L’Autre Café

No reason to be in this part of town on this particular day other than meeting a friend of a friend to talk some business. I found the staff to be very helpful (and pretty) and patient. Cool atmosphere, great location. Might stop by to do some writing sometime. Tucked away from the tourists, and saw a lot of people on laptops.

Un petit (grand) bistrot de quartier comme on en trouve partout ailleurs.
A défaut d’aller chez Café Oberkampf, je me suis retrouvée dans ce café, situé à l’angle de la rue Jean Pierre Timbaud et la rue Edouard Lockroy à Parmentier.
Classique dans son ensemble, le bistrot sert également des burgers et des plats du midi. La salle est grande, les assises sont confortables, le plafond est haut, l’ameublement est soigné et imposant, style un peu baroque, et les serveurs sont assez serviables.
Le prix des cafés est le même qu’ailleurs, environ 2,50 € un expresso, 4,50 € le cappucino.
Au niveau déco, c’est comme les brasseries classiques, pas de charme particulier, mais il y a du wifi pour travailler, donc c’est chouette quand même! Et il y a de la place !
Ils font des formules petit-​déj à 8 €.
Allez-​y, c’est pas mal ! On s’y sent bien.

Nous sommes tombées par hasard sur ce restaurant, un des seuls de la rue qui servait encore après 14h30.
Plus: Joli décor, ambiance typique des brasseries parisiennes; plats et desserts assez bons.
Moins: le temps d’attente avant que la serveuse vienne prendre notre commande (~20−25mn).
De plus, au moment de payer, nous avons sorti des petits pièces pour faire l’appoint, et la serveuse qui s’occupait de nous nous a gratifié d’un «vous êtes sérieuses?» en voyant la pile de petite monnaie.
En résumé, un plutot bonne expérience totalement gâchée par l’impolitesse de notre hôtesse juste avant de partir. Dommage !

Our initiation to Parisian eats was here. We ordered 2 coffee (cappuccino and espresso), freshly squeezed orange juice and a criossant. I was surprised that this came to € 15. Pretty pricey but very good.

I came here in the morning to grab some coffee and wifi, and the two ladies working at the bar were very nice. When I asked them if they can speak English in French, they said they do a little but we nonetheless had a decent communication and I got exactly what I needed and a croissant per their recommendation. Good coffee, good wifi, good croissant, and good atmosphere!

Wonderful restaurant! I devoured my Inca Salad while my husband selected the Confit de Canard. Fresh and perfectly cooked, the food was delicious. Reasonably priced for Parisian standards. I would return to L’Autre Café.

Our first stop at Paris was this restaurant recommended by Unilocal.The servers both spoke English fluently and were very efficient and friendly. I had the chicken burger and it was the best I’ve ever had! It has really fast free wifi as well.

Nous y avons diné par hasard avec notre fille de 10 ans (elle a adoré le burger maison et frites maison). L’endroit (ancienne maison close il parait) a gardé le charme d’une belle brasserie parisienne. L’ambiance est simple, le service très sympa, la carte un peu légère mais nos assiettes étaient savoureuses. Le prix des vins est par contre un peu élevé mais notre chardonnay était très bon… alors… bref, on recommande fortement.

Very nice looking restaurant. The food is surprisingly good and the service extremely fast, even when the room is completely full, with only two waitresses and one barman.
The prices are very affordable. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

We happened upon this corner café-​bar-​restaurant after we had enjoyed a stroll along by the canal. We weren’t feeling particularly hungry but… we felt very welcomed and the next thing we were thoroughly enjoying a chicken burger and a smoked ham and poached egg salad served with wonderfully crispy sauté potatoes. Delicious! We also enjoyed a ‘pot’of sauvignon (just more than half a bottle.) This feast cost us all of € 34. A bargain and a real find if you are looking for something simple but tasty.

L’autre café porte bien son nom car il fait un très bon café et est très différent des autres restaurants et bars du coin. Le cadre est très appréciable et s’en est presque dommage tellement il né s’y passé rien… On aimerait y retrouver un peu de l’ambiance du quartier Oberkampf niveau originalité…

L’endroit est sympa et on y bois sans doute le meilleur café du quartier mais il manqué une âme à ce lieu

Had a modest, traditional petit dej on Saturday morning. Must have been a busy Friday night bc the café was sleepy, only a few folks having coffee. Service was pleasant and slow, perfectly Parisian. Fresh OJ, good pain au chocolate. Will return!

Le dessert arrive longtemps après le café et j’ai fait part que je n’en voulais pas vu son arrivée tardive, et arrive la serveuse qui se montre désagréable argumentant que je n’avais pas précisé le vouloir avant… Si le dessert et le café étaient arrivés en même temps j’aurai accepté.
Je n’imaginais pas que dans un restaurant, il était nécessaire de préciser l’ordre d’arrivée des différents plats !
Bref, première et dernière expérience vu le sens non commercial de la serveuse.

I studied for about 8 hours at this café today and had a great experience! If there were others in the upstairs area, they were also working on their laptops, so I didn’t feel out of place in this more of a restaurant café. It’s a little pricy for the food, and we didn’t see the waiters too often, but I’m happy they didn’t mind me staying and taking advantage of the free wifi. This college student approves.

Je n’ai pu manger qu’un quart de mon tartare de boeuf. La viande était affreuse, pas du tout tendre, et j’ai même dû recracher je né sais combien de bout de nerfs… Je né suis pourtant pas d’une extrême exigeance, et me régale facilement avec un tartare moyen.
Mais surtout, AUCUN geste commercial après que je leur aie gentiment signalé la mauvaise qualité de la viande. J’ai donc dû m’acquitter de 14,50 € pour un plat immangeable.
Dommage, car j’aime énormément cet endroit, son cadre est très agréable. Mais pour un thé seulement…

Sitting in this café as I write! I’ve never had the food here, but I can say that the coffee’s decent (if a little on the pricier side — 4 – 5 € per, but I guess it’s fairly standard in Paris) and each hot drink comes with a chocolate covered almond (to be honest, that might be the best part).
The main reason I frequent this café/​comptoir/​resto is because it’s an amazing place to get work done: free and fast wifi, two floors (which means tons of space for you and/​or a group, and never too crowded), power outlets for your laptop/phone/n’importe quoi surrounding every table, and friendly waiters who don’t mind if you sit and work all afternoon (I think my record time is from 4−10pm…).
I probably would never eat here because the prices are a little high for my student status, but the coffee and work-​conducive atmosphere are good enough for me!

Petite déception concernant ce restaurant. Le lieu est vraiment magnifique, haut de plafond, la déco est plutôt sympa, bref plutôt engageant comme bistrot.

— Les serveurs né sont pas des plus agréables, même en faisant tous les efforts du monde, le nôtre né nous a pas décroché un sourire de la soirée, ou toute autre marque de sympathie.
— Euh, la nourriture! J’ai commandé un burger au Saumon… Bön et bien je me suis retrouvée avec un pavé de Saumon, à peine cuit, entre une tomate, une tranche de fromage orange à burger et du pain à burger moins bien que celui de McDo…
Pour 15 euros, il est vrai que je m’attendais à un peu mieux…
Les plats commandés par mes amis étaient également très médiocres: sans saveurs, sans aucune recherché, bref décevant!

Un endroit spacieux et agréable. La nourriture est bonne et les plats plutôt copieux.
Le menu comporte une option enfants ce qui est très pratique :)
L’endroit va bientôt fermer pour deux mois de travaux, il faudra y retourner !

Memorable ambiance, especially bathroom, but forgettable food.

quelle adorable! what a classic and great café/​restaurant/​bar. my friend and i were trying to get good «parisian» dinners instead of touristy spots for the 2 days we were in paris. of course, a lot of the reviews here are written in english so we were already nervous about the «touristy» vs. «parisian» feel — but we were welcomed with a totally non-​touristy feel. we were given completely french menus and, not until i started speaking in my broken french, did they suspect that we were tourists.
we shared the burger (i forget the name, but it was delicious-​medium cooked) and one of the salads. filling and very tasty, we were very pleased. we also both had cocktails that were just the right amount of strong. also, the wait staff was friendly and helpful overall as well!
finally — there was this facebook event going on in the upstairs part of the restaurant — it was a speed dating event for french young professionals! how fun. my friend and i wish we knew about it earlier :)

Went here once, had the salade aux crottins de chèvre chaud. Dee-flippin’-lish. As I was eating, however, I glanced to my right and saw my neighbor about to delve into a delicious-​looking burger (snapped a secret creeper photo — check it out!). I already liked this place, but after seeing the burger I knew I had to come back.
So the next night I had the burger. Just as juicy as I thought it would be! I highly recommend both.
Another big plus is the décor of this restaurant. It’s big with high ceilings unlike many cramped Parisian restaurants.
I definitely recommend trying this joint out — won’t regret it!

I like l’Autre Café, it has the look that you would expect all Parisian cafés to have but don’t. The food is good and the service was nice. The evening was trés agréable. The food-​to-​price ratio was perfect. The area is very trendy and has a lot of great finds just like this one.

Plats: Burger maison très bien, entrecôte comme il faut, souris d’agneau façon india au chutney de mangue parfumée à souhait. Mais ou est le problème me diras tu? service léthargique, et équipe d’une mauvaise fois évidente lorsque nous avons renvoyé la crème au chocolat qui était juste insipide. Le chef avait simplement rempli le verre avec de la crème un peu plus fraicheBref je pense qu’un peu plus de respect du client s’impose. On y retournera plus

J’ai bien aimé ce grand café/​bar/​restaurant très haut de plafond avec beaucoup de place.
C’est vrai qu’il tranche avec les petits bars exigus de la rue Jean-​Pierre Timbaud.
Je n’ai pas testé le restaurant, j’y suis juste allée pour prendre un verre entre amis. Les prix né sont pas attractifs (6 € la pinte) mais né sont pas excessifs pour le lieu.
En définitive, c’est un endroit sympa parfait pour les groupes de plus de cinq personnes.

Quand on se balade rue JP Timbaud, le choix du bar est toujours délicat tellement ils sont nombreux. Mais quand on est 7 ou 8, le choix est encore plus difficile vu que la plupart des bars de la rue sont petits et très bruyants.
Finalement on se décide pour L’Autre Café pour la taille du bar vu qu’on était nombreux.
Le bar est spacieux, la déco est vraiment très sympa et agréable. Pour le coup, le bar était très calme ce qui était pratique pour ce genre de moment où on se retrouve à plusieurs à discuter, mais beaucoup plus ennuyer si on est pas dans cet état d’esprit. La pinte est à 6 €, ce qui fait toujours un peu mal au porte-​feuille.
Petit plus: les toilettes hommes/​femmes surprenants quand on s’y attend pas (vous comprendrez une fois sur place).
Petit moins: quand on paie une bière avec un billet de 20 €, on s’attend à récupérer de la monnaie. A moins qu’il est pris 16 € comme un pourboire? Donc devoir se lever de table pour rappeler au serveur de nous rendre la monnaie d’un billet de 20 €, ça le fait moyen.

this is just a cozy little basic restaurant in the 11^th with charming french interior decoration. i go to this place when i want to have a drink, a coffee, or get dinner with a large group of friends (not a great dinner). decent place to get basic french food that is not over priced. service is good and the best part of this restaurant is the location. tons of bars all around. nothing too special about this place, except that it’s not a bad restaurant to eat at (they have all the main dishes like salmon, red meat, pasta, salads) but not the best either. just kind of in the middle. so now, if you are ever in this area, and you see this place, you kind of know what to expect.

Nous avons passé une très bonne soirée dans ce resto.
A côté des bars agités de la rue Jean-​Pierre Timbaud, on nous avait dit qu’on trouverait un resto pas cher, avec le cuisine simple et bonne. Banco !
Le personnel était très agréable, même s’ils étaient très occupés (qualité précieuse), les plats sont bons, le service rapide au vu de la quantité de clients.
Bref, une adresse à retenir !

La carte né change pas tellement mais on y mange toujours bien. Ils acceptent les réservations de groupe (+ 10 personnes) ce qui peut être très pratique pour les dîners de groupe! Le plus: le cadre est magnifique !

Terrific spot to grab a quick bite (any meal!). Laid back atmosphere and upstairs area to hang out, enjoy some beverages with friends or write/​do work.
I enjoyed the traditional French breakfast and found their spreads (apricot one in particular) to be delicious and so fresh. My first meal in France and it won’t be my last!
Also, they have safe and reliable WiFi for travelers with internet ready phones that are looking to connect with their homeland.

This place is simply a gorgeous Parisian café as any foreigner imagines they look like. Very high ceilings and windows give a nice natural light while retaining an intimate feel.
Perfect for a drink and a snack. My 4 stars are for space, service, quality of drinks, but I am less enthusiastic about the food because it is nice but not exceptional but overprice for the type of restaurant and the prices around the neighborhood. Excellent cocktails at a 6,50 euros. Don’t be fooled by the small-​ish glass, they are strong.
Big plus: no peanuts but a nice plate of raw vegetables, croutons and 1000 island-​type sauce instead. That is a welcome healthy option, rare in this town.

L’endroit est idéalement situé, très joli avec ses hauts plafonds et sa déco typique de brasserie française.
Le brunch à volonté n’est pas le meilleur que j’aie fait à Paris. Ca sent les plats faits à la va vite pour pas cher. Le chocolat chaud est bon… mais ça né vaut pas plus que 3 étoiles!

Nuance appréciable
Découvert en sortant du salon de L’autre livre (à l’époque où il était aux Métallos avant de gagner les Blancs manteaux), L’autre café est un endroit décontracté: On s’y sent bien sans en rajouter. La grande salle traditionnelle baignée d’une lumière chaude offre un cadre amical pour un dîner de groupe. La carte propose une cuisine traditionnelle moyenne, mais les pichets de vin sont de qualité. Ce café n’est pas très différent des autres mais cette nuance est déjà appréciable.

La cuisine est classique mais bonne.
Ce qui est très agréable à L’autre Café ce sont le décor, les tableaux exposés, le Wi-​Fi et les prises de courants, les journaux, les jeux… de quoi s’occuper et se détendre!

When things get a too claustrophibic in my «home-​office» and I need a peaceful yet populated place to work, I pack my bags and head off to l’Autre Café near Oberkampf.
This café/​bar/​retaurant is a rare breed in Paris. Not only is it spacious, and comfortable, it has insanely long hours and fast, reliable and free WiFI with no strings attached. Open everyday from 8:30am to 2:00am, you never need to think twice before heading out the door. Just come along with your power cable, find a comfy place to sit, and surf away to your heart’s content.
One of the many perks of the slow, disaffected service here (and in Paris in general) is that the staff rarely care if you hang around for hours consuming only minimal amounts of liquids and food, so you won’t have to drop a whole load of Euros to get your work done.

Dans une ambiance de bistro parisien, l’Autre Café est une excellente adresse pour les lève-​tard ou ceux qui rentrent de boîte affamés ! Ouvert 7 jours sur 7, on peut y manger et y boire à toute heure du jour et de la nuit !
Les plats sont nourrissants et savoureux pour vraiment pas cher !

Got taken here while in Paris for an expo, by a friend who has lived in Paris for 7 years. He found this place about 2 years ago and its now his local café/​bar of choice. Its very french and there were no other tourists in there. Luckily he could speak French when ordering although you could definitely get by in English eventually. We did not eat there but the food looked good. We had three beers. The place had a great buzz and very interesting and old décor which worked well.
I wish I had a place like this in London as for a Monday night it was busy, lots of atmosphere and trendy music.
