Hôtel du Vieux Saule

American Travelers — be forewarned that if you are looking for large spacious accommodations, this place is not for you!
Now I had a great stay at the Vieux Saule. The staff was excellent, the Hotel was clean and in a great location. There are great restaurants nearby and the subway is less than 10 minutes away.
I was a little disappointed with breakfast and I thought breakfast was included… I know it is the American in me but scrambled eggs would have been great versus the hard boiled eggs.
Everyone I met in the Hotel were either American, English or German which was nice as well. Very friendly people.
I would definitely stay here again.

NYC and Paris have something in common when it comes to hotels… there are plenty of them. However, there are plenty of shitty hotels in both cities. Most of us have heard the horror of tiny and dirty hotel rooms. As much as i find myself in Paris, I don’t usually stay at hotels. It has mostly been renting a studio or apartment. However, this one time I find myself renting a hotel due to a last minute arrangement.
Located the hip Marais area, Hotel du Vieux Saule has a convenient location. It is within a stone’s throw from the Marche des Enfants Rouges, Square du temple, and walking distance to the Temple metro station. The rooms are small, but that is not unusual in Paris. However, the upgraded rooms are large enough to move freely. My favorite is the large bathroom with skylights (I was on the top floor), which was beautiful to look at while taking a bath.
Breakfast is standard — assortment of pastries, cured meats, eggs, and coffees. Service is prompt and attentive… the front desk recommended nice places to eat nearby. The best of all… my favorite Algerian restaurant in Paris (Chez Omar) is less than a block away. The eateries in the Marche des Enfants Rouges are quite delightful as well, particularly Le Traiteur Marocain — the family-​run Moroccan eatery.
Definitely recommended if you are looking for a clean, reasonably priced, and conveniently located hotel in Paris.
