The overall experience was good at this small and casual dim sum restaurant. Be warned that this is not a restaurant intended for a long seating, food come fast and due to the small area, you are probably expected to jot occupy the table for too long. You are expected to share a table with others during busy time as well. However, Chinese dim sum is hard to find in the central Soho area, and good one is even harder. This place seems to be tourist friendly and he menu is vey simple. Food item added some modern twists as well.
I heard that their soup dumpling is not too good, so I have avoided that. Instead, I ordered sticky rice lotus leaf wrap, Siu Mai, vegetable dumplings and shrimps dumpling. The sticky rice was full of lotus leaf flavor and moist to the taste. Which I think is fairly good. As for the Siu Mai and dumpling, their meats taste fresh and firm, well wrapped and have a bit of sweetness. Only the improvement needed is that the dumpling skin is a touch too thick.
Also it has an interesting mix of fresh vegetable juice squeeze. What a funny combo. As a summary, I think this is a good place for such a western food focus area. It gave us an oriental touch to the neighborhood and will be a good place for tourist to visit.

A really nice little place where you get freshly made dim sum.
Worth to mention are the short ribs that you don’t want to miss… and the dessert ones, with mango inside.
I recommend that you take the big sample platter. Worth every penny!

This is a great little place hidden on Elgin Street. It has seating on two levels. The food is made to order and is extremely fresh. They have a combo set and it is perfect for two people to try multiple items. Next time if you are in Central, should definitely give it a try.

I realize this sounds odd, but it took me long time to find a good dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong… And this is it. One of the few places to serve dim sum for dinner, it is well worth it. I don’t really know what we ordered, but it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Nothing was greasy, and I suppose we Americans always want a little bit more sauce… it’s a small-​ish restaurant but most of them are in HK, I will definitely return here the next chance that I get.

I stumbled upon this place while trying to find something else around the area.
It looked interesting and after checking online it seems to attract some interesting reviews so decided to come back to try it.
For a first visit, decided to stick with recommendations as that’s what they would be good at.
Also noted that this place also has the same style pork buns as Tim Ho Wan. Tim Ho Wan is slight a bit better but this is a great alternative if you don’t want to wait at Tim Ho Wan with half of Hong Kong and visitors.
The staff are definetly a lot friendlier than the standard dim sum place (closer to western standards). And for those who don’t speak cantonese, they also speak English seeing the area is an expat area.
Also the place seems a bit more comfortable and spread out than Tim Ho Wan so for those who don’t want to be packed in like sardines it’s a plus.
My only downside is it’s more of a lunch and dinner place than a breakfast place (I like my dim sum in the morning!)

Came here especially, due to the good reviews, but it was a total miss for us :-(
The dim sum was so gelatinous it was inedible and actually stuck to the dim sum baskets so badly that it was almost impossible to get them out; they eventually broke apart because we were trying so hard to extract them from being stuck…
The quid was so overcooked it was like leather. The fried food was greasy and not very tasty.
We had several dishes and most were not very good; what we did like were the stuffed chili peppers though — they were at least tasty.
Not a hit for us at all… shame really — we so wanted this to be a hit :-) Definitely not on our recommend list…

Bottom line: A tad above average dim sum
So you are walking around central and if you are a foreigner you will be attracted into LKF and SOHO without knowing it. Then you’re hungry and thirsty and there are a plethora of options; great! After reading the menus you decide on {insert western food here}. Wait a tick. You’re in Hong Kong! What are you doing?!
This place is surrounded by Western cuisine and bars. If you venture downhill there are more options for Hong Kong style food.
Sui mai was solid. Tasty and steamed well.
Veggies in oyster sauce were not overcooked and I liked how the leaves were cut and separated from the stem pieces.
The rice dumpling with mango was really good! Not too sweet and very soft.
Overall it was a very decent option especially if want stay away from Western food but want a beer afterwards.
Last note: Service was great. The staff is friendly, helpful, and can speak English.

Ding Dim is a hole in the wall dim sum café. I use the term café as to call their location on Elgin Street a restaurant would, in my honest opinion, be a stretch of the truth. It is a row of about 4 – 5 table (depending on the configuration), most of which you can only sit along one side of, to allow the wait staff to pass.
It is probably better known as a caterer, supplying dim sum to corporate events and the like. However, those brave enough to cram in can also go to the «restaurant».
OK, so let me vent first. They have a habit of ignoring or doubling up bookings, so I wouldn’t even bother to make one. They claim not to have a toilet, which is actually at the back being used as a coat room for the staff. The staff are a bit surly (see pervious comment about bookings). Is you want a coke, they have to go down the road to the 7 – 11 for it. Right, breathe…
On the plus side, the dim sum is rockingly good — hand made on site with no MSG. Most dishes could do with a nip more salt, but nonetheless, excellent dum sum. I would go for the standard staples like har gau and sui mai, both of which come in massive golf ball size pieces. The spring rolls are excellent, as are the steamed ribs with black bean. Dishes vary from HKD16 for veggies, through to HKD78 for xiao long bao. However, most of the staples hover around HKD26.
Definitely worth a try for some excellent dim sum. If you don’t fancy waiting on Elgin Street in the baking sun, try the delivery.
