Heart of Gold Hostel

El mejor Hostel en que paré en mi vida. Ubicado en el corazón de Mitte, es ideal para todos los que quieran conocer Berlin. Solo ocupé las habitaciones privadas (con ducha pero sin inodoro), pero por lo que pude espiar, los cuartos comunitarios son cómodos y grandes.
Además de la ubicación, el fuerte del Hostel es la onda y la atención; todo es de primera; siempre encontrás una cara amiga en el mostrador dispuesta a hacerte recomendaciones o indicarte el mejor lugar para visitar ese día. Debo haber pasado cerca de 40 días en ese Hostel, y todos estuvieron buenos. No se que mas decir, salvo que si planean visitar una de las ciudades mas interesantes del mundo no duden en visitarlo si por motivo X AirBNB no es una opción viable.

Ich buchte ein Bett im HoGH da ich in Berlin die IFA besuchen wollte. Auch zur Messe waren dort Zimmer für einen Fairen Preis zu bekommen.
Natürlich darf man hier nicht zu viel erwarten. Stockbetten und ein kleines Schräckchen oder einen schmalen Spindt. Mehr bekommt man hier nicht.
Bett, Zimmer und sanitäre Einrichtungen waren jedoch weitestgehendst sauber. wie lange das so bleibt hängt allein von den Leuten ab, mit denen man sich das Zimmer teilen darf/​muss. Glücklicherweise hatte ich zumindest ein Zimmer wo Dusche und WC dabei waren. ansonsten muss man für so etwas durch den Gang laufen.
Diese wechseln zum Teil auch recht häufig. Da hier Gäste aus allen Teilen der Welt eintreffen, sind ein paar Worte englisch angebracht, wenn man mit seinen Zimmerkollegen etwas kommunizieren will.
WLAN gibt es keines am Zimmer, dafür aber in der Lobby. Personal ist sehr freundlich.
Da ein Hostel überwiegend von jüngeren Generationen bewohnt wird, war es für mich mit Ü30 nicht ganz einfach. Recht viele Ruhige Nächte hat man hier nicht.
Noch dazu liegt das Hostel nahe der Oranienburger Strasse. Viele Rastaurants, Bars und Abends Damen des Horizontalen Gewerbes.
Alles in allem kann man das Hostel jedoch ruhigen Gewissens Empfehlen, wenn man nicht Recht viel mehr will als in der Nacht ein Dach über dem Kopf.

One of the best hostel I’ve been in yet!
First of all, the staff is absolutely fantastic! Really, the nicest most helpful staff I’ve seen! They are for the most really edgy and know their music, which of course only adds to the charm of the place.
The mega dorm (50 beds) is not what you’d expect! It’s divided in smaller rooms, and it’s comfortable noise wise. The only downside would be the bathroom hygiene, only decent after cleaning.
The 24 hour open bar and breakfast room is really well isolated, so you can have loud fun and people could sleep in their rooms. Cheap drinks, good music, some evenings movies and football is shown.

First of all, this place gets major points for its Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy theme… When you use the bathroom by the bar, you can totally pretend that you’re flying through space! And if you don’t have an all-​important towel with you, they will give you one to use along with your sheets.
My friend and I booked beds in the mega dorm since we were short on $$$. I’m not a fan of huge dormitories, but I when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Instead of one large room, the mega dorm has several smaller rooms with a few beds. I recommend walking allll the way to the back — you can get into the only room with an actual door, plus you are right by the fridge, sink, and two individual bathrooms.
The bathrooms closer to the front are bigger, but there may be a bunch of people in there, and the shower kinda sucks. Also, the closer to the front you are, the more foot traffic/​loud people you have to deal with when attempting to sleep off your hangover.
Everything was clean by hostel standards. The location can’t be beat. If you are a depressingly monolingual American, you can get by since the entire staff speaks English well.
Tip: Follow the rule about using their bedding instead of your own. They check, and you will get called out.

I’ve stayed in a few hostels in my day and the Heart of Gold was one of the best. I think with hostels it’s all about the location, and this one is perfect. If you would like to find yourself smack-​dab in the middle of east Berlin then this is a great place. You are literally in what is called the «Mitte» or middle of town.
Upon check-​in I found the staff to be superb. Everyone speaks at least English and German and they all seem to be pretty witty and fun to interact with. There is a deposit of I think 6 Euro for the sheets, and if you ask for one, they will give you a towel too included with the deposit. Hostels never give out towels! Awesome plus if you are like me and pay the 1 Euro for a towel at every other hostel and leave it behind because it’s wet…
One key element of any hostel is cleanliness, and this place is clean. Now when I say it’s clean I’m talking clean rooms, lobby, and common areas. Now the one thing I didn’t mention was the bathrooms. This is why I can’t give Heart of Gold 5 stars.
The design of the bathrooms is a recipe for failure. They are laid out in a «U» shape with three different sections, a shower on one side, sink and mirror in the middle, and toilet on the opposite side of the shower. The only problem is that the shower sprays water all over the place and water ends up pooling in the middle of the room. This is OK if you are the first one to shower that day, but it’s kinda gross later on and they only clean the bathrooms once a day. Now when you are the first person to use the bathroom that day they are spotless! My recommendation is to take a look at the cleaning schedule, it seemed like they were cleaned around the same time each day, and use the bathroom accordingly!
They have some nice accommodations too. There is a 24 hour bar, don’t worry you can’t hear anything in the rooms. There is a pool table, music, internet area, lounge, and even a courtyard outside where you can eat and drink. If you are on a budget the courtyard is a really nice place to hang out with friends and eat a prepared dinner rather than going out. There is a free breakfast if you stay more than 3 nights, otherwise I think it’s 3 Euro. The breakfast is your average European style with a spread of toast (white/​wheat), rolls, butter, jam, juice, coffee, tea, water, and best of all this one even has nutella!
If you do decide to use the net café there is a fee, 1 Euro for 30 mins, or 1 for 15 mins I can’t remember.
As I said the location is great. If you walk out of the front door and take a left on Johannisstraße and then your next left onto Tucholskystraße you will find the Oranienburger Straße S-​bahn. Change at Friedrichstraße and you can pretty much go anywhere from there.
This hostel is also a 20 min walk from some major attractions like Checkpoint Charlie, Museums, Unter den Linden, Brandenburger Tor, Tiergarten, Reichstag, Postdamer Platz, and Alexanderplatz.

Das Zielpublikum ist sicher etwas jünger als ich, entsprechend viel Betrieb herrscht dort. Wirklich laut oder gar störend war es aber nie.
Der Service war gut, die Zimmer sauber. Kann es bedenkenlos weiterempfehlen.
Obacht muss man nur beim nahen Gesundheitsministerium geben. Die seinerzeitige Ministerin hätte mir um ein Haar ein Krankenhausaufenthalt beschert ;-)

Im Heart of Gold Hostel kenne ich nur die Einzelzimmer. Die sind nett und zweckmäßig eingerichtet und haben ein eigenes Bad.
Das Hostel liegt mitten in der Partyzone — Orannienburger Strasse. Also stellt euch af sehr viele Leute ein, die von der Flat-​Rate-​Party kommen und auf dem Gang mal etwas lauter sind.
Das Hostel ist sehr international, aber auch etwas anonym. Die Atmosphäre lässig. Gut finde ich auch den großen Frühstücksraum und die Einrichtungen, wie Locker, Waschmaschine, die besonders für Backpacker gut sind.
4 Sterne gibts vor allem wg. der super Lage in Mitte.

The Hostel is big, maybe too big, yet it is very clean, the bar is great, the workers are always nice.
