Max & Milian Buchladen

Max & Milian ist ein schwuler & lesbischer Buchladen. Ich schreib’ das direkt so plakativ an den Anfang, weil ich ihn genau für diese Ausrichtung so schätze, obwohl dort natürlich auch alles völlig Mann&Frauliche und gänzlich Ungeschlechtliche bestellt werden kann, was so gelesen werden mag. Ich habe die Buchhandlung anlässlich ihres Standes bei der Internationalen Friedenskonferenz entdeckt, wo sie als Förderer im Vorsaal harrten. Obwohl es zu diesem Anlass natürlich eh besonders politisch zuging, hat mich die Auswahl an aussergewöhnlichen, kritischen und gut aueinander abgestimmten ZustandsHinterfrageBüchern dort so beeindruckt, dass ich mich — dem anderen Geschlecht zugetan, aber gemässigt feministisch sozialisiert — auf zu Max & Milians Ladenlokal gemacht habe.
Meine Verwirrung ob des Namens war schnell aufgeklärt: In seiner weiblichen Fassung heißt er Maude&Miriam. Recht so. Die beiden Buchladenführenden, Rolf Klaiber und Jan Kowalczyk, nehmen sich jedem aus freundlichste an und verfügen über ein kapitales Wissen alles Geschriebenen. Vor der Tür empfangen einen schon geniale Postkarten und alles Mögliche an Infomaterial, und das klitzekleine Schaufenster steckt immer voller bibliophiler Überraschungen. Schwule und Lesbische Literatur stehen getrennt, aber Klassisches, neben Modernem, neben Trash in schönster Harmonie — und es gibt sogar ein Fächlein zur Bi-​Literatur, das wahrscheinlich ob ihres inherent-​schnöden Oppotunismus aber eben schmal ausfällt.
Angenehm: Die unaufdringlich, aber deutlich wahrnehmbare kritisch-​politische Atmosphäre. Hier kann man diskutieren und seine Meinung sagen, und das gefällt, egal mit welcher Ausprägung des seltsamen Tieres Mensch man gern die intimeren Momente des Lebens teilt. Ein augenöffnender, mutiger Buchladen im doch oft zugeknöpft-​engstirnigen München, den es zu unterstützen gilt.

Max + Milian Buchladen is a charming cosy gay and lesbian bookshop located in the glockenbach quarter of Munich. There is a real charm of this cosy bookshop, it has the feeling of time and here you can let time pass you by. The atmosphere is relaxed, calm and gentle.
It is not like one of those large chains, it is not huge nor can you buy coffee or snacks, but here you really get the sense of a personal touch, it is individual and indeed it is unique.
As you walk in and let the door close behind hearing a bell, the owner of the store is there to greet you, always at helping hand with a warm yet caring smile, anything you need he will do his best to help you out.
The front of the shop is dedicated to photography, art, musical, gay literature both in German and English, music and DVDs.
The rear of the shop holds a collection of lifestyle magazines printed in Germany, France, United Kingdom and USA, medical books and large section dedicated to the lesbian customer. In the midst of all the books lies a beat up old black two seated sofa and once you sink into it, you really don’t want to get out.
Yes this is the shop that lets time slip calmly by while enjoying a good book and observing the little cute charming book shop in the middle of a large city.
