The Highlander

The sissie, bro, and I had been in Pair-​ee about 4 days and were sort of bummed about the rudeness of some Parisians and their attitudes toward us Yanks! And forget about getting a drink (a glass of water even) in less than 30 minutes. Service is practically non-​existent (unless your a native maybe?). On a whim we searched for nearby «Pubs» on our GPS and was led to this gem!
The Highlander is easy to miss, on a narrow street more like a back alley. On a dark and misty night it, it made us almost re-​think our choice for fear of being the 2 American girls accosted and forced into a white van by men wearing ski masks and being «taken» to do god knows what. OK, I watch too many movies…
On to the review of this place. It’s great. NO Really. The bartender made us feel welcome as soon as we entered (duh, she wasn’t Parisian) and we soon learned this is a spot where people who (GASP) don’t speak French like to come and hang out! Ambiance is nice, cozy, and pub-​ish. Both of the drinks we had were really good. And, there was even a Native there (a regular), and his big olé friendly dog, who didn’t suck his teeth or roll his eyes at us ;-) We were totally winning that night!

Great bar experience, especially for English speakers seeking a short oasis from foreign language. The bartenders are all incredible, very engaging and attentive. Highly recommend!

Much better on the inside than on the out, this bar has two floors! A regular bar and seating area as you walk in, and another bar and seating area below in the basement! Both English and French is spoken here, and one needn’t be bashful about not knowing any French! The drinks are good and moderately priced, particularly during happy hour. Come for Open Mic Night on Wednesday in the basement for a wonderful Wednesday night of fun!

We accidentally stumbled upon this place on a particularly rainy and cold day recently. What a gem. Love the atmosphere (rugby on the telly and a Brit behind the bar). Didn’t have anything to eat but the beer hit the spot.

Service is not a plus but the ambiance is great. My wife tried to buy JUST a pint glass… it came with a pint of beer as well.

A 2 pas de l’ambiance frénétique du quartier de Saint Michel ce bar né paie pas de mine, niché au commencement de la rue de Nevers le Highlander est l’un des rares pubs écossais de Paris.
L’atmosphère est comparable à un pub standard, la différence repose dans la déco.
Cela se verra notamment dans la salle au sous sol avec épées autres armes de guerre médiévale en tout genre.
Ambiance très sympathique, vous vous retrouverez dans une ambiance à majorité anglophone, le quartier expliquant cela.
Clientèle composée de touristes et expats notamment.
Au menu: les bières écossaises bien sûr comme la Belhaven regual ou Black et la Caledonian.
Le bar proposé également des hot dogs à 3 €.

English speakers: head here if you’d like a bit of an American/​Canadian/​English oasis in the middle of Paris. Friendly people and a great atmosphere.

J’avoue né pas avoir testé 1001 pubs à Paris, mais celui-​ci est un incontournable pour les amateurs de pubs, garanti 100% écossais ! Il a le grand avantage de fermer super tard (ou tôt, c’est selon): 5h du matin, rien que ça ! Parfait pour les soifs de fin de soirée !
Niveau déco, c’est classique, rustique, sobre et sombre, mais ça n’empêche pas le lieu d’être convivial. Vous pourrez y boire de la bière ou des cocktails les yeux rivés sur Skysports sans aucun souci.
Le staff est vraiment sympa et accueillant. Avouons-​le, l’ambiance est très fluctuante et dépend un peu (beaucoup) de l’actualité sportive. Autant dire dépend qu’un soir de match, vous serez sûrs de né pas trouver l’endroit terne et morne.

A quirky place hidden away in the permanent darkning of the rue de Nevers. Right in the centre of tourist Paris but with a feeling of Scottish isolation. An intriguing, off-​the-​beaten-​path selection of whiskies to reward the curious and discerning alike.

Worst bar in Paris
I never saw that in my life. Worst bar in Paris. I used to be an expat in asia for 5 years and I was shoched how they treat tourists and even locals. First time in Paris after 25 years that I saw tourist be super scammed in a bar. they order drink and 1mn after the security guy asked them to leave the bar in a SUPER pushy way. Now I am ashamed to be a parisian. I never saw so rude people.

Okay okay… yes, during my most recent visit to Paris, I spent a meal in a Scottish Pub; but hear me out, because the experience was an excellent one.
Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?
Wonderful. Sure, Parisian dining culture is sexy and romantic and the like, but sometimes? You just want a good olé’ fashioned pub, and that’s exactly what you’ll get here at the Highlander. Step through the pub door brilliantly positioned off of Pont Neuf and you might as well be in Scotland. That’s exactly what I was looking for in terms of an atmosphere to watch Andy Murray win Wimbledon (which he did), and the service and personnel made the experience exponentially better. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
I can’t speak to a personal experience as far as ordering food, but prices were reasonable considering you’re smack dab in the center of Paris. Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
Again, while I only had a few beers to compliment viewing of the tennis match, I did sample my mate’s burger. It was good, but could have been spiced up a bit. Single Star Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
You know, it wasn’t the best food I’ve ever had, but this particular event was so special (watching Murray win Wimbledon) that I can’t not have this locked up as one of my favorite moments of my trip to Paris. The atmosphere at The Highlander is such that I would easily make this my expat go-​to if I lived in Paris. Star Granted.

Allons-​y pour 2,5* arrondi à 3*.
Pub plutôt typique avec ses boiseries, sa télé branchée sur Skysports en permanence et son choix de bière très anglophone, c’est un endroit plutôt calme et convivial pour boire un pot. Caché derrière une arche à proximité de la Monnaie de Paris, heureusement qu’un panneau est disposé dans la rue pour indiquer le chemin, sans quoi on louperait facilement l’endroit tant la rue de Nevers est minuscule.
Bön après, ça casse pas trois pattes à un canard écossais, d’autant plus que la rue étroite et les micro-​fenêtres font que la salle est sombre comme le donjon d’un château des Highlands, que les toilettes sont franchement pourries et que les sièges mériteraient une réfection (voire un passage à la casse pour certains dont les ressorts doivent sûrement été importés d’Ecosse avant la bataille de Falkirk)
A voir en soirée, en tout cas pour la fin d’aprèm, il remplit son office!

Super ! Un excellent pub 100% Ecossais !!! excellent accueil, personnel sympas et tres bonne ambiance !

En 2012, le Pub a perdu son autorisation de nuit et ferme donc à 2h du matin.
Salle du bas agréable pour des fêtes privées, mais le «corner» Dj est exigüe et mal éclairé (attendez vous à râler contre le limiteur sonore).

i’m scottish and really rather proud of it… so when we stumbled across this place on our most recent adventure to paris, we decided to check out happy hour. the canadian (i think) girl behind the bar was nice — friendly and chatty if you wanted it.
the drink menu at happy hour was okay, especially considering its location. the cocktails are not great, buuuut for 5euros i guess they do the job!
cans of irn bru for 3.50euros makes me want to weep, but i guess if you’re in paris and desperate for some of scotland’s life blood, it’s good to know you can get it here!
there was nothing very scottish about this bar, but it was nice to take a break from slaughtering the french language (sorry, you are so pretty, i wish i could speak you a little nicer!) and just relax over a drink or two!

Un peu déçu: pas de choix dans les bières (même pas de bière blanche.), pas de menthe pour faire un mojito, seule la salle du bas était ouverte. Le micro ouvert aux artistes est cependant une bonne idée et relève le tout.

Love this place. Bartenders are friendly. Very fair happy hour prices. I’m feeling it for Michelle, Stephanie and Ida!

Check out their website for what’s going on for the week. Wish they had different types of beer on tap since they are all pretty standard. The bartender doesn’t put up with drunken idiots, which I quite like. The pub quiz is fun! A fair amount of english speaking people go here, I’ve noticed. Open mic night was great a couple years back, but haven’t gone on an open mic night recently. You can nosh on a hot dog or potato chip, nice to have an option if ya like
Open late, always open. Can be a little bit quiet sometimes, but yet, a standard, established place for groups of friends :-)

This is the equivalent of an American dive bar just located in Paris. Mix of Parisian and young expats crowd

LOVE this place. Conveniently located just off the Pont Neuf, it’s an ex-​pat joint with mostly Brits and Scots behond the bar. A tiny pub upstairs, and a more spacious party area downstairs, tucked under an archway in a completely atmospheric location.
We just do the Olds Folks thing at the upstairs bar, so I can’t review the downstairs — but I do know there’s live music, and party atmo.
The place opens NO EARLIER than 4:00pm, thank you very much. Do I feel pathetic hanging about in the Rue Nevers, waiting for someone to open the door and put the sign out? I do not! Because I love this place!
The pints are very reasonably priced, and that’s a Pretty Big Deal in Paris. They serve cocktails, as well, and there’s generally a special on. TVs carry futbol (soccer, footie) rugby, etc. You’re always offered a little ramekin (or three) of nuts or crackers to go with your bevvie. And they carry the most amazingly delicious beer — Calendonian — that I’ve never had anyplace else.
Caledonian — medium caramely brown — has a pale ivory head and tastes of… well — we’ve discussed it here, and the consensus is that there’s an iced tea-​ness to the flavor, but that it also almost tastes chocolatey! It is DELICIOUS. Not heavy — very refreshing. And not hoppy at all. Love, love, love.
The bar staff we have met have always been very friendly and helpful. We’ve made Facebook friends here, have gotten wicked good restaurant recommendations, and one night the manager (who was tending bar) shared a box of her personal stash of DECADENT little chocolates with me.
Finally, let’s be frank. I speak French, but it isn’t my first language. Sometimes sitting down and ordering a pint in English, and having a little craic (did I just say that!!! am I a complete wanker???) in your native tongue is just relaxing.
Like I say, this place is a home run.

I love the Highlander for going a-​wassailing, for dancing stupidly without feeling self conscious, and for hanging out with happy drunk people. Since Parisians never want to appear happy or out of control, it’s nice to be surrounded by people from time to time that just want to have fun and don’t care who knows it!

La nuit c’est cool !
Ce bar est l’un des meilleur pour les fins de soirée ! Il ferme tard et on est bien acueillit jusqu’au baut. Le staff anglosaxon donne un coté sympa au pub et les prix sont très abordable !

It’s not easy to find The Highlander. This pub is hidden in one of the shortest streets on the Left bank not far from the Pont Neuf. It’s quite small but the atmosphere is cozy and very friendly.
The staff is made of native English speakers. The clientele is mixed with Parisians and expats. It’s quite easy to talk to new people here. They have 25 different kinds of whisky and their Happy Hour is from 5 to 8 pm. There’s a little dance floor downstairs where you can listen to old and new.
And what’s more, it’s open until 5 am even during week days.

pub assez sympa dans lequel on peut admirer la faune locale alcoolisee. l espace est assez grand, on peut trouver facilement un endroit ou se poser et attendre jusqu’a tard les 1ers metros.

Definitely becoming a fan of the Highlander, where the covert expat masses come for pints and pigskin :) On NFL Sundays, the Highlander offers special prices on pints and well drinks, as well as a big-​screen projection of the game (s). The board in the alley (which reminds me a bit of Diagon Alley?) boasts a trivia night, but I’ve never stuck around for that.
Definitely a great little dive bar, and if you’re looking for a Sunday football fix, come down and say «hi» — I’ll be the girl drinking too many € 5 Pelfours.

Une amie a fêté son départ en Martinique au sous-​sol de ce pub. Salle assez spacieuse mais trop sombre à mon goût. Bref, rien de transcendant qui m’ait marquée après cette première et unique visite !

Un bar écossais en plein coeur du 6ème arrondissement, sous l’arche d’une petite rue à deux pas du pont neuf.
L’ambiance y est assez austère voir glauque, surtout si vous décidez de vous installer au sous-​sol: Une salle constituée de vieilles pierres avec des voutes et des armures… une ambiance très Moyen-​âgeuse mais qui a le mérite de dépayser !
Au programme, une vingtaine de variétés de Whisky et bien sûr de la bière !
Dommage que l’ambiance soit aussi froide…

Très bonne adresse pour les fins de soirée, The Highlander est ouvert jusqu’à 5 heures du matin tous les soirs de la semaine ce qui est plutôt appréciable pour Paris. Contrairement aux autres bars parisiens qui convoitent les mêmes horaires, l’ambiance n’y est pas glauque pour un sou.
Situé face au Pont Neuf, ce bar anglophone cultive la tradition de la fête. Dans une atmosphère et un décor de vrai pub écossais, The Highlander brasse une population d’anglo-saxons et d’étudiants parisiens, tous réunis pour les soirs de match, pour l’happy hour ou autres soirées à thèmes.
Avec une carte de whiskies halucinante (25 différents), et des recettes de shots de vodka originales, The Highlander makes everyone happy!

Encore un pub écossais, celui-​là est moyen, pas très convivial, mais son espace confiné lui donne un aspect rustique.

Bön pub pour activités
Cosy, bon décor authentique, bonne ambiance, le manager Dave est super sympa. Moi j’y vais de temps en temps pour regarder le foot. Mais il y a beaucoup d’activités qui y ont lieu, comme le Live Poets society, Open Mic night, en plus en musique (CD) il y a des barstaff qui s’y connaissent.

Dans les confins du quartier Saint Michel ce samedi après midi, une poignée d’élus à forte consonance britannique a pris d’assaut pour une énième fois le très underground Highlander. Fief de ceux qui exaltent la guinness et le clinquement de pintes, le Highlander est le rendez vous obligatoire pour tous ceux qui considèrent qu’un bon match de foot est subordonné à la quantité de breuvages capiteux ingurgitée.
Dans une ambiance bon enfant entrecoupée de déclarations savoureuses tels que kiss my shamrock! et you’re not tough fa, les clients aiment deviser sur le foot autour de bonnes bières brunes à la réputation éprouvée. Au milieu du ballet incessant des serveurs dont la réactivité a été indubitablement professée lors de leurs entrées dans l’établissement, le consommateur est un lord. Disponibles et affables, ces derniers s’avèrent pourvu d’un rarissime don d’ubiquité qui les amènent à vous resservir votre verre avec bonhomie à chaque fois que vous engloutissez votre pinte d’une seule traite
Après moult pintes ingérées et une magnifique claquette maison de Landreau dans ses propres filets, il né fut pas nécessaire de déployer des trésors de diplomatie et d’ingéniosité pour être resservi. Supposant– à juste titre-​que nous n’avions pas l’ alcool mauvais en dépit de cette cuisante défaite et de notre état d’ébriété très avancé, les serveuses nous délivraient des 50cl avec l’assentiment du patron. ravi de voir ces arrogants français ébranlés par l’implacable kick and rush scott.

Great open mike with a very accommodating host. The bar is a bit small but cozy and most everyone speaks english for us non-​french speaking types. Only get to play three songs due to the popularity of the venue. Every Wednesday nite starting @ 9:00 PM (that would be 21:00).

2 niveaux 2 ambiances
Bienvenue au Highlander, ou plus précisémment en Ecosse, au pays de la Beamish (bon d’accord c’est Irlandais) des Glagow Rangers et de tout le reste que je connais pas ! Ici on parle anglais, on commande à des serveurs/​serveuses sympathiques et dispo, on danse, on crie, on hurle devant le poste de télé pendant les matches. En résumé, bonne ambiance, bonne musique, le highlander vous promet des soirées fortes en émotions. De plus, le prix des consommations n’est pas disproportionnés et le seul hic serait le videur à l’entrée faisant un peu sa loi mais pardonnons lui, il fait ça pour né pas que les fumeurs fassent trop de bruit et gênent les voisins…

Sympa et international
Bar sur deux étages. Rempli le week end et clientèle internationale. Personnellement j’y ai passé de bonnes soirées. De plus assez excentré de saint michel, ce qui est une bonne chose si on veut éviter le foule des bars bondés. Pour conclure bar sympa.

Si vous vous trouvez dans le quartier latin, que tout est fermé et que vous né savez plus où aller boire un verre, une adresse: le Highlander… Vous pourrez y boire à en perdre la raison avec nos amis anglophones qui y sont en majorité. Même au bar, si vous né parlez pas anglais cela peut devenir difficile parfois pour commander. Donc ce bar n’a rien d’extraordinaire mais a le mérite d’être ouvert et l’alcool faisant le reste du travail, il reste tout de même assez convivial.

Whisky attitude
Il y a un bon choix de whiskies pour un pub de ce genre et c’est bien ! On retrouve l’ambiance quartier latin, c’est à dire étudiante. De bons moments à passer.
