Reserved a car through Orbitz at the Charles De Gaulle airport for drop off in Paris. Original reservation listed Dollar as the company and the reservation instructed us to go to the Thrifty counter, which was incorrect. Turns out it was Hertz, which owns Dollar/​Thrifty. Would have been nice to know this before hand. Asked Hertz guy at the counter about ease of finding drop off location in Paris. He assured us it was simple and to just find the address using gps. Could not have been further from the truth. The address was for the main entrance to the Louvre museum. Thrifty desk is in the Louvre mall, but not the parking location for the cars. Drove around for an hour getting yelled at or given bad information by rude frenchman before finally parking in the taxi lane, running inside the louvre, and getting some decent instructions from a security guard on how to get to the parking area, which I would have never found on my own. One would think that Hertz would have enough common sense to provide better information about the drop-​off location for their cars in the heart of paris; nope, just an address at the opposite end of the Louvre property from where the parking lot is located. And no phone number for the location so i could call to ask for directions. Wasted a couple hours in total, not to mention the stress of driving around the streets of Paris, lost, thanks to half-​ass communications.

A complete Joke! .tried to make us believe the car we rented was not sufficient enough nor that they had it ready… wanted double the original price (which I paid in advance for) and after 30 minutes of haggling and trying to get us to agree on the upgrade we did not. Turns out the car was sitting there the whole time and was actually better than the car they wanted to give us… very deceptive and not a trustworthy place to rent a car… I would absolutely avoid this location. Two other people I randomly spoke with about our experience) also had the same type of issue there.

, the total was supposed to be € 346.82. I was delayed in getting to the rental location and arrived approximately two hours late. The rental agent informed me that because I was more than an hour late, my reservation was canceled. At this point, rather than offering me a comparable car at a comparable price, I was offered a series of upgraded cars – a convertible for € 900, an Audi for € 700, etc., all with extra insurance I didn’t need. I said I wanted the car I had booked at the rate I had booked it, which included daily wifi device, CDW, and GPS for a total of € 346.82. The agent then revealed that they did not have any cars of the class I had reserved! At no point did the rental agent or her manager acknowledge that this was the whole point of making a reservation! Setting aside the lateness policy, does Hertz have no responsibility to provide the vehicles they are supposedly offering for reservation??? At this point, the cheapest option they offered me was a car for € 558.31 including all the extras I had wanted, which was € 211.49 more than my reservation. Based on other reviews, it sounds like I got off easy! At this point, the agent said that it was because the extras in my reservation were charged by the day and not included in the subtotal I had. I showed her the email showing that indeed they had been calculated per day, and when I compared them to her screen, the difference was clearly due to a € 200 «surclassement/​Upgrade HT» fee. I was puzzled by this because if my reservation was truly canceled, I would expect the additional cost to be reflected in the daily rate for the car. Instead, the daily rate was the same, and this upgrade fee was in addition. I began to suspect that the rental cancellation policy was a ruse, and that I was being talked into an upgrade I didn’t want.
At this point I asked to speak with someone else, and the manager was summoned. She reiterated what the agent had already said and also produced a highlighted print-​out that she said noted the cancellation policy. It was all in French, but she assured me that’s what it said. Later I reread my confirmation email for the reservation, and it did not say anything about cancellation of a reservation because of lateness, even though it did clearly note that fees might apply for early or late return of a rental. It is also dishonest to hold renters accountable to a policy that is only communicated in a language different from the one used to make the reservation! The manager called their offer for the upgraded car «a good deal» and stared me down while I made up my mind whether to take it. I was already behind schedule and had spent 45 minutes with the agent. If I were at an airport counter, I would have certainly declined and sought out a different rental company, but I was in an unfamiliar city where I didn’t speak the language, so I felt coerced into accepting the offer. From other reviews, it sounds like I may have been charged a cancellation fee if I walked away, which would have been ridiculous.
I’ve emailed Hertz about this subsequently, but they’ve just reiterated the cancellation policy and have not acknowledged any responsibility for providing the vehicle I reserved or explained why I was charge an upgrade fee for a reservation that was supposedly cancelled. My hotel offered to arrange a rental for me, and I wish I had taken this option, because I suspect that our excellent concierge could have helped us avoid this extortionate treatment!

I’m writing this review to warn others and hopefully to get the attention of their customer service division. I have had an absolutely awful experience with Hertz in France. We rented our car from the Hertz location at the train station in Nice. They did not have a GPS device for our car so the only option was to pay for the more expensive vehicle. After this I told them that I wanted to have insurance so that if anything happened to the vehicle then I could simply walk away at no additional expense. The woman suggested collision and the vandalism insurance. Within 20 minutes of driving another car threw a metal object out of their window on the freeway and destroyed half of our windshield. When I brought the car to Hertz in Paris they said I would be responsible for this cost. Apparently with vandalism insurance you have to pay the first $ 1500 Euro. That is absolutely insane. People would have to do a lot of vandalism to reach that point, so you’re really just taking from the customer on both ends and its a horrible business practice. I have emailed and called on three separate occasions and nobody has bothered to respond to me. They just keep sending a bill for $ 947 Euro for a new windshield which is obviously much more expensive than a windshield actually costs. As a Hertz Gold Member and someone that actually bought a car from Hertz this year, I used to really trust this brand but after this experience I honestly don’t think I’ll ever use them again. Its terrible to feel like you’re being ripped off and then ignored but the Hertz in Paris is definitely making me feel like both.

Do not go anywhere near this rental agency. They played a car switch on us which cost us over $ 1000.00. I rented and prepaid a Peugeot wagon at this location last August through Auto Europe for $ 698,04, When we arrived for the car, the local agent said she could put us in a slightly larger Citro Grand Picasso at the same price. Repeatedly said there was not an additional charge but we did have to sign and pay for the car seat and road tolls. We questioned the rental amount on the French contract (we only speak English) and she said that was the amount we already paid to Auto Europe. At least four times she assured us we were only signing for the cost of the car seat and road tolls. To our surprise, our credit card was charged over $ 1,200.00 for this free «upgrade,» road tolls, and car seat.
Auto Europe and Hertz wouldn’t help us even though this switch doesn’t meet the «smell test.» Why would anyone pay more than double (over $ 1,000) for a vehicle only inches bigger. Hertz and Auto Europe simply said that we signed the contract. They would not take into account that Hertz’s agent fraudulently interpreted this contact.
Bottom line, don’t trust what the Hertz’s agent at this location tells you. If you only speak English, demand an English contract.

Also scammed by this Hertz location. A few weeks after my rental, we received an «administrative fee» for 19.99 euro. We had already paid all the fuel surcharges and other «administrative fees». This is obvious foreigner exploitation. Hertz is now on my never-​again list.

It’s usually very difficult to rent cars in Europe. Not here! Great people, flexible, easy to follow directions and great rates.

Absolutely horrible! We pre-​paid our car and arrived on time. The agent spoke almost no english. We finally gave him our credit card and he said it was declined. He tried 15 times then just walked into the back room and closed the door. I called American Express who said the agent had tried to charge $ 1900 on our card for a 400 rental that was pre-​paid. Eventually he came back and ignored us saying goodby. We were stuck there without a car. I called Hertz in the U.S. And they called him but the U.S. Agent spoke no french and couldn’t get anywhere. She apologized and said there was nothing more we could do. We walked to the Enterprise booth next door and was promptly rented a car but for $ 200 more. When we got back to the U.S., we found that Hertz had not only charged us the pre-​paid rate but added a $ 100 «cancellation fee». I have emailed Hertz and have never been answered. Their agents said they clan do nothing because the rental was in France. I will now go though my credit card and challenge Hertz but they really screwed me over and then they tried to charge me. Just a horrible experience. I have used Hertz in the U.S. for years but never again. Never.

American Express booked our rental car for us through Hertz at CDG. It was easiest enough to navigate the airport and find the rental desk. We were given the choice between a Ford and a Peugeot. Since we were in France, the hubs chose the Peugeot. WRONG choice. It was a hybrid and it sucked. NOT good for Paris traffic. You need to be able to step on it and you couldn’t in this car. The rental agent should have explained how the car worked. Clearly, there was a trick to it. Anyways, you have the option to return the car in Paris and it was virtually impossible. A few wrong turns, a few turns down one way streets and we finally got it back. The poor experience was probably more on us than on Hertz but a little explanation would have been nice.

I usually find it a hassle to rent a car, however this time, it was smooth and easy.
There were a couple things I liked about this Hertz. For one, it was open 7 days a week and until 9pm. Think about that… how many places are open at 9pm on a Sunday in France? Being able to rent the car for the weekend (about 80 euro friday — sunday night) and being able to return it Sunday night was perfect.
I also liked the location, the service and the little car I got, all pluses.
Only reason for 4 stars is because it is a pain in the ass to find a gas station in Paris, I guess I don’t drive enough to know where they are at.
Either way, if you need a car and are in this area, this Hertz is a great choice (book online saves you about 20% too). Bön route
