Charming ambiance with pretty good happy hour, but their food was just mediocre. Great place to hang out if you’re a Regular and want to work on your laptop during the day.

Un cadre intimiste mais un brin bruyant. Bonne portion à déguster, les hamburgers sont divins et enorme… le dress code des serveurs rajoute du cachet à l’ endroit.

C’est tout a fait au hasard que je me suis retrouvé dans ce charmant petit bistro du IIIeme. Pour ce qui est de la déco on est dans la brasserie chic aux détails soignés.
L’accueil y est cordial et pour peu que vous né soyez pas nombreux on vous trouvera toujours une table.
Les +: plats bon (cheeseburger pour moi) mais pas non plus le burger de ma vie. Une belle carte de vins et de cocktails. Service sympathique et souriant (presque tous).
Les —: les prix ! On est clairement dans du bistrot braderie très haut de gamme avec aucun plat en dessous de 17eur. Le lieu est très très bruyant et les tables collées laissent peu de place a l’intimité. Mention spéciale aux toilettes immondes (déjà a 20h30).

It gets crowded. But the ambience is lively and the food very good. You are also in front of Le Marche Des Enfants Rouges, which is a must see when in Paris.

Aaah le Café Charlot, une adresse toujours blindée, branchée et people mais qu’on finit quand même par adorer.
C’est un poil cher mais franchement tout est bon et bien fait !!!
Les plats du jour sont toujours différents et bons, le brunch est très complet et délicieux, l’escalope milanaise est énorme, les frites bien croustillantes, le club sandwich parfaitement faits… Que dire ?
S’il faut avoir de la chance pour trouver une place, vous né serez pas déçu par les plats qui sont simples mais toujours bien faits. Le service est adorable, un peu pressé mais vraiment super.
PS: né soyez pas surpris si vous voyez Raphael ou encore Julia Roberts attablés au Café Charlot, c’est une adresse très prisée des people !

Hands down, one of my favorite go-​tos whenever I am in town.
The most quintessential of French bistros in a really nice part of Haut Marais, this place isn’t all about that perfect French décor or the beautiful people who seem to always congregate there. It’s definitely about their très très goooood food — my favorites are the salmon burger (real salmon slab, not patty, sandwiched in between so much goodness) and their goat cheese salad — their sharp service and their drinks that complement the vibe of the place so well!
The location is great for people-​watching as well. On the corner of Rue du Bretagne and Rue Charlot, you can spend hours here just facing the street, sipping un café, while reveling in the Paris-​ness of that moment. They are open until late too, unlike other places in the city, so yay!

Best meal we ate in Paris, twice! Delicious with cute staff dressed uniformly, it is very Parisian.
We were in Paris during a very hot week so were seeking cooler dishes. We had the artichoke with vinegar and the tomatoes with mozzarella. Simple, fresh perfect flavor. We also returned for these dishes again and also got the salmon, perfection… and steak. We were fooled by a different steak on the menu which turned out to be hamburger with an egg on top so be sure that you get beefsteak with beurre with a side of pomme frites! Excellent!
Oh…only negative but this isn’t the restaurant because this is just the way it is in Paris but there is so much smoking during meals so ask for inside and try and position yourself near non-​smokers.

Poor service, poor attitude, ran out of eggs and even injured my wife! The pastries were from Poillaine down the street. Doesn’t really matter if you speak in English or French.
Don’t waste your time. Go to the market across the street or one of the numerous other places in the area.
Too bad… up to this point all the cafes and bistros have been outstanding and excellent in service.

We ended up having breakfast in this place after my first choice of a breakfast place (the market across the street) didn’t provide what I thought they had.
Anyway, service was neutral, not polite, bordering on the rudeness. We mumbled broken French and successfully conveyed what we wanted, but I overheard the table behind me, with four middle-​aged Spaniards, who talked to the waiter in English (ooh la la, la grand faux pas), and the waiter annoying told them «You visit France, you speak French!» Fine, if a French visits the Philippines, I’ll expect them to speak in Filipino.
But let me talk of the food. The eggs Benedict were divine. And the 5 EUR hot chocolate was silky smooth. No wonder it costs 5 EUR. It was totally worth it. And of course we tried their croissants, which was wonderful.
I’d definitely come back here for the food. But I’d suggest going somewhere else if you don’t have thick skin. Come here for the food, not for the service. Funny, when we added a couple of euros as a customary tip, the waiter almost couldn’t mumble «Merci».

We popped in here for lunch specifically because it looked way more busy than any of the surrounding cafes, which to me just screams that it’s a favorite for the locals. That being said, both the hostess and waiter spoke English and were more than happy to answer our questions. Even though it was packed, we only waited about 10 minutes to get a seat.
Service: friendly wait staff though very slow to take orders. One thing I’ve noticed about Paris in general is that if you don’t order your food at the same time they take your drink order, then you may not see your waiter for another 20 minutes. We eventually just flagged ours down to bring him back to our table to take our order.
The food: delicious! We got the Madame burger and the croque jeune fille.
I had ordered the burger medium well and although it came to our table cooked medium, I was happy for it. The meat was very fresh and juicy and tasty all the way through.
The croque was equally delicious and way bigger than what we expected! One of the other reviewers had described it as being «anorexic» but I don’t know what the heck she was talking about. One order would have been enough to feed both of us even if we hadn’t ordered the burger.

Café Charlot was the best restaurant we found in the Marais. It’s a little pricey, but the food is fantastic and the wait staff are all super friendly (and speak good English, too). We went here twice (breakfast and lunch) during our week here, and I just left our last dinner in Paris wishing we had gone back to Café Charlot instead.

Great local café with good drinks and quality meat dishes. Hear incredible things about their burgers, but was craving something lighter so went for the chicken with lemon and a delicious sauce that I could bathe in. Good drinks selection and the service is average and friendly. My friend had the steak and eggs and wasn’t pleased «Lame, just a burger patty with an egg on it, I’m not sure what they were going for.»

If you want to see true Parisian service at it’s finest I’d have to say this is one of the places to visit. The staff were polite, fast and as good as some of the best I’ve seen, they know what they are doing and seem to love their jobs.
The costs for breakfast was super great value, the croissants were fresh, crunchy and oh so very very good. It’s a great start to a day exploring Paris, make sure you don’t miss out on breakfast here.
If you want great experience in Paris then this is the perfect place!

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here last night. The place was crowded with a buzzing energy. We were the only ones with children but received no less attention than any other table. In fact, the waiter was gracious and very helpful with the orders. Dinner was delicious — we enjoyed the sea bass and the chicken with risotto. The kids’ burgers were perfectly cooked medium and the frites were addictive. Would recommend, especially for any American in Paris that wants to feel a bit more local without feeling lost.

L’alimentation et les modèles né se mélangent pas et le Café Charlot né fait pas exception. La nourriture est bonne et les modèles sont mieux, surtout pendant la semaine de la mode, mais les modèles né sont pas en train de manger. Messieurs, se comportent-​vous. Je suis réveillé par garce serveurs français donc je viens souvent. Méfiez-​vous, les Américains ombrageux abondent.

The athmosphere of this place is thrilling. Lots of people in– and outside, a nice light (check the lampions which make a cosy ambiance) and relaxed folks. The Club Sandwich is huge and fresh, but far from cheap. Love it.

Came here twice for breakfast. The breads (croissants, baguette and whole wheats) were chewy and delicious… Not a lot of cafes open this early, so Café Charlot was a to-​go place for early local Parisian breakfast. To dip the toasted breads to soft-​boiled yolk… Great start.
Coffee is moderate like any other places, but apart from the breakfast menu, other foods (Benedict, Norwegian, etc.) are more on the over-​priced range.

I love this place! It is the perfect place to have breakfast and people watch. Their oeufs à la coque are a must have– soft boiled eggs with toast cut into long strips so you can dip it in the egg.
Sit at a table outside under the heat lamp (if it is cold) and you might end up spending all day here.

Stopped in here looking for brunch on a Saturday. They only serve their brunch plate on a Sunday, but given that I never seem to need all the ‘extras’ the Parisians add to their brunch, the simple eggs Benedict and Florentine on the regular menu were ideal Saturday fare for us.
Charming if hurried service, lovely seating outside in the sunshine, outstanding freshly squeezed orange juice (I almost had a second glass) and decent eggs (the bacon was even nice!). Reasonable prices given the area and the excellent people watching one can do.
I would not cross Paris for this place but if I’m in the area I’d definitely come back.

J’aime ce genre de «Bistro» très «Parigo»… Petit mais sympa ou l’on parle entre tables très facilement …

One of the best meals we had in Paris, staff was very friendly, brunch was outstanding!

Le café Charlot est un bon endroit pour prendre son café en terrasse près de république. Les happy hours commencent à 19h, les bières de 50cl à moitié prix.

Un joli coin dans le quartier du marais. Près des commerces de la rue de turenne, c’est l’endroit idéal pour se réstaurer après avoir fait les boutique dans les environs. Les serveurs sont agréables et en costume traditionnel ce qui donne un certain charme à cette brasserie. De très bonnes saveurs ! Faites y une halte si vous avez la chance d’être pas loin

Not impressed, service less than polite, they never learnt how to smile?
Good place for a drink or coffee but the food is less than average. My friends each got the burrata salad which was very small. I got the steak à cheval but the steak is a steak haché (ground meat). Served with fries, i asked for salad and was charged an extra 4 euros. Never mind. We had lots of drinks (champagne) and the waiter was not very friendly. Small place, not great service, I won’t return.

The right café to stop over in to get the super excellent brunch or just a cup of hot chocolate. Café Charlot has the best hot chocolate I have ever had anywhere. Rich, dark, smooth, and very very chocolatey.

Enfin une vrai salade césar !!!

L’endroit est très agréable bien que la terrasse soit surchauffée en hiver, mais on y mange relativement mal, et pour beaucoup d’argent. Donc si vraiment il n’y a plus de place nulle part et qu’une table se libère ici, on peut éventuellement y mettre les pieds, sinon c’est plutôt à éviter.

C’est joli, c’est plein de gens beaux et stylés, c’est bobo, et c’est normal on est rue de Bretagne en face du marché des enfants rouges.
Au final, un endroit sympa dans le quartier pour prendre un verre ou un plat si on a les moyens (ah oui, c’est pas donné donné), les gens y sont détendus et les serveurs aussi.
Bref, c’est parisien cool.

Still love it here. Some things are pricey (5+ Euro for a diet coke?) but I love the chickenburger with sage cheese and tatziki style sauce as well as the chicken paillard with asparagus. The Rose’ from Provence is quite good. One thing, the kitchen can be tempermental. Recently, they agreed to do takeout for me after first refusing. They said they would only do a cheeseburger, not chicken paillard. Then they agreed to do paillard. I paid for paillard, got home, opened up the bag and it was a cheeseburger! Those crazy French, with all their inflexibility!!! I really don’t even eat red meat except a steak from Peter Luger’s once a year. It grossed me out but I ate it, and I confess it was pretty darn good. My version had a couple slices of griddled jambon on it.

Ok this is one of the places to be (and be seen) in the Marais, drinks are affordable for Paris, and they have a really nice terrace facing South, very sunny.
That said, don’t go for the food because it is a total rip off. Quality is mediocre and prices outrageous (burgers are 17 – 20 euros, croque monsieurs 14, Tomato +Mozzarealla Salad 16, etc…). Nothing annoys me more than poor bang for my buck.
Am ok to pay a good price for quality, but this is not the case here.
I had a Caesar Salad that had me cry when the waitress brought it over: tons of iceberg lettuce, tasteless slices or white chicken straight from the supermarket cellophane packaging, some parmesan slices that were ok but just ok, and a kind of ranch sauce I could not really taste it was so bland. And it cost me 15 Euros.
That was not worth the price for looking at a bunch of tourists and model wanna-​bes.
The décor is in the now overdone old-​style French bistro, but it works. Just go for a glass of something outside on the terrasse.

The first meal in paris. It was very good: good service (server speak english, some of them are even smile), perfectly cooked egg (in french standard, very runny, perfectly yellow, no burn spot). Very simple menu, we didn’t have to spend long time to decide which one … Omelette, benedict, coffee. Eggs benedict was typical; perfectly cooked eggs, good portion of ham but not exceptional, the omelette was however great.
Everything was very good until very typical Parisienne sat right next to us invading our space; right next to us, just like she is with us, there are plenty of other tables! Strange woman… Anyway overall it was nice, looking outside, watching people…

J’ai eu la chance d’y avoir un très bon accueil. J’aime l’ambiance de l’endroit, tamisée, très bistrot avec ce qu’il peut y avoir d’inconfortable (bonjour banquette ultra rigide). On est dans la Rue de Bretagne donc c’est ultra m’as tu vu ambiance Le Progrès, mais à l’occasion on s’en accommode.
Le verre de syrrah que j’y ai pris était très bien. les serveurs absolument adorables et pas lourds pour un sou.
Donc je pense éventuellement m’y arrêter pour un verre si je suis dans le quartier. En revanche les places sont chères mieux vaut réserver!

There are no others that can compare. If you want BRUNCH and you want it done right and d*mn good, then scoot your toot to CAFE CHARLOT!
Now I am ONLY reviewing this place on their Brunch and their one MUST ORDER breakfast dish PAIN PERDU (also known as FRENCH TOAST in America).
Thanks to a lovely Paris Food Blogger named Miss Devour I was able to find this amazing Brunch Plate.
Pain Perdu is only ever served with the brunch plate on Sundays, a delicious forest of ramekins filled with creamy eggs, smoked salmon, herbed crème fraiche, seasonal fruit and a plum tomato salad. Pain Perdu is sweet, but not too sweat, moist and smooth like a marshmallow of brioche, cream, eggs and sugar.
Just make sure when you arrive on Sunday to ask if they are serving food off the Brunch Menu yet. If not, take a small stroll or grab a coffee and wait.

Le café Charlot c’est The place to be dans le Marais.
Tout le monde connait ce petit bistrot parisien, situé dans une rue passante, au coeur des belles boutiques du Marais. Parfait pour une pause déjeuner. De très bons plats (j’ai pris le burger évidemment!) qui donnent vraiment envie d’essayer toute la carte.
Les serveurs vous accueillent agréablement, le bistrot est vraiment très chouette et bien décoré.
Evidemment, venant du sud de la France, je précise que les prix sont quand même plus élevés que chez par chez nous.
Bonus: Il faut savoir qu’on y croise régulièrement des têtes connues, comme des acteurs de film, de série télé, des gens du web tels que des bloggeurs ou bloggeuses influent (e)s et d’autres people en tout genre !

Besoin de wifi et d’un endroit ou me pauser pendant 1 heure en attendant un rdv, la rue bien que garnie en estaminets et autres auberges, me laisse errant un certain temps.
Je fini par entrer dans cet agréable endroit, trouver une agréable table, un agréable wifi gratuit (qui fonctionne !) et un agréable serveur vient prendre ma commande: un agréable cocktail en happy hour accompagné d’une d’agréables dose de cacahuètes et olives, agréables au palais de surcroit.
l’heure s’est agréablement écoulée, accompagné d’une agréable musique et d’une ambiance entre feutrée et bistrotière tout aussi … agréable !
J’y retournerai, agréablement, sans tarder !

Le genre d’endroit où on va pour l’ambiance, le cadre, la terrasse; pas franchement pour la bouffe.
Ce n’est pas mauvais mais ça on né se régale pas. On mange, des choses un peu lourdes, réalisées de manière un peu lourde. Et on y est pourtant bien.

Contexte: nous sommes dimanche, il est 15h30, je n’ai rien avalé depuis la veille au soir, à part un kiwi. Je me suis couchée très tard, peu dormi, ai enfilé les premiers vêtements trouvés, zappé la case maquillage/​coiffage (ou disons, le minimum). Je suis donc: affamée, mal sapée, et cernée.
*Malheur, je n’avais pas anticipé que ce quartier était AUSSI …“parisien”. Je né m’étendrai pas, les commentaires précédents sont tout à fait explicites. Mais vous imaginez donc que je marchais la tête cachée dans mon foulard.
*J’ai opté pour le brunch, que je matais depuis 10min cz mes voisins de comptoir (oui, c’était blindé bien sûr, donc nous avons attendu au bar… pour finir par y manger!) et bien moi qui né suis pas une habituée des brunchs (bouh, la honte), j’ai adoré.
*Ca paraissait plutôt léger et girly, je n’ai pas pu finir (et dieu sait que ça m’arrive peu souvent!), il comprenait des choses qui n’ont pu que me plaire de type coupelle de fruits rouges, oeufs brouillés au saumon, fromage blanc aux herbes. L’homme et la gourmande se régaleront du pain perdu.
Bref, moi j’ai bien aimé ! Mais peut-​être parce que je venais avant tout pour la nourriture.

Cool-​charmantes Bistro-​Café. Schönes Interieur, Sitzplätze drinnen, draußen und dazwischen. Wuselige, kurz angebundene Kellner, die alles im Griff haben, jedoch keine Zeit für ein Lächeln. Störte uns hier jedoch nicht. Speisen und Getränke köstlich.

Le Café Charlot est l’une des bonnes adresses du quartier ultra branché de la rue de Bretagne ! La déco est assez réussie bien que je commence à saturer de cette mode rétro vieux bistrot Parisien ! Passons… le volume est assez spacieux et nous né sommes pas trop les uns sur les autres, grâce notamment à la luminosité (très grandes baies vitrés) qui agrandît vraiment l’espace.
Le plus de ce restau café est sa terrasse. Les jours d’été, elle est idéalement exposée et il fait bon y prendre des bains de soleil entre amis.
La carte est assez banale mais on y mange bien. Le cheese délicieux est à 15 € (les prix du quartier) et les plats entre 14 et 24 €.
J’aime y prendre mon café le matin, y déjeuner et même y bruncher le dimanche (vraiment copieux)… en gros j’aime y passer tout mon temps !

Joli endroit. Le café-​restaurant a investi les anciens murs d’une boulangerie. Ainsi la façade est charmante, et en été, la terrasse surtout. (regardez la photo)

J’y ai dîné deux fois. C’était bon, sans faute de goût.
Rien d’extraordinaire mais juste comme il faut. L’avantage c’est que la carte est évolutive et change donc régulièrement.
Et ils veillent à bien avoir des plats différents à l’ardoise chaque jour.
Le bacon cheeseburger que l’on m’a servi était très bien.
Il paraît (avis de copines du quartier) que son brunch est très bien.
