Restaurant-Cafe-Bistro Harun-ur Rashid

Rashid’s is located a little out of the town centre close to the university main campus, and has the touches you’d expect at an Indian restaurant about the place — splashes of colour, artwork, bollywood music chirping in the background. However the menu is as eclectic as they come. As well as biryani and indian curries, they have everything on the menu from thai to chinese and a category I could only define as «other». I ordered the vindaloo (asked for extra sharf!) which came with a little salad and really well cooked rice. Unfortunately, the rice was the best-​prepared part of the dish, with hot, fragrant grains not sticking together as gloop as you can find too often. The vindaloo was medium-​spicy at best (glad I asked for the extra spice), the meat was well prepared, but the vegetables were not so well cooked, with the onion being near-​to-​raw. The meat was delicious and spicy, but the tasty-​yet-​oily sauce kind of hung onto that, leaving the vegetables relatively naked, and sitting in a bowl of oil/​water.
But, the service was great and they followed up the meal with individual treats — a choc covered coffee bean and crunchy coconut ball (is what it was called!) served to guests at the end.
I’ll come back — its close to home and with dishes like the «Pharaonenteller», «Lieblingsspeise der Technical Chemists» and «Professor Dr. Gmehlings Spezialente», my curiosity is piqued. But I’ll hold low expectations and high hopes.

— They take bookings, and have a little room that would sit ~25 people as a partially-​private function room

In dem kleinen Lokal in Uninähe kann man nett und gut Essen.
Die Gerichte sind preiswert und frisch zubereitet.
Die Tür zur Küche steht immer offen, so dass man Harun-​ur Rashid bei der Zubereitung zusehen kann.
Hier gibts keinen Schnick-​Schnack oder Mini-​Portionen auf riesen Tellern. Hier gibt es ordentliche Portionen zum fairen Preis. Und man sieht und schmeckt immer, was drin ist.
Wir kommen immer wieder gerne her. :)
Im Clubzimmer hinten wird Fussball live geschaut. Meist sind viele Werder-​Fans da aber nobody is perfect :)

Ein Familienunternehmen. Auf jeden Fall kocht hier der Chef selber und seine Frau bedient (zumindest immer, wenn ich da war). Das Essen ist manchmal ungewöhnlich, vermutlich weil er Inder (?) ist und neben indisch auch chinesisch anbietet. Aber da er ein guter Koch ist und alles mit Liebe zu machen scheint, schmeckt es wirklich sehr sehr gut!
Mittagskarte gibts auch und es ist meist einiges los, was auch für den Koch und die nette Bedienung spricht :-)

Der Service ist super, das Essen total lecker und die Preise absolut angemessen. Der einzige Nachteil ist, dass das Restaurant relativ klein ist. Dadurch riecht man sehr nach Essen, wenn man dort eine Weile sitzt. Man kann alles auch zum Mitnehmen bestellen. Die Portionen sind dann genauso riesig und der Geschmack natürlich auch gleichbleibend spitze!
