Bacco sounds to me like an upscale Italian restaurant, but it’s actually an Indian bar and restaurant in Sai Kung — about a 10 minutes’ walk from the pier. My friends and I were here today as we had ended dinner pretty early, and were attracted by the ‘weekday 3−9pm happy hour’ sign displayed prominently outside. Since there was nine of us, we had to be led upstairs as the downstairs was pretty much full. The upstairs area is only half the size of the floor below, holding five or six tables. We were just here for drinks so we went straight for the drink menu. There was an okay selection for cocktails, mock tails and beer and they were decently priced. Their menu was ridden with spelling mistakes though — Budweiser was ‘Budweise’ and Godfather was ‘Godlfather’, an extra ‘l’ in it for effect. In keeping up with the fact that it was an Indian bar and restaurant, I ended up getting the ‘Godlfather’. Our drinks arrived pretty quickly. It was my first time trying Godfather, and it was, well, decidedly typical. There was nothing really special to it — not too sweet and not too bitter. My friend ordered the Apple Shake mocktail, which was very nice and refreshing. Time flew by and before we knew it, we’d been there for more than two hours and tables near us, who were here for dinner, had come and gone. The service here was not bad. We had already had dinner nearby at the Thai opposite restaurant opposite(which, in contrast, had pretty atrocious service — avoid May’s Sawaddee at all costs!), so we were here just for a drink. We made that clear and the waiters let us have a look at the food menu anyway, which we handed back without ordering anything. They weren’t pushy about making us order food — I’ve been to places were the waiter becomes an instant grump because we refuse to give in to one of their overpriced bar snacks — so I really appreciated that. If you’re in Sai Kung, I’d recommend coming here for a drink or two. It’s no huge selection, but it’ll do.
