Bratwurst Glöckl am Dom

Out of various beer gardens I have been to in my trip to Munich, this one brings home the money.
Be careful, there is another beer garden right next to it, I accidentally sat down at a table of the wrong beer garden. Oops. Thankfully this was not a significant issue, I think it happens often enough that the waiters are quite forgiving.
Moving on… I ordered a sausage platter (comes with sauerkraut) and a half liter of dark Augustiner Beer.
Sausages were the best I had had during my short stay in Munich. They were varied, and tasted like it. They were also not overly salty, nor had they absorbed too much of the «sauer» from the kraut, as tends to happen in some places.
Sauerkraut was, well, sauer. Unfortunately, sauerkraut is not my favorite food, so I can say it was alight. I did not deduct any points for this, because this is solely based on a personal taste, and not anything wrong with the restaurant.
I also was a big fan of the fact that there were two mustard on the table, a spicy one, and a sweet one. There are some other places **cough cough** Hofbrauhaus **cough cough** that give you a packet of mustard. If you are a condiment lover, you will need to track down a waiter and wait for another packet (which you may be charged for). Try different mustard with different sausages, and even try mixing the two.
Augustiner dark beer was great, as Augustiner beer often is.
A little pricey, but not extremely so. You get what you pay for. Service was just a touch slow.
Final note: you may end up being seated with, or having seated with you people you don’t know. Interesting way of meeting people for sure.

Solid traditional Bavarian fare. I recommend the grilled 6 sausage plater w/​their potato salad. Make sure to try the mustard! It’s more sweet than pungent. Sausages are small, like breakfast sausage in North America. Potato salad wasn’t amazing, more liquidly than thick & chunky varieties.

As the name implies, they specialize in sausages. The mixed sausage platter is excellent. And for some reason, the Augustiner Helles taste really good here.

I ordered the mix sausage dish that comes with potato salad or sauerkraut (go for the potato salad; the sauerkraut was more intense than I anticipated). The dishes here are a bit salty, but pairing it with a glass of beer makes it a perfect balance.
Parking is a bit tricky here since it’s near the town center. Make sure to read the signs, so your car won’t be towed. It’ll cost you € 250.

Ich bewerte hier nur den Stehausschank beim Seiteneingang des Lokals wo wir uns regelmäßig vor Fussballspielen der Münchner Löwen treffen! Das Bier Augustiner aus dem Holzfaß frisch gezapft um unglaubliche 2,90 Euro direkt neben dem Marienplatz! Besser gehts nicht und man findet immer nette Leute zum unterhalten! :-)))

My favorite place in Munich for excellent Nuernberger Rostbratwuerste and perfectly tapped Augustiner bier from wooden barrels!

Da mich ein Münchener in dieses Lokal geführt hat, kann ich davon ausgehen, dass dies kein Touri-​Schuppen ist. Auch unsere Tischnachbarn straften dieses Vorurteil Lügen.
Das Bier süffig, die Bratwürstchen lecker (mit einer rauchigen Harznote) und der frische Meerrettich scharf. Aber der Hammer war en die Tartarbrote, die wir als Vorspeise hatten — unbedingt probieren.

Zufällig hat es uns eines Abends ins Nürnberger Bratwurst Glöckl am Dom verschlagen.
Die Einrichtung des Lokals kann man als gelungen urig bayrisch beschreiben. Man könnte sich glatt in eine urig bayrische Dorfwirtschaft versetzt fühlen, wären da nicht die internationalen Business-​Kollegen am Nachbartisch oder die japanischen Touristen, die sich gerade wieder aufmachen, um München weiter zu entdecken.
Außerdem war das Lokal an diesem Abend (allerdings glaube ich, dass es wohl fast immer so ist) sehr voll, entsprechend laut war es — allerdings gehört das irgendwie zu einer Münchner Wirtschaft dazu.
Das Essen war durchweg sehr gut — typisch bayrisch. Natürlich mit leichten Abstrichen, was die Originalität angeht. Es war alles solide und gut auf den Teller gebracht, man kann allerdings keine kulinarischen Offenbarungen erwarten. Zunächst schluckt man schon etwas, wenn man die Preise auf der Karte sieht — hochpreisig würde ich sagen. Allerdings versöhnen dann wieder die Portionsgrößen — von uns hat keiner seinen Teller leer gegessen.
Ausgeschenkt wird Augustiner Bier aus dem Holzfass — sehr gut!!!
Die Bedienung ist für Münchner Verhältnisse «freundlich». Das Essen kommt sehr schnell auf den Tisch.

Nachdem mich im Haxnbauer keiner bedienen wollte und ich mich an dem Abend für eine alte Liebe (Schweinshaxe) entschieden haben im Glöckl gelandet. An Gästen mangelte es diesmal nicht. Da meine Wahl fest stand bestellte ich die Ofenfrische Haxe. Darauf die Frage folgte ob die mit Sauerkraut oder Krautsalat sein soll. Ich entschied mich für den Salat und noch ein Helles dazu.
Im Allgemeinen schienen die Bedienungen etwas überfordert. Das Essen kam auch sehr zügig. Ofenfrisch ist etwas anderes, lauwarmes Fett auch nicht so der Brecher, der Knödel sehr fest und der Salat aus dem Eimer. Schweinshaxn kann man eigentlich nur da essen wo der Umlauf stimmt und davon bin ich eigentlich aus gegangen. Schon wieder eine Vorstellung über Bord geworfen. Es geht halt doch nichts über das Hofbräu. Beim Haxnbauer gibt es schwäbisches Bier aus Stuttgart, schlimmer geht nimmer.
Was gibt es zum Glöckl noch zu sagen. Ich hatte die Speisekarte ja nicht gelesen und fand den Krautsalat auf der Rechnung. Da war die Frage gut formuliert, ich muss mein bayrisch etwas aufpolieren. Ich fand das als Nepp aber da war ich wohl der Depp.

Found out about this place on Unilocal,thank you,. The portions are really big we ordered. Wiener schnitzel Munich sausage and potato dumpling. That was a lot of food. The food is actually really really good. We killed it all and were fully satisfied… I love the fact that wine and beer is cheaper than water… The waiter was not the friendliest but we see not a lot of them are. Overall I loved the food and the prices are reasonable. One recomindation don’t order to much the portions are big

Food – definitely not bad, though pretzels very salty. Environment – we sat outside, very noisy and there were persistent flies/​bees. Prices – reasonable, though water was ridiculous at 7 euros per bottle. I’m almost tempted to give them three stars but their waiter chased down my companion to return her cell phone to her so four stars overall. And they have an English menu which is a big plus.

This place was packed (tourists and locals), we had to go upstairs to get a table, actually to wait a table. We shared a table with a couple and a German family.
The food is very good and the portions are big!
Too bad the staff was unfriendly… not sorry to be a tourist!

This a very nice place with truly Bavarian atmosphere and cuisine. Our Munich friend showed us to it, and since then I visit it everyday during my shirt stay in Munich. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is spectacular. I like in particularly the potato salad, and the selection of sausages. Tots must have. I also tried duck during another visit, also came out nice & tender. Separate comment on beer with lemonade-​never tried it before, yet perfect solution for those who is not that into beer.
Keep in mind that they have a practice of table sharing. I am totally ok with that, yet when two other people ate the pretzels, they confused it, and included into my bill… A small thing, yet still…
If you come with huge company ensure you make a reservation. It is always full.

The mixed sausage plate was great! Friendly staff, locals and tourists together enjoying the atmosphere, beer and food.
They have multiple language menus available as well which is nice as well.

Go to the side room! Beer comes from a wooden cask and is delicious. The locals are friendly and always willing to show you a good traditional German cheer.

Wir sind am 10. und 11. Jan.15 im Bratwurstglöckl eingekehrt, sind an beiden Tagen sehr freundlich bedient und vorzüglich verköstigt worden.
Am Abend des 10.1. war die Bude gerammelt voll. Ich hatte für 20 Uhr einen Tisch reserviert, traf aber einige Zeit vorher ein. Da an «meinem» Tisch noch Gäste saßen, genehmigte ich mir draußen unter einem Heizstrahler schon mal ein Helles bis meine Familie eintrifft.
Wenn man so Gelegenheit, seine Mitmenschen zu beobachten und ihre Gespräche zu verfolgen, dann weiß man erst, was Personal in solchen Lokalen tagtäglich mitmachen (müssen).
Umso mehr Respekt bringe ich der Freundlichkeit und Gelassenheit der Bedienungen entgegen, die unermüdlich jeden Sche!ß ertragen, den manche Leute labern. Meine Familie traf ebenfalls kurz vor 20 Uhr ein, aber diese Baggage an «unserem» Tisch machte keinerlei Anstalten, aufzubrechen und uns den Tisch zu überlassen. Auf die Sekunde genau um 20 Uhr geruhte man dann, den Hintern zu erheben.
Das Essen war vorzüglich, nur mein Schäufele war etwas trocken geraten. Aber die restlichen Gerichte und Beilagen ließen keine Wünsche offen.
Übrigens gibt es im Bratwurstglöckl Portionen für besonders hungrige Menschen! Insofern relativiert sich der etwas höhere Preis in der Karte.
Am 11.1., ein Sonntag, trafen wir gegen 16 Uhr ein. Im Lokal waren zu der Zeit einige Tische frei, aber es gesellten sich wieder 2 Herren an unseren Tisch, die sich angeregt und deutlich vernehmbar unterhielten.
Diesmal entschied ich mich für das «Goas-​Bratl», das sind Jungschwein-​Wammerln, also gegrillte Schweinebauch-​Scheiben, mit Kartoffel-​/​Gurkensalat. Kosten: 9,90 €.
Ich muss sagen, dass ich schon lange keinen so leckeren Schweinebauch mit einer so «reschen» (knusprigen) Schwarte mehr gegessen habe. Ein Gedicht!
Da die Portionen, wie schon angedeutet, recht üppig sind, kann man also dort für 10 Euro mehr als satt werden.
Insgesamt ist das Lokal sehr empfehlenswert, nur darf man da kein lauschiges Plätzchen für traute Zweisamkeit suchen.

Amazing food, great atmosphere with history to go along with it. Ask a local what the significance of the place is, I don’t want to spoil it. Servers are dressed in era typical clothes and are very friendly. There are two floors to the place, so don’t just stop at the first floor, there’s more room upstairs. It’s a great place to stop for great beer and a bite before going to the Dome next door (hence the «am Dome»).

Nachdem ich keine Lust hatte, im Weihnachtssmarktgeschuppse im Stehen eine Bratwurst zu essen war heute mein erstes Mal im Bratwurst Glöckl.
Der Hauptraum war komplett voll und hätte ich nicht eine erfahrene Begleitung an meiner Seite gehabt, wäre ich wohl wieder gegangen. Aber es gibt noch drei gemütliche Stuben im Obergeschoss. Hier konnten wir auch tatsächlich noch einen Tisch für uns gewinnen.
Meine Wahl fiel auf die Käsekrainer. Zu meiner Freude gibt es hier frischen Meerrettich, der dazu bestellt werden kann.
Brezn stehen schon am Tisch.
Wer es noch nicht weiß: in bayrischen Lokalen ist das Gebäck am Tisch keine freundliche Gabe aus der Küche sondern werden mit abgerechnet. Also bitte merken, wieviele gegessen wurden.
Zum Trinken gabs ein Augustiner. Für Ladies (a gstands Mannsbild bestellt sich bitte immer ein normales Bier, es sei denn er will für Gelächter im Lokal sorgen) gibt es das auch in der Größe 0,4 l.
Meine Käsekrainer fand ich geschmacklich sehr gut. Vielleicht hätte sie etwas «oitriga» sein können. (Mit mehr Käse) die Nürnberger fand ich auch gut.
Es mag ja sein, dass viele meinen, es handle sich hier um eine Tourifalle. Ich kann das so nicht bestätigen. Klar finden hier viele den Eingang durch die Nähe zum Dom und der zentralen Lage und sicher auch, weil das Bratwurst Glöckl in jedem Reiseführer zu finden ist. Ich finds gemütlich, bayrisch und mit der Bedienung hatten wir auch Glück. Und es waren auch genug original Münchner vertreten. Einer saß sogar mit mir am Tisch :-)

Die Empfehlung von Kollegen brachte uns hierher. Top Tip, hies es.
Gemütliche Atmosphäre, passte. Der Service… nun ja, als Nordlicht muss man diesen «Charme» mögen, oder auch nicht, ich bin weder in München, noch in Köln oder sonstwo der Meinung das ein rauer Ton zum regionalen Service gehört.
Meine Bratwürste waren da, wo sie nicht schwarz waren, lecker. Der Kartoffelsalat auch.
Der Preis, kein Schnäppchen, aber halt München Innenstadt.
Hier kann man her, aber ich bin sicher, man findet auch gute Alternativen

Avoid! Pork too salty. Stale pretzel. The dom platter was a major let down. The lady serving us on the second floor was pushy and rude. I really felt like campaigning against it to others walking in.

Actually, that’s quite a good place for many reasons. The location is convenient, really close to Fraumunster.
One problem I could pinpoint (but you could guess it from the name), there are only Wurst (or sausages) which forced me not to be vegetarian for once, but the sausages are definitely good and you get a nice mix of everything (4 different a sausages) with sauerkraut. The service is actuelle friend l’y despote it being a «tourist» place, which is good news. We took draft beers «from the keg» which might not be literally drafts then, but that’s not something you can have everywhere, hence a good surprise for a very reasonable price. One slight setback I foehn was that the small pretzels which are innocently dropped on your table in a nice little typical basket are not free (that was to be expected, but still) but taste good.
That is definitely a place I would recommend during your visit to Munich. Tourist wise of course, I suppose the place is not totally bad either if you are local depending on what you want to have…

This place is as Bavarian as it could get and truth be told, it’s awesome! During our 2 day stay we went there twice and had the penne with chanterelle mushrooms once and the Munich sausages with sauerkraut plus a salad with chicken the other time. All food and drinks we were served was very very good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Also, the place was packed all the time, including locals which is always a good sign.
However, when we ate the Munich sausages we were served 2 sausages and as we were told later, it was only supposed to be one per plate — we noticed when we were billed double the amount of sausages which is quite something considering that each is € 6. The staff and I agreed that we had a misunderstanding — however, we still had to pay the full amount (since we ate all the sausages on the plate). As a business I would never shift the fault on the customers side by letting them pay even if it was nobody’s fault in the end. After all — a misunderstanding needs two parties — nevertheless, I would’ve welcomed it if the staff agreed to some deal but unfortunately they didn’t.
However, do not let this be a shadow over the food and experience you can get at this place. Well worth the time and the money.

Ich komme aus Nürnberg und schätze die Bratwürste dort sehr! Allerdings haben die Bratwürste hier in dem Lokal nichts mit echtem Nürnbergern zu tun ! Auch der Service hier lädt mich nicht zum wiederkommen ein ! Selbst bei nur mäßiger Auslastung wird man unfreundlich und nur von der Seite im Vorbeigehen bedient ! Ich werde hier bestimmt nicht mehr aufschlagen !

Richtig schmackhafte Bratwurstgerichte und frische bayerische Küche.
Das Publium ist bunt gemischt und die Einrichtung sehr historisch und gemütlich. Bei warmen Wetter ist die Terrasse sehr empfehlenswert mit Blick direkt auf die Frauenkirche. Der Service hat immer gute Laune und ist sehr flott. Geheimtipp sind die süßen Naschereien auf der Karte. Kaiserschmarn oder Apfelkücherl waren ein Traum.

Zwar ein sehr schön eingerichtetes Wirtshaus, aber die Essensqualität und der Service verleiten einen doch dazu, kein zweites Mal zu kommen.
Alle Bratwürsten bei uns am Tisch hatte mindesten eine riesige Stelle, die total verkohlt war. So etwas dürfte die Küche normalerweise nicht rausgehen lassen.
Als «Glöckl-​Platte» wird ein sehr kleiner Zinnteller mit 4 Nürnbergern, einer halben Stadtwurst und einer Käsekrainer bezeichnet. In der Mitte finden dann ca. 5 Esslöffel Sauerkraut platz. Dafür werden dann über 13 € aufgerufen.
Die Nürnberger schmecken auch nicht besser, als abgepackte von Aldi oder Lidl, die halbe Stadtwurst war geschmacklich belanglos und die Käsekrainer enthielt so gut wie keinen Käse.
Die Bedienungen reißen ihren Stiefel runter. Sie sind zwar schnell, aber freundlich oder gar herzlich war keine einzige bei uns am Tisch.
Eine kleine Apfelsaftschorle oder eine Cola/​Pepsi light gibt’s es nicht. Für ein alkoholfreies Bier werden 4,20 € aufgerufen.
Generell sind die Getränkepreise sehr hoch. 2cl Marillenbrand von Freihof kosten 5,90 €, die Flasche (0,7 L) selber im Einkauf 18,90 €. Das ist mal ein Preisaufschlag, der sich mit Nichts rechtfertigen lässt.
Auf die Flaschenweine wird im Durchschnitt auch 300% draufgeschlagen. Das erlauben sich sonst nur wirklich gute Restaurants.
Abschließend betrachtet bleibt leider nur der Eindruck eines teurenTouri-​Schuppens übrig.
Da gibt’s in München etliche Wirtshäuser, die sich im Service und mit dem Essen deutlich mehr Mühe geben und zudem sogar noch preiswerter sind.
Einen Besuch kann ich nicht empfehlen.

Täglich frisch gemachte Würste, dazu süsser Senf und frische Brezn dazu ein Hefeweizen — Herz was willst du mehr?!?

Also erst mal: Das Lokal ist NICHT Rollstuhl gerecht, wer das behauptet lügt!
Das Essen (Nürnberger Würstl) war sehr gut! Die Bedienung war sehr flottund freundlich. Was mich gestört hat war das die mir ein Schnapsglas Bier hergestellt haben… ¼ Augustiner Hallo? Gehts noch? München oder was? Bald kommen die mit so Kindereien wie in Köln…
Und warum verkaufen die Pschorr Weisse aber Augustiner Helles?

For such a central location you may be a bit apprehensive about eating in a German restaurant where the wait staff wear traditional dress and they serve traditional German fare. But look around, those aren’t just tourists eating here. There are plenty of locals here too.
And why? Good sausages, good schnitzel and good beer along with friendly service. And the prices are not likely to break the bank either.

Schon wenn man das Lokal betritt beginnt die Pause. Die dunkle Holzvertäfelung, eng bestuhlt, der Blick in lauter unterhaltene, zufriedene Gesichter und dazwischen die geschäftigen KellnerInnen, da freut man sich einfach auf eine kurzweilige Pause oder einen geselligen Abend.
Das Essen ist für mich legendär immer gut, immer heiß. Einzig: die Brezn sind a bisserl schwankend und das ist ein Detail in einer so traditionsreichen Gaststätte, das find ich schade.
Die Bratwürstl sind einfach a Traum, der Kren frisch und scharf. Und wo gibt’s noch a Münchner Halbe (Hoibe) Kultig, urig, wer es inmitten des Trubels mal münchnerisch gemütlich mag rein da!
Ach ja: 4 von 5 wegen der Brezn und weil die Bediengeschwindigkeit stark variiert je nach Person, was mittags echt Nerven kann

Es war sicher eine gewagte Idee, am Champions League-​Samstag in der Stadt shoppen und ein gemütliches Mittagessen einnehmen zu wollen. Im Nürnberger Bratwurst Glöckl im 1. Stock haben wir dann doch nicht nur einen schönen Platz in einer der wunderbaren alten Stuben, sondern auch noch eine völlig fussballfanfreie Umgebung gefunden!
Auf Anfrage durften wir uns zu zweit sofort an einen freien 7er Tisch setzen und konnten trotz großen Andrangs auch zügig bestellen. Dass unserem Tisch weitere Gäste zugeteilt wurden war für uns selbstverständlich.
Das Augustiner Faßbier war köstlich, war aber denkbar schlecht eingeschenkt, das Weißbier und der später bestellte Edelstoff (da aus der Flasche) waren dann sehr gut gefüllt.
Unsere Bedienung hatte zwar einen eher herben Charme, war aber sehr gut drauf und trotz eines wirklich anstrengenden Jobs sehr feundlich und hat uns gut bewirtet.
Immer wieder interessant ist hier auch das Publikum, eine gute Mischung aus Touristen und Einheimischen.
Gegessen haben wir die «Fränkischen Bierwörschtla» auf Kraut mit Kren (EUR 8,90 war dafür in Ordnung), die für eine Brotzeit mittags auch völlig ausreichend waren, sowie die gemischte Glöckl-​Platte, die mit EUR 13,30 schon stattlich angesetzt war. Aber eine interessante Mischung aus dreierlei Würscht war es auf jeden Fall!
Beides war schmackhaft, aber nix Besonderes (aber das sollte man bei diesen beiden Gerichten ja auch nicht erwarten). Wenn ich könnte würde ich 3,5 Sterne für’s Essen geben.
Insgesamt war es ein positiver Eindruck, einzig die mies eingeschenkte Halbe Augustiner (die übrigens an den Nebentischen nicht besser ausgeschaut haben) war zu bemängeln. Und die Preise muss man einfach in dieser Lage schon akzeptieren.

Also ich find des Glöckl auch Sensationell.
Wir gehen Ab und Zu mal als Jungs Gruppe dort hinein um einfach a paar Bier zu zischen und sich zu Unterhatlen. Was soll ich sagen, das Lokal ist einfach Perfekt:
Unten, so richtig bayerische Wirtshaus Atmosphäre. Die Bedienungen san durch die Bank griabig und des Bier, ah Traum. Frisches Augustiner vom Fass, ohne viel Kohlensäure. Herrlich.
Was ich definitv empfehlen kann, ist der Kaiser Schmarrn. Extrem lecker und die Portion ist meist für einen alleine zuviel.

Hier ist immer was los. Viele Touristen aber auch Einheimische besuchen das Bratwurstglöckl. Die Würstl sind gut, das Personal nicht immer das flinkste, auch wenn weniger los ist. Preislich natürlich etwas erhöht, weill hier viele Touristen herkommen.

I had the mixed sausage platter with kraut. Simple and perfect. Each of the 3 sausage types were distinct and I found that, while one was better with the scharf (spicy-​ish) mustard, another was best complemented by the typical-​Munich sweeter variety. You’ll have to figure out your combinations for yourself.
The ladies are busy, and seem gruff. But a good smile and a joke or two go a long way to wind up having a good laugh with the staff… and a free beer if yer a good boy!

Ein Traditionslokal in München, das kaum einen besseren Platz im Herzen von München haben könnte. Ich besuche, das Bratwurst Glöckl nun schon seit den frühen 90ern, zwar eher unregelmäßig, aber mit ständig wachsender Begeisterung… und die war von Anfang n schon hoch!
Das Bier typisch, die Bedienung zünftig und das Essen so bodenständig und ehrlch wie man es sich in Bayern wünscht. Ich bin immer sehr gerne hier, besonders zur Weihnachtszeit, da sind die Braten DER Geheimtipp!

Einfach schön da. Wir gehen am Wochenende immer vorm Clubbesuch auf 2 – 3 Helle und was leckeres zuessen dahin. Am Wochenende sicher gut gefüllt aber oben findet man eigentlich zu zweit immer was.
Bier einfach super, ganz anderer Geschmack aus den Holzfässern und des Essen schmeckt auch immer gut

nous sommes allés y prendre un brunch. Malheureusement la grande salle était pleine mais nous avons finalement pu trouver une table à l’étage. Nous avons partagé notre table puisque nous n’étions que 3 avec un couple d’allemands comme c’est l’usage ici.

— weiss wurst: les fameuses saucisses bavaroises type boudin blanc qu’on est censés manger avant midi uniquement (pour le p’tit dej). on a un peu triché !
— leder käse und Kartofel salat: un paté de foie très bon, avec une salade de pommes de terres allégée par un peu de concombre
— wiener Schnitzel: la fameuse escalope panée accompagnée d’une salade
Ce restaurant est un très bon endroit pour découvrir la cuisine typiquement allemande et bavaroise en particulier.
Les serveurs sont en tenue traditionnelle ce à quoi nous né sommes pas vraiment habitués.

This place is excellent, it has the veneer of a tourist trap due to its central location and slightly upmarket prices, and honestly it would be one if there weren’t so many seemingly local people all enjoying the traditional Bavarian fare. There were birthdays, after-​work gatherings, lonesome old men eating alone… it was a very authentic (seeming) experience.
Now on to the food — I got a sampler platter that had a couple of tiny sausages (their specialty, a cheese stuffed sausage and 2 bratwurst, potato salad on the side. I loved the fresh smoky taste of the small sausages the most. As for the brat — well, I am glad to know now that we Americans didn’t stray too far from the traditional recipe. It was definitely fresher and juicier, but the concept was very familiar. The cheese sausage was actually the largest single sausage, and got boring after a while. (I kind of wanted a hot dog of it instead of just eating it straight with mustard.)
They stock two mustards, a more run of the mill brown sort as well as the traditional sweet Munich mustard that you also put on weisswurst. Both of these are great.
All in all this place is great and I wish I could come back to a place like this in NYC.

Upon reading the reviews, I thought that this would be hard to find. But the reviews actually prepared me, and it was very easy to find! Just read all the reviews and look at the pictures before you head out. And if you have your phone ready with GPS, it will plop you right at the doorstep. The only potential confusion was that there were several beer gardens surrounding this one.
ANYWAY…
What can I say? Amazing. We started with a soft, mixed cheese spread (wish I could remember the names, but you can look at my pics) that also came with a couple mini-​gherkins. It came with rye bread, and we also ordered the pretzels. Dipping bread/​pretzel into the mixed cheese, and sipping a beer… heaven.
My wife and I then shared one of their flagship grilled sausage plates. I can’t imagine eating this on my own, especially after the appetizer. Yes, the sausages are GRILLED, and each one is unique in flavor. It comes with one side, so we chose potato salad. Reminds me of my (German) grandma’s potato salad. I couldn’t help but keep comparing. So good! We also ordered a side of sauerkraut and it was awesome as well. More «creamy» in texture that the stuff you’d get in the US. Smooth and not offensive in any way.
I couldn’t find a flaw at Glockl am Dom… maybe the ladies serving were a bit unfriendly, but… I get it. They lift huge beers all day long. We were friendly with her regardless, and she warmed up as the night went along. We didn’t exactly look like the local regular packs of old men with huge beer bellies and fancy beer steins. It was all good!
You can sit in or outdoors. We went twice, sat in once and out once. Remember that there is an upstairs inside. It was crowded both times. Enjoy!

Being busy didn’t seem to cause any problems for the staff here. I came because my Third Reich tour guide recommended it, and because apparently it was years ago a favourite place of the SA among others. I had had plenty of sausages of all types during my stay in Germany, and so I decided to peruse the menu for other ideas, and decided on Muencher Schnitzel, which is like the classic Wiener Schnitzel, except coated in mustard before being fried. Fantastic, it was that simple.
The server I had was prompt with drinks (and used a neat way of tracking how many beers you have, just writing on your coaster with a pencil as she dropped them off). I didn’t go inside to see the décor, because it was such a nice day outside.
I don’t get how people had a hard time finding it. Head from Marienplatz toward the Frauenkirche and you’ll find it. It’s on the south side of the church, pretty simple.

Things that are easier to find than this restaurant:

— Four-​leaf clovers
— Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross station in London
— Unicorns
After walking around aimlessly trying to figure out how we were going to walk through buildings, we finally found it by noticing a randomly placed street sign. I read about their mystical Nuremburg sausages in Frommers and I bought into the hype. The sausages come out on pewter plates with your choice of potato salad /​sauerkraut. Always choose potato salad over sauerkraut (I don’t know how it would have been humanly possible to eat the entire pile of sauerkraut they gave us). I went with a sampler sausage platter and actually preferred the cheesy sausage over the Nuremburg sausages (damn you Frommers!).

I swear everyone on the packed ground level stared when we walked in.
As that level was full, we made our way upstairs, which was more empty. We sat down and had to wait a bit for the waitress to come, and when she finally did come she was rather unfriendly. She even went up to a loud, spirited group and yelled at them. At least I presume she yelled at them — she looked/​sounded pretty pissed and then waved her arms in the direction of the rest of the room, and after she left they quieted down.
I had the weißwurst, which is a Munich street food specialty. (fun fact: according to Wikipedia, it is «greyish-​white because no color-​preserving nitrite is used»). The texture was too spongey for my liking, but the sweet mustard was divine! Dining partner had the Nuremberg (finger) sausages with sauerkraut, which was really good. I love how the food came out in tin plates! It seems we missed out on the more communal atmosphere, but the setting was traditional and the food was good.
And.dirndls never cease to amuse me =P

meine Stadtwurst war lau (direkt vom Grill?) der Salat, wie ich Ihn seit je her kenne gut (aber ehrlich gesagt sehr neutral…)
Das Schäufele war wirklich… LE also eher vom Liliputaner… aber schön kross aber auch hier sher neutral in der Würzung…
Das Bier war schal und die Bedienung naja, nicht schlecht aber eben auch nicht gut… Insgesammt hatten wir das Gefühl nicht wirklich willkommen zu sein…
Naja, der Tradition wegen gehe ich bestimmt mal wieder hin, aber di GUTE ALTE ZEIT is es nimmer!
