Hôtel Métropole Lafayette

I stayed here in 2006 and it was a okay cheap hotel. I stayed here again in December 2012 and it is terrible! The building has really gone downhill. Everything is filthy and falling apart. Really bad. I had (I think) clean sheets, but that’s about it. The floors are filthy, and they didn’t bother to empty the bathroom trash. Thank goodness it only had a pack of gum and some empty plastic bags, I can imagine it being much worse…
Now to the worst part. If you use a reservation service (I used
) they will try to charge you twice. I was charged when I booked the room, and they charged me again when I checked in. I protested, but my French and their English instantly got worse, because they suddenly couldn’t understand anything I was saying. I tried to use their «free wifi» to look up the first receipt, but that didn’t work. «Push OK.» «On which network?» «Push OK now.» «There are ten networks, which is yours?» «It’s on, just push OK.» «They all ask for a password, do you have a password?» «It’s on, see? Push OK.» You get the picture: no wifi.
So, they keep a crappy hotel, and are either totally incompetent, or actively scamming people. I have to go through Gomio now to see if they can do anything. For double the price I could have stayed in a real hotel. It’s a shame, as the location is convenient, but don’t let that fool you into staying here. STAY AWAY.
