Got out at Vavin metro station, and just got caught by this La Rotonde right at the corner. 1920/30s style with red velvet decoration and mirrored ceiling. Nice waitor service, perfect steak and lamb steak.

Oh how I wish we were back at la rotonde again. We started off our trip here to celebrate our engagement(on a river cruise) and ended up coming back every night of our stay. We ended up coming back 5 nights in a row and loved it more each night. We sat outside and enjoyed a carafe of wine every night and people watched and ate great food. The crème brûlée was some of the best I have ever had. Service was great and the wine was reasonably priced. Wish I could be there right now!

This is the place to go if you are looking for the quintessential Paris café experience. I went at lunch and its full of locals on their 2 hour lunch. The interior is beautiful and looks like a café in Paris that you dream about. The food and service are great with an extensive menus of French classics. Goat cheese salad is superb as was the duck breast salad with walnuts and grapes. Wine by the glass list was nice.

I love it here !! First your greeted by everyone and I mean everyone it is the most elegant feeling I can say By far it’s like your own white glove service the theme of the restaurant seemed very 1920s flappers. Red velvet everywhere mirrored ceiling rustic beautiful paintings it was just amazing I loved every minute of it the energy in the place. My husband and I arrived here about 11PM at night to be served and it was amazing one of the few places in the area that was still open although we didn’t intentionally mean to go and we were following another Unilocal place that said it was open we got there it was closed(strange) anyway this is right across the street it made me happy that it was dress attire is casual but we were dressed up for a highend place and we sure did feel like we fit in better(I was in a very nice long dress) but I noticed people very casual in sweats being served so it seems open . Anyway on to food !! First of all if I love wine which I can’t remember for the life of me Mostly because my husband is French so he handled that speaking part lol, I got salmon tar tar !!! Omg so amazing !! Snails and oysters !! We got which ever was in season and more recommend so good then I ordered a lamb ans mashed potatoes and he ordered a large steak that was circle and thick with scalloped potatoes. I never had my lamb before it was chewy as expected and I would of liked better with out the gravy but it was still good and great experience he loved his steak . Moving on to desserts !! He got some baked peach which was amazing with icecream and I got some platter with everyyythinggg they had and coffee :) like a sampler I guess it was amazing experience I loved it our bill was insane but worth it it is deff a expansive place but we did anticipate it prior as stated If your in France and here just go !! They also have a English menu too !!

The best thing on this restaurant is the service; the food is very good too, but in the sea of rudeness we found in Paris, this place was a oasis of kindness. A little expensive, but totally worth it.

First day in Paris and first Parisienne restaurant. I tried asking for a table for one in French and the server responded in English. I was slightly relieved, practicing my French makes me nervous. Anyway, I sat outside for front row seats to people watching. The place is filled with locals having their cigarettes/drinks and it seemed at 7pm, I was the only one dining. The server quickly dropped off bread, olives and butter to start. I had the cote du rhone and the steak tartare which could feed two with a smaller appetite. It came with mixed greens and fries. You know how they know you’re not a local? You’re getting ketchup on the table. Once I got up to leave around 8:45, the place was swarming on a Sunday. Friendly service + good menu. g

My husband and I were recommended to this place by a French friend. It was so charming. I felt like I was back in the 1920’s! The booths are red velvet and amazing paintings on the walls. The food was excellent at a reasonable price. It was a magical evening and worth every penny!

My mother and I visited on a recent trip to Paris. The staff at the nearby Hotel des Academies et des Artes recommended La Rotonde for a casual late lunch. We were seated immediately upon arrival at an outdoor table, which was perfect for this particular beautiful spring afternoon. The staff, although not the warmest(but I suppose it is Paris after all…), worked efficiently to bring us olives and crusty bread to enjoy while making our selections. We decided to share a half dozen oysters, followed my steak frites for me and cod for my mother. The oysters tasted fresh and well chilled, and our mains were solid although not especially memorable. We finished off the meal with a rhum baba which I think was more rhum than baba. A fine place which I would definitely visit again — but in a city where you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to food, I can’t give La Rotonde any higher than three stars.

Very nice meal, plentiful outside seating, also an English menu. A little pricier than most in the area, but I think this is due to the prime location. All our food was wonderful, and service was also great. I would recommend.

We would dine here every day, if we lived in Montparnasse and had more money. This is what is expected of a good 5 star restaurant. Good service, good ambiance, and most importantly good food. Upon entrance, you are warmly greeted and seated. They speak English and will accommodate Americans and their idiosyncrasies, even though too many Americans have no clue of French customs as to dining or properly addressing the French waiters. I saw one American couple go in and speak English as if in an American restaurant and order as if at a Dennys. In France, it is custom to be more formal in greeting and addressing people. For dinner, you say«Bonsoir Monsieur» to greet your waiter and wait to be seated. You are expected to be hungry and eat at least a full entrée. Formal dinner begins at 7:30 to 8PM in a French restaurant, not a café or brasserie. Anyway, we ate here twice and had different selections all of which were excellent, including first plates of raw oysters, entrees of leg of lamb, sea bass, and beef. For dessert we had the crème brûlée which was the best ever and most of all divine.

We went here on a Wednesday night so didn’t make a booking however it was very busy! Luckily we got a wee table by the door which was actually perfect. We were given some bread and the waiter was very nice. My boyfriend ordered from the set menu which was 3 courses. We shared the bacon salad which was huge and filled with meat! He got the steak and chips, which unfortunately came out too rare. However they quickly gave us a new one with fresh chips. I ordered the steak tartare which was huge too! It also came with chips and both things were lovely. We then shared the proiteroles which were very rich but tasted good for the price! We sat outside under the heaters for some drinks which was lovely. Overall good area, good price, tasty classic food

Second time in France for me, first time was before Unilocal.I’m probably not qualified to critique French food but here goes. La Rotonde gets 5 stars. I wanted to give it six. In Paris for only one day of business, so we asked the concierge for the best restaurant nearby. La Rotonde was it. We went with one streak tartare as an appetizer for five, and then had either the sole filet or the prime rib. Everything was surreal. Before the steak tartare came, they laid out an olive tapenade, olives, and bread and butter. The olive tapenade was a bit salty… oops… it was caviar.(Did I say second time in Paris?) We had difficulty agreeing on a wine, we spoke English, broken French, and Hebrew. We went with a sancerre«ruege»(yes please). But they put a bottle of Heintz ketchup on the table. I figured we were«made» as Westerners. No other table had ketchup. The steak tartare was unearthly. The meat was clean and cool. Inside we tasted capers and mustard. Sauteed onions popped in our mouths. We licked our plates. The best steak tartare we’ve all ever had — even those among us who weren’t «steak tartare people». Others tried the prime rib: it was cleaned ad nauseum and looked small without it’s usual bone and glistening fat: but it tasted exactly like filet minion. Wow. I had the sole… the waiter steered us away from the sea bass because the sole was a special. Two tux wearing waiters came out with two soles for the table and asked us sole eaters if we wanted them«boned». I said«Bone my sole!» So did my travel partner. They came back in a jiffy with two de-boned soles on two fat white plates. Each sole was about a foot long and glistening with butter. Each bite — ¼ inch thick — was like eating an aged two-inch thick pink lamb chop at Keens Steakhouse. We-could-not-fi-gure-it-out. The skin was a flavor-bomb. 24 bites later, I was done. I counted. My soul was devastated by the last bite, and I dreaded it’s flavor and texture because I knew there’d be no more. It’s like when I saw Star Wars in 1977 and left the theatre kicking and cursing and punching the walls because I knew I would never see it again with virgin eyes. Desert was amazing. The baba-au-rum cake was delish and rum-soaked to the limit. We had a 17 year AA member at the table — ANDHETRIEDITANDLOVEDIT!(I hope I don’t find him on the curb in the morning). The crème brûlée was surreal. The caramelized sugar on top was thinner than any I’ve ever had and the baked cream beneath was creamier. The fried bananas came with a show. A tux clad waiter set the plate on the end of the table, drizzled Rhum Clement on top, and lit it afire. He let the blue flame burn as he spooned the drippings back on top. Voilá! This place was amazing from start to finish. The Paris atmosphere drenched us there. Every table in the place had people talking, rubbing elbows… it was like Times Square. I felt like I was in a movie. The bananas for desert were fried in a butter concoction and blackened against the pan… I prefer frying them in equal parts butter, brown sugar, and marmalade, with a little Grand Marnier boiled off before the fiery rum. Easy… I’m just sayin’.

Heureusement on m’a invitée à dîner.

Yeah I like this place. Old Montparnasse classic, old haunt of early 20th century artists, and located on a great corner for sitting outside with a little petit dejeuner and planning a day of doing nothing. You really can’t mess up petit dejeuner. Buy some reasonable baguette and croissants to serve, and squeeze a few oranges for juice. The hardest part must be having at least a mediocre cup of coffee. Rotonde gets good breads, squeezes oranges and makes a really nice coffee, all on a corner that is great to sit on. You really can’t go wrong here. We also came for lunch and I highly recommend the steak tartare, it was fantastic.

It’s always a pleasure returning to La Rotonde, the historic Parisian restaurant in the lively Montparnasse district. Although when we recently arranged a dinner party for an old friend from London, I was slightly hesitant to choose La Rotonde as in recent years, we found the restaurant was a bit off in its game. We were pleasantly surprised that the La Rotonde we loved was back in stride with brisk and professional service, white tablecloth settings, and a wide dinner menu even in Summer. We recognized most of the staff, so I suppose this means there’s a good continuity too. La Rotonde, the legendary haunt of writers, artists, and composers(Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, George Gershwin), today hosts a mix of evenly matched French and foreign clientele. Diners can choose to sit inside on plush red banquets, chairs, or be outside to watch the panorama of a Parisian evening. We all had an amazing Gazpacho soup while our friend started with a Salade Frisee with egg. My wife and I both ordered a superlative Magret de Canard, clearly the best I had in France, and a reminder of what was missing from the menu in the past few years. The duck’s plentiful slices were perfectly seared and presented with a rich lingenberry sauce. As our friend stayed with a salmon dish we compromised on a Rose wine. La Rotonde is pricy but not shockingly so. Even the extensive wine list offers many affordable options. I’m happy to say that La Rotonde is back with a flourish.

Also: Muße mitbringen oder etwas anderes bestellen.
