left, it was a packed house. Highly recommend. Will be back soon. Took a stroll to Pacific Place afterwards to walk off all the calories.

Maby the best burger I ever ate! The meat was just perfect and also all the side dish must né made in heaven. The atmosphere was also very nice. Except the music which was a bit to loud for a chilled conservation. But I just can really recommend this better burger Restaurant!

It’s CHEATDAY!!! =P I can’t say more than what anyone else has already said except that… I LOVETHEIRCHICKENBURGER!!! Tender. Crispy. and ohh soo yummy. Just go for the sweet potato fries too! and while you’re at it, add in the Mint Chocolate Milkshake. Then think about the workout you need to do tomorrow.

Fantastic French Fries!!! The beef is good too but I don’t really like it’s texture. It is not what I expected, like a small and thick steak, but it’s still delicious. When I know that I can choose the cooking level, I felt quite surprised since the cooking level of classical hamburger is pre-set. You can also feel how sweet the restaurant is because you can get free handmade beer before dinning!!!

I couldn’t resist eating at a place called Beef & Liberty. The space is pretty swanky and my burger was excellent. Asked for medium rare and it came out perfect. The fries were kind of weak though… Beer selection was pretty good. There were a lot of interesting items on the menu that I would like to try next time I am here.

I know this may sound silly, but my favorite dish here is the CHICKENBURGER! I can’t even begin to discuss how much I love this burger! It is simply the best! I love it that it has the perfect crunch without being greasy. The meat is tender and juicy and the aloli sauce is to die for and has a little cajun kick! The only downside to all of this is that fries are ordered separately and does not come with the dish. I guess the positive is then you can order the sweet potato fries and then all is good! Hamburgers are rather decent as well. I’ve had a few of those. But every time I come here, I can’t resist not ordering my favorite chicken burger! Service is attentive and if you arrive a little earlier than peak times, it’s not too hard to get a table! =============== Review #172

I went there with 2 other guys and we had an enjoyable meal. Good friendly service, food enjoyable(maybe a little slow getting to us but we didnt care), but our main criticism(we all agree) was the size of the burgers — they are small. None of us felt satisfied at when we left — we didnt want another full burger but maybe another 50% more would have sufficed I think the restaurant is trying to attract people by offering low prices, personally i would prefer if they had most substantial options at higher prices Good place to go as long as you are on a diet– which is counterintuitive since its a burger place!

This place has FANTASTIC burgers, which would normally be a solid four stars from me, but what really bumps it up to five is the space the restaurant is in and the SERVICE. If you’ve lived in Hong Kong for longer than five minutes you know that service can be… well, let’s just be nice and call it curt. At Beef & Liberty I was greeted with a warm smile from every employee in sight. The space is bright and open with floor-to-ceiling windows and very high ceilings. I went at around 4pm and walked right in, no problem. I know this place can get busy and have quite a wait on nights and weekends, but if you’re not down with that, come at an off time and waltz your burger-loving ass right in. The burgers were cooked to perfection — mine medium-rare; boyfran’s «very well done»(gross ;-p). I’m pretty anti-bread and usually end up taking the top bun off at some point(because I fool myself into thinking that I’m miraculously being healthy by not eating half a piece of bread lol) but I gobbled this entire burger UP. The chef personally came out to ask us if they were cooked to our liking. I thought that was a really nice touch. The waitress also came over during the meal to make sure everything was okay. That NEVER happens in Hong Kong(or am I just eating at crap places? :)) We also ordered one of their specials, the zucchini fries. Holy YUM! Thin shoestrings of zucchini fried up nice and crispy with salt and rosemary. I could have eaten a couple more orders of these! DEFINITELY recommend them… but make sure you like rosemary, as that flavour was quite strong. I commented on their Instagram saying how much I enjoyed my meal later that day, and I got a personalized response thanking me for the feedback. This is a restaurant run by people who truly care about every aspect of their product! Dine and enjoy :)

While wandering charming Star Street last night, I realized my hunger had reached an intensity that only a burger could satiate. 8 solid hours of exploring a city on foot will do that to you. I turned to my Unilocal app and came across Beef & Liberty, which had earned a glowing 5-star and a strong 4-star review from two of my esteemed colleagues, respectively. Okay, let’s do this! On a Sunday evening around 9pm, there were only two parties seated in the restaurant which was fine by me as I was in search of a relaxed atmosphere after a day of buzzy experiences. The menu features 9 signature burgers including several that aren’t beef-based(chicken, chickpea, or lamb). But I knew what I wanted and beef it was: the green chili burger with its jalapeño relish, Isle of Mull cheddar, butter lettuce and of course the namesake chili understandably beckoned. I settled in with my favorite beer, Hitachino Nest White ale, and my burger was delivered less than twenty minutes later. Wow, what a burger! The beef was obviously marinated and had a slightly smoky flavor… the burger was quite juicy in its medium rare state, though the bun somehow withstood the test of the juices for the duration of my meal. The marriage of the cheese, the jalapeño relish and the lettuce provided the perfect combination of richness, depth, and crispness. I would definitely order this beautiful burger again! The only element of my burger that I didn’t enjoy was the green chili — it was served whole(and it was huge!) instead of being sliced as described on the menu. Ah well, that’s an easy fix as I simply removed the abnormally massive chili from my burger. The fries were also excellent. Pumped to return for their warm skillet cookie and cream!

There’s many places with good burgers and its hard to stand out just on the burger alone. One could argue that Butcher’s Club has better beef, but Beef & Liberty stands above them thanks to their toppings, sides and drinks. Unlike many others, Beef & Livery is a complete dining experience that is great in multiple categories, not just one. From appetisers like scotch eggs, to specialty burgers around the holidays(their Christmas one was incredible last year — more on that below) to drinks and shakes(the dark chocolate shake in particular), this is a proper meal — not just a quick bite where you feel like you have to wofl down a burger and leave. We love going and spending the evening enjoying the mix of flavours they weave into every dish and burger they make. Add on top of that friendly and attentive service and you have the perfect place for a solid evening that will leave your stomach full and smiling. Edit: I had to look up the details of the Christmas burger as it was so epic I got lost in the details. This was the official menu entry for what they labeled the«Sweet Baby Cheesus». Comprises not one but two 3 ½ ounce Cape Grim beef patties layered with the three Kings of cheeses, Colston Basset Stilton, Brie de Meaux and crowned with a Parmesan crisp, Cranberry jelly and bacon, onion jam and jus. We will also be offering the Sweet Baby Cheesus hamburger set which comes with seasonal sides of parsnip chips drizzled with maple syrup and a Brussels sprout leaf and pancetta salad.

The claim that Beef & Liberty has the best burgers in the city are incomplete. Including the very fine burgers at the Butcher’s club, the fare at the Butcher’s Kitchen, Diner, and Burger & Co in Taipei, and the spots in Xintiandi and Chaoyang, it’s not unreasonable to say that Neil Tomes’ Beef & Liberty has the best burger on offer in greater China. The bacon cheese and black pepper are just about perfect. The Scotch eggs, fries, etc are all very tasty as well, but the burger is as solid as they come.

Sometimes there’s a hole in your stomach that can only be filled with a slab of minced beef sandwiched between carbs. When that time comes, you would be well advised to head to Beef & Liberty for dinner. There’s other items on the menu of course, but why bother when the burgers are so bloody good? The beef is from Cape Grim, known as one of the purest places on earth. This translates to rich flavoured meat, cooked to medium-rare to maintain juiciness. I went with a cheese burger, served with ogleshield cheese, and it was a monster. I got a side salad while my dining companion got the fries… of course I pinched some! With beef from Australia and cheese from England, I admit to feeling somewhat guilty about the carbon footprint of my burger, but this was lessened when I realised that the sparkling water is on tap, rather than in bottles. While the service could have been sharper, the overall experience at Beef & Liberty was a good one. The atmosphere was relaxed enough to have a longish dinner chatting over a glass of wine and we didn’t feel rushed at all. That said, it would also lend itself well to groups of friends getting together for a celebration, perhaps over the boozy milkshakes that I spied on the menu.

I was a little cautious and took all the reviews of Beef & Liberty’s burgers with a grain of salt. The food came out much faster than expected, the service was super nice. But when I bit into that burger, it was like heaven in my mouth. The burger was juicy, cooked medium rare as asked, and flavorful. The bacon was almost like candied bacon, thick cut and complementing. While the bacon jam and BBQ sauce added that extra touch. The pickles were out of this world. For 122hkd I thought it was worth every penny. I also ordered a side of scotch eggs, which were okay but just reminded me of falafel with duck eggs in the middle. And their fries, which were thick cut, hot, and crunchy on the outside. If I were to come back next time, a nice bacon cheeseburger and pear cider/or gluten free beer on the side, actually any of the drinks they have would suffice. Just a tip, the elevators to get to Beef & Liberty is on the left side right in Pizza Express. Two thumbs up for their food, service, and atmosphere.

Beef & Liberty do a top notch burger. It’s served with BBQ sauce which I asked for on the side because of my general skepticism about this(usually too sweet) condiment. Though after dunking one of their perfectly crispy fries in this spicy sauce I was a believer and proceed to lather it on my expertly cooked burger. Their bun is also skillfully chosen as it remains intact and toasty despite the full on juiciness of the meat(soggy brioche this is not, my friends). Lemonade lovers should check their our their carbonated version with mint. It comes with a tiny thimble of simple syrup so you can determine your own sweetness level. I didn’t try the milkshakes(which are also served spiked) at Beef & Liberty but they’d definitely be on my list for a future visit. If you want a beautiful burger in Wan Chai, this is it.
